This doesn't look like a guy satisfied until the entire job is done.

Smart has very similar numbers as Lowry during their title run while shooting much better than Jru in theirs. Apart from being the defensive quarterback of the stingiest defense in the league.

The only knock on him at this point may be his turnovers. But as the 3rd guy and starting (non-traditional) PG, he's come up huge for the Cs in this postseason.

All the while calling out switches and coverage. Bigs either have to do a better job pre-switching so they aren't brought up to the screens above the break or meet Curry/Klay higher when they are. Dropping on Curry PnRs whether intentional or not has been a disaster.

I've basically spammed this thread with Smart praise. What's one more? Pina kills with this article.

Among the 2014 draft class, Smart is first in
playoff appearances (8)
playoff games (88)
playoff minutes (2893)
playoff three point field goals made (164)
playoff assists (423)
playoff steals (119)

Oh yeah and he's also second in points behind Jokic and in front of Embiid. Let that sink in for a minute

Wasted effort by Forsberg with this article as it will fall on deaf ears.

There's a case to be made that Smart is getting more heat than JT for the Cs not winning the Finals.

Sure. I Agree with that.
Smart is the DPOY; the most tenured member of the C's; and the Heart & Soul of the team.

Those are kind of meaningless stats if they are not put in context that Smart was fortunate to have a bunch of good to very good teammates while other players haven't had that same luxury.

Smart in playoffs.
32.9 mpg
12.3 ppg
4.8 apg
1.4 steal
4.4 rebounds
.511 TS%

Good NBA player who IMO deserved to take over the starting PG duties years ago... At this point, Smart's defense is overrated but his offense is underrated by more than a few people.

I like Smart and even said the Celtics should pick him at 6 before that draft on this forum but in a redraft he would probably deserve to go around the same spot(6). He probably ended up with the best teammates of the good players in his draft class thanks to various factors including the Nets trade adding JT/JB and signing of Al Horford and the Celtics trading for IT*. And playing in EC helped since several years in western conference, Celtics lose earlier in playoffs.

* not a fan of IT the player with how Celtics overused him since players like him don't usually win championships in modern NBA but without question he helped them make the playoffs his first few years. Crowder and even KO deserve credit/blame since those 2 for inexpensive players helped the Celtics get in position to make the playoffs.

Some mediocre players probably have better playoff counting stats than Kevin Garnett after X seasons in KG's career simply because he got drafted by a lousy team that did a poor job of adding talent.

Yeah I'm just messing around. I'm not seriously suggesting that Smart is the best player of his draft class. However considering his playoff production far outpaces anybody that's not Embiid/Jokic and that those two are the only other players still on the team that drafted them, I don't think it's crazy to say that he's been the third most valuable guy for his initial franchise out of the 2014 draft. (That's a different question than whether he is the third best player overall in his draft class which is probably a bit generous.)

I think the Celtics should trade Marcus Smart for Chris Gasper, the Boston Globe columnist who writes three columns a year urging the Celtics to trade Smart.

Why? Because he got shredded by Curry? Who doesn’t?

Gobert literally had game plans made to target him in the post season when he was winning DPOY.

Random stat I found interesting: Marcus Smart is the franchise leader in both steals (282) and assists (883) as a reserve.
