Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Ortiz was eating hooks in that 2nd round, it was only a matter of time before he ran into trouble and he did in the final seconds of the round. Nice win for Collazo but you just have to wonder how good Ortiz really is anymore, he looks like damaged goods.

Berto is responsible for helping guys land bigger fights. Ortiz, Guerrero and Soto-Karass can all attest to that.
Ortiz could never dig deep enough to become a world class fighter. Some guys are just built tougher than others. Ortiz wasn't built that way. I can't bash him for that though. You have to be one hardened tough SOB in order to fight for a living.

An underwhelming matchup to be quite honest. Lee isn't a bad fighter or anything but I don't see him lasting 4 rounds with GGG.

He's going to keep fighting these type of fighters until the top dogs at 160 decide to face him. It's hard to build your resume with quality wins when you're constantly avoided.

Well there really isn't anyone out there at 160... Did we honestly expect someone like Sturm of Quillin(GBP fighter) who have a titles now to fight him? There isn't anyone who I really think that is on his level.
He has to go up to 168 and fight some of the names there... maybe Froch or Chavez and if Ward ever get his **** together him...

He has a better chance of fighting the winner of Cotto-Martinez than Sturm.

Geale and Murray would be a step up in competition, and would be quality names to add to his resume. They may not be on his level, but at least they're both considered top 10 middle weights.
Quillin was never a realistic possibility because both are with different networks. Fact of the matter is that Martinez is the one fighter that would cement his status as a legit top 10 PFP fighter. So I don't blame him for staying at 160 and chasing that fight. He has too much to gain from it because it would prove that he's the best middle weight on the planet. Hopefully, DiBella allows Martinez to fight GGG if he looks good against Cotto. It would be a great payday for both. GGG's brand keeps on growing, and an event at MSG or Vegas would draw a lot of interest and excitement. Assuming he beats Martinez, then he should consider moving up to 168 to fight the likes of Ward and Froch. Until then, he should just keep laying the smack down on whomever they put in front of him.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
I think the buzz is beginning to build for a Sergio/GGG fight. There is just going to be too much interest in that fight for it to be put off. And to be honest, unless Canelo Alvarez decides to move up there just isn't a bigger money fight for Sergio at 160. And since Canelo fights for Golden Boy its more likely that he'd face Quillin if he were to move up. Unless Sergio gets loses to Cotto, their fight is so good that it demands an immediate rematch or Sergio gets hurt there is no way a fight with GGG isn't made by this time next year. We'll probably have to wait for Sergio to deal with an easy money mandatory with the winner of Rubio/Spada first but the fight is going to happen.
Its just a shame GGG is fighting Lee on April 26th. I was kinda hoping HBO would insist on putting GGG on the PPV undercard against someone like Geale to drum up interest in a possible fight with Sergio.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
It's super lousy that GGG is aging through his prime and not being challenged. The idea of him then facing (and destroying) a Sergio Martinez - who was largely left to do the same until past his prime - is only more tragic-ironic.
Next to PBF, there's been no one more stylish to watch in the ring over the past 10 years than Sergio. And we saw him largely waste his time. Now he's fed to GGG, 3+ years past his peak? Efffffffffffffff.
Big time credit to the guys who have faced Golovkin. Macklin, Rosado, Stevens...these were dudes not intimidated.

He killed Max Kellerman's brother.
He was also allowed to box again after he got out of prison. Whoever gave him a license should have been banned for life.

I'm excited about this fight but I'm torn. Both guys rank amongst my favorite fighters.

Good for Maidana.... and Khan can cry like a little bitch....
Mayweather schools him...
"I am extremely happy to be facing Floyd Mayweather because it will give me the opportunity to show the world that I am the best welterweight in the division," said Maidana, who will represent throngs of Hispanic boxing fans on Cinco de Mayo when he faces the pound-for-pound king. "I just handed a great defensive fighter his first loss and I plan to do the same to Mayweather. I don't care whether he's the best and undefeated. I will bring some real Latino power to him on May 3rd."
"This is an extremely dangerous fight for Floyd as Marcos Maidana is a technical knock-out artist and continues to show us that he gets better with each fight," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "Maidana showed so much in his last performance, he's clearly at the top of his game and a great match-up for Floyd."
"In Marcos Maidana, Floyd Mayweather may be in for his toughest opponent ever," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Maidana is the type of fighter who will find out if Floyd still belongs on top of the pound-for-pound list. He's strong, tough and aggressive. He in giving Adrien Broner his first loss, he showed that he won't be intimidated by talk, a big fight atmosphere or an unbeaten record. I give Floyd a lot of credit for stepping up to the plate and testing himself once again. He is a true warrior, and the fans will be the winners on May 3rd."
"The first two events in our partnership with Floyd Mayweather were incredible and SHOWTIME PPV is proud to present the next chapter in Floyd's remarkable career," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports®. "Marcos Maidana is a boxer whose fearsome power can change the trajectory of a fight with a single punch. Couple that with his ferocity and perseverance and you have the recipe for an incredible fight on the grandest stage of the sport."

I agree. If Mayweather was limiting himself to 147lbers Maidana is probably the best available choice in terms of accomplishments, availability, credibility amongst fans and danger. And oh man I just loved it when Khan tweeted that he should have taken the fight with Alexander. Serves the loudmouth right. He needed to earn his shot at Floyd. But no, he ducked Alexander to maintain his status as an option for Floyd and for what. He sat on his butt for months, turned down a title fight and watched the guy he was supposed to fight lose his belt AND no Floyd. Serves him right. Time to start fighting real 147 pounders Khan.

With that being said I wouldn't mind seeing Amir Khan vs. Adrien Broner on the undercard. With Mayweather vs. Maidana now confirmed both guys are looking for a dance partner and a big payday. It makes sense to match them up.

It is a great fight but both fighters have too much to lose and is a main event level fight in itself.
