Re: [Lewenberg] Sources say Raptors intend to be buyers this deadline
A lot of hot takes here but come on guys we have the basketball legend/god Messiah Ujiri here, spend a lil more time appreciating the quality he brings & try to pay attention to how he moves and don't worry too much about wherever your thoughts wanna take you. Sure we can get Beal, Turner, Poeltl but Messiah's gonna evaluate a ton of options and weigh each teams desperation in making these moves, and the best part is that he's not going to make a move just to make a move, if we make a move it'll be for good value/fit and I'm just excited to see where his expertise takes us.
Sometimes here it's like a bunch of kids watching a surgery & trying to weigh in all the extra moves the surgeon should do. Trust the guys expertise & that he knows 1000x more about that area of life than you do, and enjoy seeing the master work. Don't be all hung up on some arguable 'bad' move when Messiah's proven himself by taking us from laughing stock to respectability to championship to a roster full of potential, I'm excited to see what he does..

He would be a 1 year rental at best and I am not sure even with him based on what we have to give up that we are guaranteed to even be in conference finals. Beal does not guarantee we are a contender. OG is averaging 17 ppg and Beal is averaging 21.1 ppg. We would lose significant defence so this 4 points per game would help but does not put us in contender status because Beal’s defence sucks. Im not sold on selling any valuable young asset like OG for a 1 year rental who is not a strong defensive player along with their O.
Don’t just think about the stats. It’s much more than that. Beal is one of the best shot creators in the league and a monster 4th quarter player. He would shine with us just like kawhi did

I don’t and that is why I am talking about defence , his defence is very weak. Losing OG and or GTJ would harm our defence. Its not just about points, Kawhi worked amazing because he had amazing defence. You went up against Giannis and what changed that series? It was nurse having Kawhi guard him. Once OG is gone who will guard the stars on opposing teams with height? Not Barnes for sure

I'm curious why we couldn't even take a shot at someone like him as a 3rd center.

What?!?!? He's an undrafted rookie, shooting 47% and over 40% from 3 and 100% FTs, in sporadic playing time. He also rebounds as well as Josh Hart as a swingman.

Re: [Lewenberg] Sources say Raptors intend to be buyers this deadline
The more I watch this team the more it looks like OG is the one who will eventually be moved. Having Siakam, OG and Barnes on the court at the same time effectively nuters at least one of the players since they all like to operate in the post. Right now this is leading to Barnes sitting on the perimeter playing a spot up 3 point shooter role which is essentially his biggest weakness. They really need to focus on the inside 2 man game between Siakam and Barnes.

I get what you're saying, but OG is by far the best shooter out of these three, while also being the best perimeter defender against opposing wings. It's tough because it does look like OG is the best piece to trade away if you had to pick one out of the three.

And from a contract perspective in 2 years OG at 25mil might be preferable to Pascal at 35.

OG being the best shooter, is a big one too...

I personally would offer OG for Turner, Duarte and their 1st top 10 protected. Need confirmation the foot isn’t serious of course. I wonder if Indy would. OG is an extremely valuable player on his current deal.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

OG can go back to being 3&D and stop post-up isos.

There's no way this team can continue with OG being their only reliable shooter. Of course getting a couple of other shooters is also required.
I would also rather trade Siakam if they can get great value back, but something tells me the Raptors are sticking with Siakam and FVV. I just don't see any superstars out there who are available for Siakam and the Raptors aren't giving him away for mediocre pieces.

There is zero chance Indiana does this. The Raptors probably need to be the team sending the 1st round pick back or the option to Indiana to swap picks. This is a trade I proposed earlier. It will significantly balance this team, and then you look at trading Boucher for a backup PG who can shoot.

Re: [Lewenberg] Sources say Raptors intend to be buyers this deadline
I feel like having a 3rd reliable guard is more important than acquiring a big man if the Raps are serious about making a push.
He's having a career year but I wonder what it would take to pry Dejounte Murray from the Spurs. Getting both Murray and Poeltl would be ideal as that would kill 2 birds with one stone.
A combo of Dragic, Boucher and picks doesn't get it done but it works out salary-wise.
Edit:
Starters: Murray, Fred, OG, Pascal, Poeltl
Bench: Gary, Scottie, Khem
Deep bench: Champagnie, Banton, Precious, Svi, Yuta
I like.

Re: [Lewenberg] Sources say Raptors intend to be buyers this deadline
After last night's debacle I don't see how trading for short term pieces makes sense.
Yes - Detroit and Portland results were just two games in a regular season but it's indicative of a lack of maturity. This team still has a lot of growing to do before the Raptors organization even thinks about making trades.

He's probably exceeded expectations more than anybody (except Scottie, maaaybe).
He looks like he can stick as a legit role player in the league.

Re: [Lewenberg] Sources say Raptors intend to be buyers this deadline
ya, same here.
Pascal and FVV are the closest thing they have to a star.
They not going to trade them, unless
1) They being upgraded for a better clear star
2) An offer/package they can't refuse
3) Barnes is ready to take the next step

I think you are mistaken on the difference in positional value of Centre vs big Wing. OG is significantly more valuable around the league than Turner in my opinion. Plus he’s got an additional year at a reduced number. Duarte is not enough to make up the difference to me. Maybe no pick either way but I think that trade favours Indy.
