Re: 2020-21 Season: Draft, Trades, and FA Ideas Thread V2
Fantasy offseason that I don't think is impossible and could contend for the chip.
1. Win the lottery, draft Cade. Draft Bassey in 2nd.
2. Sign Lowry to 50M/2Y
3. Sign and trade Gary Trent Jr at 13M/y for 4 years and a guaranteed Boucher (7M) + lottery protected 2023 1st
for sign and traded Jarrett Allen at 25M per year to start with max raises for 5 years
4. Guarantee Bembry, Watson, Yuta, Harris, Gillespie
5. Sign Gorgui Dieng for vet min (or Biyombo) - a big body to guard Embiid
Still under the tax apron even with Kyle's contract.
I don't see why Cleveland would want Gary Trent Jr but maybe Jarrett Allen has no loyalty to Cleveland and pushes his way out. Maybe Cleveland doesn't want to pay him that much.
Allen/Dieng/Gillespie/Bassey
Pascal/Yuta
OG/Watson/2nd rounder
Kyle/Bembry/Harris
Cade/FVV/Flynn
Fred comes in for Allen for crunch time lineups.

Why not just offer Jarrett Allen the max (like Tobias Harris got for switching teams) and see if Cleveland lets him walk? Would you rather max Allen or give John Collins $25 million?

Re: 2020-21 Season: Draft, Trades, and FA Ideas Thread V2
George Springer was being discussed on the draft thread, and I looked up the Tankathon mock to see his ranking. They had him going to the Lakers at #20.
I just had a flash of insight - Lowry's going to the Lakers in a sign and trade for around $15-20 mill. We'll get their pick back, plus KCP and maybe Gasol guaranteed. Everyone will revel in Masai's genius, especially after he drafts Springer in addition to our top four pick in late July. Summer league will be lit, and the Raptors will be set for another 5-7 seasons.
That's my Wanda-esque fantasy, and I'm gonna live in it.

To do a sign and trade we need to stay under the tax apron after the deal is done.
I think we can get really close to the max and still be under the tax apron while still giving Kyle 25M.
However we would need to give a bit more salary going back to cleveland, maybe by signing GTJ to a larger contract or including another player.

He makes a ton of sense if Lowry gets signed and traded (maybe to Miami for him) or leaves if we believe he can get healthy and be our starting 2 guard. Maybe we give him like 70/3 and the 3rd year is a team option? First year is the real contract, 2nd year worst case he's still an expiring and then 3rd year up to us.
I read this and instantly hated it
But the more I thought about it I don't mind the concept.
If we are able to use the cap space to sign someone who really does address an immediate need and appears to fit with whatever we seem to want to do then I would consider letting Lowry walk and sign where his heart leads him.
However, if we can't use our cap space for anything significant converting Lowry into Oladipo on a 2 + 1 (Assuming he would agree to that) and keeping our MLE is not the worst thing and to your point you have a potentially useful expiring the second season assuming he looks like Miami Oladipo and not Houston Oladipo.
There are worse ways to walk out of the summer;
The question I would have is where do you play him? Does this move Trent to the bench? Is Dipo coming off the bench (and does he want to?
But then you have some logistical challenges;
What does Dipo get this summer after a second fairly major surgery and do you want to pay Dipo enough that he works in an S&T?

Allen's max is 28M. Looks like we can offer Allen the max if we offer Kyle 24M and sign and trade GTJ at 14M and include both Boucher and Gillespie. We would be right at the tax apron and hard capped.

Otto Porter will be a free agent.
Plus Orlando got 2 picks and Wendel Carter for vucivic.
You suggesting pascal is just worth 1? Arent you selling pascal a little short?
I thought Porter Jr. had an option for one more year... One lotto pick and OPjr. Seems fair when you look at the money commitments. Yes M+B will never deal Paskal but how on earth did Orlando just gift us Birch? We have to owe them something. Birch for nothing? Might as well call it Birch, Porter Jr and 8th pick for Siakam. Bad deal? On paper?

he had a player option last year which obviously he picked up. they did birch a solid, they did jeff teague a solid as well released him after getting him from boston. they were giving thier young players playing time. they offerd to release ottto porter as well but he chose to stay/was injured anyways.

spending 25 mil on a center whos not named Jokic, Towns, Davis, Embiid or Gobert is a dumb move

I’m hoping Cleveland has this rigid type of thinking too and allows one of the best RFAs on the market to walk at aged 23. He would be a great fit for Toronto’s core and even though he doesn’t have the 3pt shot or passing ability yet that we want ideally in a C, I think he has the work ethic and BBIQ to develop those aspects of his game.
Those other guys are all making closer to 40M or at least will be in their next contract for Jokic, Towns and Embiid. I would not want to have so much money invested in the C position. 25M for that next tier of C is great value.

Can you package players with a signed an traded guy?

I remember a rule about that but couldn’t find it anywhere. The Kemba Rozier was a double sign and trade. Were there other players involved?

The KD - Russell sign and trade included other players.

You're right. Russell was signed and traded with other guys, not just the other way being a package.
So yeah, maybe even a sign and trade of Lowry and Boucher for Harris will be on the table if they flame out in the playoffs? We could roll out VanVleet-OG-Harris-Siakam-Birch and use the #7 on a frontcourt player with Flynn and Trent leading the bench. That's a ton of size and skill on the wing, we could even maybe draft Scottie Barnes and play with 4 guys 6'8-6'9. Could be an interesting way to go.

How would you guys feel about Kemba for Siakam? Obviously picks would be involved in some way, but I’m just curious how Raps fans feel about it, especially if Lowry bounces this summer

fvv and kemba, too small a backcourt.

Yeah it seems like entirely a question for the medical staff of the Raptors, Knicks, Dallas and maybe even OKC if they liked him there before trading him for Paul George and think they can do another Chris Paul rehabilitation (with Horford too maybe since if they start the season strong with SGA-Oladipo-Cade-Dort-Horford they can probably get value for him too) and don't draft Green or Suggs.
Yeah, I think Trent is a 6th man at this point and that we got him presuming that by age 24 or 25 he'll be a starter since he improved a ton from 20 to 22 so he can do the same and become a good defender and a more consistent scorer, which seems logical enough.
If we somehow get Mobley, someone like Oladipo makes sense timeline wise. Any other pick, not really since they're guards and Cade would mean we should focus on the center position with the cap space/Lowry money.

Considering we could probably trade Pascal for Wiseman and the Minnesota pick (top 6), that Orl deal sounds horrible for us. Porter Jr is at best a bench sf with an injury history and the 8th pick isn’t a guaranteed allstar. Pascal is a 27 year old all star level pf

Kemba is a bad contract for the Celtics, a walking injury risk (just as IT was/is). Siakam is our best player (although he's had an up and down last year through the lockdown and Covid).
So ... no. Hell no.
