I love the fact that the Atlanta Hawks are now a part of the overall narrative of the Association.

Slightly annoyed it's mainly through the lens of the ongoing(?) Luka vs Trae debate. But we're at least on people's radar outside the Peach State.

^Yeah, it's insane to even consider that much money for Brown. I'd dangle a 4 year/$82 million deal out there for him...and even that seems too high.

It's likely time for Danny-boy to start creating trade packages centered around Brown.

(NOTE: It's really interesting to watch play out as we are similarly forced to make decisions about our core of young players.)

Chances Celtics, Jaylen Brown reach contract extension reportedly “pretty slim”

Image

The bill is coming due in Boston.

For years Boston was the team with promising young players and a treasure chest of draft picks. Now, the bill is starting to come due on the picks they kept.

Starting with a potential rookie contract extension for Jaylen Brown, there are a few key reasons an extension is unlikely.

First, Boston with Danny Ainge has not been a team that agrees to a lot of extensions of rookie contracts. Second, Boston is a capped out team the next couple of years. For example, they are $13 million below the tax line this season, and next season they will be flirting with it again. Finally, there is the biggest obstacle: What is the salary figure for a Brown contract extension? The two sides are not going to see eye to eye on that.

The Celtics are not going to give Brown a five-year, $168 million max extension, which is what Ben Simmons in Philadelphia and Jamal Murray in Denver got. The only other rookie extension agreed to so far this summer is Caris LeVert with the Nets for $52 million over three years, or $17.3 million a year average.

Boston may be open to re-signing Brown at a LeVert number, around $17 million or $18 million a year, but Brown certainly thinks he’s worth north of $20 million.

Agree with all but the blue font. We have tons of proof that Dan E. strAinge holds onto assets too long. We don't know if Schlenk has that problem yet so no need to fret.

I feel like I've said this before ... somewhere.

Nah. I'm not fretting at all. It's fascinating to see what deals get made when it comes specifically to salary cap management.

Schlenk already passed this test when he jettisoned Taurean and cap space in exchange for multiple first round picks.

That is asset management at its best.

This can't be said enough. Plus Boston players with the ESPN machine always get more hype than deserved.

Brown is getting bad advice but regardless will receive 20m+. Danny will be forced to trade him and hopefully he has the Boston fans support because Brown wants an ungodly amount.

True but you can’t doubt his skill level coming into the draft. He’s got the physically tools he’s just a moron apparently.

In this day and age, physical tools don't mean as much though. Especially when, as jayb put it, many of these dudes have 10-cent head-itis.

Pretty sure it was me.

It's even more damning when you realize G League training camp doesn't open for another month...meaning he's basically sitting around for the next few weeks instead of being around this young, rebuilding teams.

He's ruined his reputation with terrible decision making and his career is very likely approaching its end...what a waste.

According to Brian Scalabrine, the Celtics invited him to workout for them. He accepted but never showed up. He was not removed from their board at that point, which is what I'm saying.

They then scheduled a visit to fly out and meet with him on the west coast. He ghosted them again, after they flew all the way to see him. That's when they decided not to draft him.

So, no, Dan E. did not pass over him after he spurned their workout. He passed on him after the ghosted meeting.

Come on now, we all knew that was just a smokescreen by Cool Hand Danny. Him and Boston media would never be the type to catcall, get ignored, then say "you ugly anyway".

Russell Westbrook calls James Harden pairing 'scary' for rest of NBA

"It's going to be scary, that's all I can tell you," Westbrook said during Houston Rockets media day Friday. "It's going to be scary -- not for us."
