Obviously I'm hoping for the #1 pick, but I think 1-4 is the first tier with pretty similar talent and upside (Smith, Paolo, Chet, Sharpe). We have a 52% chance of picking in that first tier. The second tier is murkier but I like Ivey the best of the bunch. I'm just hoping we don't drop to 6 or 7 and potentially miss out on all those guys I mentioned.

I would be pretty satisfied with any of the bigs or taking the gamble on Sharpe. Those 4 are all pretty equal for me right now. If i had to choose i would probably big board them like this.

Chet
Jabari
Banchero
Sharpe

Ivey
Murray

I’d be excited about getting 1 Guard and 1 Forward out of this list:

1. Shaedon
1B. Chet
2. Jabari
3. Dyson
4. Eason
5. Ivey
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Wow, Eason literally shoots from his chest!

I can imagine it makes for a quick release, but I think he'll have to change that at the next level.

The more I think about Sharpe the more I think people will be surprised where he gets picked. I’d love to have him on the roster and my opinion hasn’t changed, but imo GM’s will be weary taking him since they haven’t seen him against competition outside of high school ball. Many players feast against their opponents in high school and unless he’s willing to participate in things like the combine and most workouts (which I believe his agent will tell him not to), there’s not much for GM’s to assess how he has developed and how his athleticism/skills will translate against higher skilled and more athletic players.

If your team is in the top 5-7 and you desperately want skilled guys, how many GM’s would be willing to take a punt on player with a resume as small as Sharpes? He’s a lottery pick for sure and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him taken in the first 6 picks but I’m starting to think somewhere in the 7-10 range.

Depends on who has the top 6 picks though

Of the teams in the top 6 atm we are THE team with a obvious need for him.

If he ends up being the consensus 4 or 5 pick with buzz going into the draft you could also get fired for passing on him. Say you are a puss and tell the owner you dont want to risk it and want to play it safe with Mathurin. Well if Sharpe is looking like Mcgrady and Mathurin is KCP(yes ive seen this as a comp by a scout) thats going to be your job.

Of course so many variables at play on this. Some teams the GM is just a role and the owner is the one making the big decisions like this everytime. Some teams the GM is a long term guy who has power and is always going to take the big talent. Their will of course be owners who are completely out on a high school tape only guy, I mean MJ scooped Kaminsky you know hes not drafting Sharpe lol.

Looks good to me. Personally for me its a 5 man draft.

1.Jabari
2.Chet

3.Paolo
4.Sharpe

5.Ivey

Paolo I think is a notch below the other bigs because of defense but its close. Sharpe its obv just the no game tape thing keeping him down a notch. I still think Ivey has alot of upside but also alot of ways to bust.

I feel like Murray your hoping for another Grant. I guess thats a good pick at like 5 or 6 but I want someone with that star upside and i question his lateral quickness vs nba athletes to really be special. That said I dont see how hes not at least like a solid starter with his skillset and IQ.

We definitely have a need for him IF everything translates from his HS footage.

I want Chet first then Smith followed by Sharpe as a strong 3rd. I’m all about swing for the fences picks though with zero ramifications personally if Sharpe doesn’t pan out.

I think it would look worse going for player x with half a resume and busting than picking a player who becomes a good starter and not selecting player x who goes on to become an all-star. There’s many guys in the top 10 range who have the potential to become fringe all-stars and very productive players at the very least. As far as I know a GM has never been fired primarily for a draft selection (which I guess kinda works for both our points) but there’s definitely an incentive to put the most productive product on the floor as soon as possible unless you are bottom 5 and most likely tanking.

The multiple variables definitely make it difficult to predict who would be willing to make a ballsy play and how wouldn’t. I’m still hoping Sharpe falls and we somehow manage to swing a trade to select him as well as one of Chet or Smith lol

Haha yeah the dream get 2 of the top guys =).

We will see what happens with Sharpe. I feel like if he falls out of the top 5 hes the type of player smart basketball teams will be looking to move up to get.

To your point James Edwards seem to think we would be taking Murray at 4 so maybe we are one of those teams that wont be interested in the gamble like you were saying. I hope not time will tell.

When you need a second ball handler and a lob threat, seems like the one guy that could be both is a good pick.

As far as I can tell, Sharpe has only played 12 high school basketball games.

2020 canceled due to covid.
2021 12 games, likely shortened due to covid.
2022 he graduated early and left school instead of playing a senior year of HS basketball.

Does anyone know if this is correct? Technically 12 games as what would have been a junior year in HS.

So does every single NBA bust ever. They were all studs in high school.

Yea really that was his junior year. But it was his 12 games with his AAU team in the EYBL that summer that made him #1.

Watching Sharpe’s AAU games against guys like Jalen Duren is actually a little disappointing.

He looks like he can shoot and has the step backs and pull ups and can definitely jump out the gym, but he’s actually kinda slow. Not much of a first step, plays at his own pace like Cade which is good, but not quick or athletic.

He can sky off of two feet when he’s in the dunker’s spot, but he doesn’t get the same lift when he drives to the hoop off of two feet.

His jump shot is pretty sweet though. I’d take him top 5. I’m on the fence though with him and Ivey. The fit with Cade would probably be better with Sharpe with his jump shot though.

Sharpe has that Harden jump shot package while Ivey has the Ja Driving to the hoop game.

He’s not lightning quick like Ivey, but he does shoot the ball better.
