Quick question for the board: If Adam Silver asked Schlenk to choose...we know the ping pong balls are a front lol.
NBA gods/Adam Silver gives you (Hawks) a choice:
Scenario A:
Atlanta wins the 1st pick overall (Zion)
Dallas pick ends up at 12th overall or Dallas gets into the top 3 and the pick doesn’t convey this year.
Scenario B:
Atlanta own pick lands at 5.
Dallas pick lands at 6.

Even if the pick falls to 20-25 in 2020?

Hawks have a good history with the 19th pick

A...you take the 1st and 12. I'd be ok delaying the pick until 2020. Porzingas won't be back to full strength next year, if he plays on the QO of $4 mil, Dallas has a little FA money, if he signs extention less money. I don't trust Cubes FA signings.
If Harrison B opts out and leaves that's another spot to fill.

Here's the thing also, if you don't want the #1 pick (I'mnot advocating, just saying), you trade down a few spots and grab another high 1st in 2020.

No Zion for me...trade down!

5/6 is tempting...but I'd take #1 & #12...and trade up if necessary.

Man I have never seen this before.. This is not the usual really.. So used to having bad picks in the middle of the road, with a few exceptions, cough Marvin, cough..
But you guys are sounding awfully greedy right now. Feels good B )

I’ve thought about this same thing too, and I think I go with picking first. If we don’t want Zion, we can trade the pick and get who we want + maybe another pick, or if we love him then we get him. The Dallas pick is like a present, you want it as soon as you can get it, but waiting another year might not be the worst thing.

I agree with you on Barnes.
No Barnes, Jordan, Matthews, and lack the ability to sign free agents, Mavs will have no depth. Two stars and a bunch of scrubs won’t do it. Just look at KAT/Wiggins or AD/Holiday

Re: Mavs & Cavs Draft Pick Watch
A for sure. You need superstars to win rings and we already have 3 guys (Young, Collins & Huerter) who I feel are no-brainer starters and a couple others who could either be nice rotation players or even potential starters (esp Prince and Bembry) if they develop. Give me a high upside, low downside star in the making and I'll even take a non-lottery pick to go with it over two mid-lottery picks in a year where mid-lottery is considered muuuuch weaker than last year.

The full quote gives more context:
Hmmmm....Remember when I got fined $600,000 last year for saying I was doing anything other than trying to make the playoffs? Just think about it. We just traded away several guys and I immediately announced that our new acquisition would not be playing this season. What does that tell you? But we would never try to lose. We are certainly going to try to make the playoffs this year. I could care less about the draft pick. We're going to try and make a run for the playoffs. But if we have to shut down a couple guys along the way then that just can't be helped, can it?
Not real
