Lower cap space actually helps us get Hayward. Celtics will have even less money to give to Hayward.

This lowered cap should also temper all the wild spending that some of these teams were doing.

Re: Miami HEAT Offseason/Trades/FA Thread: Sardine Central
2nd half of the season happened for many reasons, guys were healthy, the schedule was kind of soft, injuries forced us to play our best lineups in the 2nd half. problem is, with the cap, we would be lucky to just keep the team we had last season.
it will certainly be interesting what pat has in mind. Paying hayward 30mil is a 2 steps forward 1 step back kind of idea.
if we did bring everyone back, i do think we would fall off a little from our 2nd half pace. at this point, that is what looks most likely.
the tj situation will be interesting, when the did that one time bosh thing with the new cba, they should have also went back and changed tj deal to spread out evenly 12.5m/year, totally unfair and illogical to penalize a team for keeping their talent. love tj, and really don't want to trade him unless we know it will lead to an upgrade.

Stephen A just said LaMarcus Aldridge wants out of San Antonio in a bad way. He feels he was used in the wrong way by coaches.

I agree that the poison pill on the early bird needed addressing, but it's there to protect the players from exploiting teams. It means making a commit for a player, forcing the hand, and so it is actually working the way it is supposed to do.
TJ's poison pill contract can only be renegotiated in its last year and only for a larger value (not larger per year, larger total.) Another team trying to acquire him would spread his cap hit over 3 years (4 now, but TJ can cancel any trade at the moment.)
Realistically, the other team would be looking at $44,372,000 over 3 years: $14,790,667 cap hit.
Instead, our cap hits are going to be:
2017-2018: $5,881,260
2018-2019: $18,858,765
We'll have $19,631,975 outstanding. We could sign him to 4/50 in June 2019 again like this:
$11,627,907
$12,209,302
$12,790,697
$13,372,094
We can't do anything else before June 2019, however. It's against the CBA.

I would love to have him on the squad. Hopefully Riley planted that seed with the meeting two years ago.

If we can swing for both PG & LMA then we'd likely have enough cap space still to resign JJ. We'd need to have McBob, Ellington and TJ off the books to be able to afford it, but it would make an interesting team!

Best Net Rating team in the back half of the year last season
You are still so amazingly butthurt about Wade, it's time to get over it. The jury is out on that move....turns out the Heat were right, despite your crying
Best net rating in the back half of the season.Couldn't even beat 1 of 2 crap teams when it mattered to make the playoffs and ended up with pick 14.
fool yourself as long as you want but we are a nothing team and need blowing up. PG13 on a year rental would be fun. Maybe he'd stay after that and if not we have the space to create at least what we could this season. If we can get PG13 in any way then Riles should do it. Remember Shaq, Remember the big 3 - We don't need another middle of the road season.
Miami had the best record in the entire league last year the 2nd half of the season. Think it was a fluke look at their rating statistics, I bring them up because you can fake them.
Better than Golden State, better than Cleveland. Did we drop some tough ones without Dion towards the end? Sure
But whatever indicator you want to look at we were an elite team the 2nd half of the season. I reserve the right to call out posters who threw complete tantrums on these boards over what was shown to be a great personal move (not paying Wade)
And yet we blew a playoff position in the East.
You get as excited as you want about the team and go flog off in the corner if you want. I'll wait till we can beat the knicks in a game that matters.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

I would probably be interested in LMA if he was 27 not 31. He looked slow last year. If the Spurs are willing to trade him they know something.

Retaining the same team from last season + adding Sardinasova = 64-68 wins easily

Riles is in love with LA, curious to see how that plays out. Also curious as to whom SA see's in this draft that why want to move up. Probably some no name that will turn into an all star...

It's Fox or Jackson. It's going to hurt watching Isaac go to a dysfunctional perennial rebuild team like the Magic.

Does bringing on a 31 year old PF make sense for us at this time? We would have a very lumbering front court in a league going smaller and smaller.

After the Bosh ordeal, I can tell you with great certainty that we aren't touching Aldridge, as he has a history of heart related issues.

I couldnt see us bringing in PG, LA, AND JJ. I think (playing along) that if we got PG (or GH) and LA, that the move would be to try to bring back Waiters.
Dragic
Waiters
Hayward/PG
LA

Plus didnt LMA have a heart condition scare last year ? Even if he is ok and cleared by the NBA , I don't think Riley and the Heat will want to go through that again imho
