His might seriously limit him though. We've seen CP play with hamstring injuries in the playoffs and it usually isn't very pretty. Surprised he put out the performance that he did in Game 7 all things considered.

Congrats to curry! Well deserved and nice to see harden finish a close 2nd as expected. Paul really being underrated by the average voter, though.

Curry - 1198 PTS
Harden - 936 PTS
James - 552 PTS
Westbrook - 352 PTS
AD - 203 PTS
Paul - 124 PTS

Picks by each voter - http://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content ... esults.pdf

I'm typically not as high on Paul as everyone else, but I thought he clearly had the 3rd best season. Those other guys all missed significant games. And Paul was terrific this year.

It's an incredibly small sample size though....48 minutes. Also, in the playoffs the best players are going to play close to 35-40 minutes unless it's a blowout. Moreover, the remaining teams in the playoffs don't really have good benches. I think they will be fine.

His was massive in the RS as well though. Sample size doesn't mean it isn't an issue. I think it's a legit concern, they've been playing horribly all season without him, and that's against a lot of non playoff teams.

Right, but my main point was that them going up the Gizzlies, Clippers or Rockets (teams with weak benches) isn't going to 'expose' their own bench that much. Plus at some point I do expect their bench to start playing well and take advantage of the weak benches of their opponents. I mean I would hardly be concerned going up against the Clips or Rox bench in the next round lol.

Edit: Not that Curry doesn't have a massive on/off impact the Warriors bench is actually pretty good. I wonder how much of his on/off numbers are impacted by the Warriors bench scrubs (not the actual bench) playing against the bench scrubs of the other team in all those blowouts they had. Curry is obviously going to have a good on/off whenever the bench if playing but I suspect it's not a concern when it's their actual bench on the floor vs. the other team's bench.

Gross game by Harden, Harden vs Curry/CP is starting to feel DRob vs Hakeem-ish to me. Harden is less skilled than them in ways that shows up in playoff series

24-13-8 on average efficiency with vastly improved defense. This is pretty unexpected. I don't know where this passing came from, he's looking like a super Garnett-Pippen combo on offense.

I don't know what to do, he wasn't near my RS top 5, but depending how deep they go and how good he is, you have to consider him.

I had Harden out of my top5 since before the playoffs started. Hes mostly the same player he was last season w/ more effort on D. He had a nice campaign in the regular season but hes an extremely flawed player

Steph, Cp3, Davis, Lebron and Westbrook are def better. Cousins has a case as well IMO
Harden turned the ball over on 45% of his possessions against Clips. Hes lucky Houston played the worst perimeter defense in the 1st round that was very dysfunctional and prolly the worst playoff team (maybe even over Bucks and Nets) post Rondo trade, or he wouldve gotten exposed there again. Its gonna be a brutal series for him

Wow, it felt like it watching but just pulled up the box score...

9 TOs and a 22 negative plus/minus.

For a moment I thought you were ardee because of the avi and all :).

But yes, if Griffin keeps this up he will deserve serious top 5 consideration. He's been amazing so far in the playoffs.

I couldn't help but notice after all the conversations I've had lately related to Paul's terrible supporting cast, that the Clippers didn't resemble helpless kittens much at all tonight.

Not saying Paul is anything but outstanding, but I think people have a tendency to really exaggerate the weakness of NBA supporting casts.

I see what you mean, but this game to me wasn't even so much about the Clippers as Houston. Harden was awful, they have no PG, Josh Smith continues to be himself, and the only guys who showed up were Dwight and Ariza. They're still not a great defensive team (at least they don't play that way all the time as they had issues w/ Dallas too), and if they're not shooting well they're toast. I think people just really overestimated them more than anything. Though it still took well above average games from RIvers, Crawford, and Barnes. This was just a weird game.

Maybe it's more the case that CP3 and Blake Griffin playing together somehow limits each others games, sort of like Westbrook and Durant together, as Griffin is more restricted in using his considerable playmaking and passing skills with Paul on the court. We've seen how the Clippers hummed along almost as well with either Griffin gone ('15) or Paul gone ('14).

On a side note, if this is the fully unleashed, 'complete game' Blake Griffin we have talked about in the preseason, then every other playoff team (that may face the clippers) should be very, very afraid....

The top 4 Clippers players after Paul were never weak, it's what's after them that's pretty bad, and that shows more against deeper teams in longer runs, like the Spurs series, than it did in this one game.

In any case, there's quite a few factors that affected this one win before you make the conclusion that the supporting cast is or isn't as bad as advertised. The Clippers weren't playing well until midway through the 3rd anyway, and Houston's bad play after that point is not a usual thing either. Doc's gameplanning was really good, and he somehow always finds a way to slow down Harden. I know you're one of the biggest proponents here of Jordan as a not great defensive player, but whatever the numbers say, you at least have to acknowledge he can be very effective after a game like this. They usually just direct Harden to him and he's both scared and ineffective going at the rim against him.

There's also the factor already mentioned that Griffin's and Paul's games overlap a little, so when either of them is out, there's still enough playmaking and ball movement for every rotation player to be engaged on offense and motivated to play some defense. Running the offense through Blake has proven to be very effective, specially when both Redick and Crawford can also take some of the ball-handling and creating duties.

TL;DR- I don't think this one game should affect Paul's evaluation at all.
