Just to point out something, teams with the high scoring SG like Mike Miller or Micheal Redd or even Vince Carter. They're still not good.
I don't think 25-27 year old making just more or about the same than Dalembert who's very athelthic, plays very good defense, has a high basketball IQ, great work ethic is going to be UNTRADEABLE.
What really matters is the LOW POST PF, even if we got a Kevin Martin, or Micheal Redd we would still suck. What really matters is the Post presence, whether we get him in the draft or free agency. That's what we need.

Stephen Jackson has won at every level...great analogy. Let's see...the most successful NBA team of the decade, the Spurs, are a high character (to quote you...non threatening) team. The Patriots are a high character team, Steelers, Colts...high character.
Knicks, Raiders...losing franchises in recent history with bad character. This is sports, and sports mirrors society...character wins.
Stephen Jackson won a championship.
The Patriots are the closest thing to punks in sports today in my opinion. They get caught for cheating and taunt other teams like crazy.

You're right...I'm remembering his Nets, Hawks, Pacers, Warriors days over his stink with the Spurs...the Spurs seemed to keep a character core and win, while Jackson has not lead a team to a championship since that magical season. Adding Jackson does nothing to improve the Sixers chance at success.
Good point on the Patriots...while typing, Brady popped in my head, but past him I can't stand them either. Harrison is as dirty as Andre Watters.

Oh and Yeah Poor Character teams like the Bad Boy Pistons , The Oakland Raiders haven't always had bruiser type personalities and weren't they getting it done in the past . I think too many people talk to much about High Character guys. It's the coaches job to make the personalities gel and make a winning team. Too many soft guys deons't get it done. Too many crazy guys doesn't get it done . You telling me you wouldn't take a team right now like the Golden State Warriors ?

Martin is fine...just not as enamored with him as some others are. Yes...the Sixers still are a work in progress. They need to make some moves. Did you think they were going to contend for a championship this year?
Does Stephen Jackson or Ron Artest or Jamal Tinsley (insert other questionable character players here) put this team in contention for a championship? Being brutally honest is fine...this team is not ready for prime time, but it's not b/c they don't have players with rap sheets, it's b/c they are young and not good enough to win at this point.

He may not be untradeable...but what would we get for him at that point? Another potentially underachieving player on another team who might work out better with us?
Ummm...okay.
Is there a rule we have to trade him in 3 years or something? We keep him because he's fairly paid. $11.4 million a year over 5 years is fairly paid for a top 40 player in the NBA these days, let alone in 3 years.
This isn't like Dalembert where they were expecting him to grow into a great player, Iguodala is a very good player right now, and most people don't get worse when they are 24-29, if anything they get better.
Iguodala isn't underachieving.
bebopdeluxe wrote:All that I am saying is that, if we could do a S&T his summer with Iggy's contract and get that #1 option, potentially taking on more contract to make that happen (Redd, Amare, Brand, Arenas, etc...), I would consider it.
Would you?
You're acting like that's the only option though. You can dump other people to clear salary.
The players you mentioned wouldn't want to come here to play with this roster without Iguodala.
And if we're doing the "in 3 years" thing, I'm pretty sure Iguodala will have more trade value than any of those guys besides Amare in 3 years. Maybe Arenas if he comes back healthy.

Is Golden State a serious contender? No.
Big differences between the 70's Raiders and the present day athlete/franchise are the omnipresent media and the rules/drug testing. Lyle Alzado could beat someone's brains in at a bar in Oakland, nobody on the east coast heard about it until the next season. Now, Brady has photographers catching him wearing a walking/healing boot, and the entire team will be asked about this injury. The bad character players cannot be hidden off the court/field, and the media pressure is so great it can impact the team. Aside from that, you have to decide if you are going to have a team, or give in to the bad character. Dallas gave into TO's wishes all season, but did it help them in the end when an inferior Giants team beats them at home? CWebb telling a coach he doesn't play inside anymore doesn't help the team in any way.
If this team did not compete, you may have a point, but this team comes out every night and gives a good effort...they just aren't good enough.

Think about what you just said. "Jackson has not lead a team to a championship" He can't lead a team to a championship because he's not good enough. He's Stephen Jackson! He's never even made an ASG
Grant Hill was a much better person than most people in the NBA, and he never led anyone to a championship. Jordan by all reports was a total dbag and he won 6 titles, 3 with Rodman.
BTW, isn't Jackson the Warriors' captain? He must be doing something right.

Grant Hill never had the opportunity to lead a team to a championship d/t injuries. Stephen Jackson isn't anywhere near the player that Grant Hill was pre-injury. The whole Jordan/Rodman story was that Jordan and Pippen could keep Rodman in line. Off the court, Jordan may have been a jerk, but on the court and in the public eye, he was fine. Perception is reality when you are a celebrity, and the perception of Jordan was not that he was a jerk until after his career ended...it never would have been an on or off court distraction/detriment to his team the way Rodman's or Artest's antics are.

Public Perception is that Ray Lewis killed someone.
Perception doesn't determine who wins sports games, which is what I thought we were talking about.
"Grant Hill never had the opportunity to lead a team to a championship d/t injuries. "
Hill didn't get seriously hurt until he was 28.
"Stephen Jackson isn't anywhere near the player that Grant Hill was pre-injury."
That's my point. He's never led anyone anywhere because he's not that good, not because he's an ass. This is silly.

