Anyone said Ilyasova yet? Not sure if it's the 2013-2014 or 2011-2013 version.

Re: Doug McDermott
He's the same size as Klay Thompson and Kyle Korver. If he can play the off the ball cutting game for open looks, I can see where this could be valuable at the pro level.
Him being a coaches son is a huge plus for me.
Still don't see him being a star or anything like that. Think he's ranked a slight bit higher than he should.

Oh, didn't you hear? He has such a high IQ and is "crafty". NBA level athletes will be no match for him.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Re: Doug McDermott
i doubt doug will face matchup amoeba zones specifically designed to stop him in the nba. if he does then that means he's really good.

Re: Doug McDermott
They won't play a zone against him. Any decent starting NBA SF won't let Doug get a shot off. In the NBA, there is something called a 24 second shot clock. There isn't time to spend running double screens every possession to get a role player an open shot.

his release will be just as quick as it was in college. and double screens aren't the only way doug got free. he had the freedom to move wherever he wanted to according to how the defense was playing him. often times it wasn't strictly by design and he made his own reads.
also, most good teams have floppy sets and they're not only designed to get the shooter a shot because there are so many options that can come off it. the benefit of floppy sets is that it takes multiple defenders and coordination to properly defend, just like PnR. screener defenders have to step out and bump the shooter. for example, single double action can turn into side PnR/PnP, corner fades or the curler can dive straight down the lane.

Re: Doug McDermott
I remember all this same nonsense being said about Luke Jackson and Jason Kapono when they were in college too. Then their NBA coach sees they can't get a shot off against anybody in practice, and they either glue the guy to the bench, or they sit him in the corner for 15 minutes a game for "spot up" 3's.
Hopefully he goes to Chicago so you can be happy, and he can be hidden defensively behind Butler, Noah and Taj Gibson.

no, not really. neither were the caliber player that doug is. we're talking about a historically prolific college player here. neither of those guys were used in the same manner/volume.
i doubt chicago will be in a position to draft him and i would prefer not to trade up for him.

Oh you mean Tyler Hansborough and Adam Morrison? Sprinkle in some Reggie Williams.

no, morrison maybe, but i've already went over why doug has a more translatable game.

Why does he translate better than Reggie?

Why does he translate better than Reggie?
because he's not ball-dominant and not an iso player who played in a gimmicky, paul westhead-ian run and gun offensive system. he already has the game and arsenal of an off-the-ball scorer/ shooter which meshes much better playing next to stars and in highly structured systems. if a player is a high volume, dribble heavy player in college, he better have the physical talent for some of that to transfer otherwise he becomes an un-economical, bad shot taker who handles the ball more than he should and screws up the rhythm of an offense.

Re: Doug McDermott
Oh. So he will be a spot up shooter, who can't create his own shot? Seems like that type player should be available when the Bulls pick.

no. he'll be a spot up shooter who can also be used in flex action, PnR, PnP, floppy sets with some mid post game if he goes to the right team that recognizes how he can be used.

Sounds like a 2nd round pick

That's closer to where he should be drafted, but some fool will take him in the lottery to sell tickets for half a season.
Such excitement to draft a player that you will have to surround with BETTER players to make him the least bit effective. At the same time, the coach will have to be an offensive mastermind to get him open enough to get shots off.

Re: Doug McDermott
He's grown on me this season. Won't be surprised if he makes an all-star game or two
