bortles was a #3 pick, was only good in his 4th season and also had his $20 mil option picked up
i think the risk is trubisky starting and having a good season next year
Trubusky will spend his 4th season on the bench as a backup. No QB with his problem of reading defense and inaccuracies will even turn it around. It's usually one or the other, not both glaring deficiencies at the same time.
Mariota can read the defenses and make good decisions. The problem with Mariota is poor O-line protection and inaccuracies. QBs can improve on their inaccuracies with time, just like Drew Brees from LA to NO.
Pace best bet is to shore up the O-line into elite status and beg Mariota for a one year trial. If Mariota does well here, he may be our long term option. I also think that Nagy and Mariota can potential be a great pair. But, Trubusky is done in Chicago.
Just be thankful that we didn't lock this bust to 30-38 mil/yr for the next 4-5 years. That will be crippling to our franchise.