Right now, I don't think that Iguodala is one of the top 40 players in the NBA.
Could he be - in the next 2-3 years? Very possibly...but I don't know if he achieves that as the starting SG for the Sixers. I don't know how many other ways I can say this, but - given this team's current construction - I just don't think his game is the best fit for the guys around him here.
Put him on a team with a legit low-post offensive threat? Sure.
Put him on a team with a SF like 'Melo or Paul Pierce who can fill it up? OK.
But on a team whose SF of the future plays an awful lot like him (Thad), and a team without a credible low-post offensive threat, I don't know if his game is the right fit for what this team needs - especially in the offensive half-court set.
Perhaps Stefanski can find that low-post threat that can open up this offense and let Iggy shine...if he can do that, then I can see Iggy here as the SG of the future...but if he can't find that guy, I would at least consider the possibility of moving Iggy in a S&T to get that legit #1 offensive option - either at PF or SG.
I'm done.

"Character guys" certainly do lend well to winning championships. But SOFT COWARDLY players do not. I don't want too many more SOFT COWARDLY players on this team like Iguodala. I want a SG/SF that's going to have the will and the skill to shake his defender out of his shoes, then with reckless abandon drive to the rim and finish OVER anyone between him and his objective (Monta Ellis, Kobe, Scottie Pippen, Manu Ginobili). If we can't have that player then I want a dead eye shooter with a quick release and no conscious that's a threat to knock down shots from everywhere on the court (Michael Redd, Richard Hamilton, Kevin Martin, Joe Johnson). Having Iguodala as our future SG is a joke. He's a coward that hides it behind being an "offensive facilitator". I can see him now being the WEAK link in the playoffs consistently getting shut down by his defender scoring 11 points while making $12 million dollars.
Iguodala is too soft to play SF. It's really getting old seeing him come up so small night after night when up against major competition at his position. Iggy played 43 minutes against the Pistons and scored 15 points. 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 5 turnovers, 1 steal, and he ONLY shot 4 free throws. This man lacks an aggressive bone in his body. GET HIM OFF OF MY SIXERS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! John Salmons is more assertive than Iggy.
Billy King was really into drafting/acquiring boy scouts and alter boys...pause...Carney, Willie Green, John Salmons, Iguodala, Kenny Thomas. Those players wouldn't crush a grape in a fruit fight...Where is the competitive zeal? Even Andre Miller is kind of suspect. He sounds as if he visited Michael Jackson's "Never Land" Valley Ranch as a youth. Dre Miller is good but he is not suppose to be the go to scoring option on a team. He is covering for Iggy BIG TIME.

There is a difference between character guys and soft players. Character guys may be model citizens off of the court while on the court their performance knows no fear. A soft player may be a model citizen but while on the court he has OBVIOUS bouts of self doubt and looks to hide in the house when the big dogs come out to play. Sounds like Iguodala doesn't it?
Character guys like Tim Duncan, Tom Brady, Reggie White, Bruce Bowen, Robert Horry, Brian Dawkins, and Ryan Howard all come to fight when the ball is tipped, kicked, or pitched. Iggy may need to eat some spinach or get a heart from the Wizard...

So now Salmons, who had a masterful 8/2/1 game against the powerhouse Clippers, is better than Iguodala...more assertive and apparently more valuable to team success. How many people put up career nights against the Pistons?
I still don't see the lack of competitive drive in this team...it's a lack of talent. They put a good effort forward every night, but they just don't have the overall talent/experience to be successful at this point. I don't get how players like Jackson, Salmons, etc are the answer to this team's problems. The path they are on is the right one, now they just need to make those next moves to move to the next level, and those moves probably won't happen until the off season. Bringing in questionable talent/character players will not do anything to help the team.

You know what, things are finally going the Sixers way. The BEST thing to happen for our team in quite some time was Iguodala turning down that $57 million contract. Now we will not have to suffer through years and years of being burdened by yet another overpriced contract on a player that doesn't even play well enough to earn half of his salary.
So long to the days of the Kenny Thomas, Aaron Mckie, Eric Snow, Mutombo, Chris Webber, Todd Mccullough, Matt Geiger type contracts. I believe that Iggy's dismissal of the offer was finally the breaking of that bad contract trend.
Just think how awful us Sixers supporters would feel watching Iguodala play this season if we knew that the franchise were on the hook for 5 more seasons of his cowardly-non aggressive-non assertive-incapable-of-driving-to-the-basketball play at the tune of $11.5 million per.
*************VOMITS ALL OVER KEYBOARD!!!***********
I believe that Ed has been singing the praises of Andre Miller to prepare people for the possibility of Iguodala being moved. I think that Ed is committed to the idea of letting Miller's contract play out UNLESS someone wants to over pay in a trade scenario involving Miller. The elevation of Miller in the publics eye will cushion the blow to the gut of the average uninformed basketball fan that can not grasp the BIG picture when Iguodala is traded. Especially if Iggy is traded for younger unknown players/draft picks. I mean to them once Iggy's gone who will be our fastbreak dunker?
