We really need to revisit this thread next summer when JR opts out and starts negotiating with other teams to try and get the Knicks to raise their offer. I have a feeling a lot of people will have to come up with a new way of gauging whether a player wants to be a Knick.

I think Lin has a really bright future and will be a fun, dynamic player to watch. That said, I don't think he'll live up to the numbers he posted in those first few games or at least won't for a long time. I wish him the best and hope he keeps up the work ethic because he can truly be great player in this league.

Yeah I think people forget that the original deal changed. NY said they'd match one thing, and Houston upped the offer to 14 million in the 3rd year.

I would be unhappy also if I was told one thing, and then the offer changed.

Yes, its a defining moment. Only the dimwits think this only equals an exodus of Lin fans. A team getting this far into a rebuild settling on Felton as starting PG and letting Lin walk is the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back for many people who don't like being taken for granted.

It is a huge black hole of bad karma the franchise won't easily recover from. If the team fails to advance far into the playoffs now, the blowback on the remaining players like Melo and Stat will be gruesome. I don't look forward to it, but I know most of the clowns who've been trolling this board for two weeks will be the same mob calling for the heads of Knicks players.

Well guys, I feel completely ripped off and I don't want to talk Knicks stuff now. Maybe I will want to later, but I honestly don't know. As Carole King said:

Unlike many others, I do not follow any other team or another sport. This is it for me, so all of my sports junkie eggs are in this basket.

I'm not as young as some here, so you may have another decade in you before you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you one time too many. For me, Lin was the miracle and blessing upon this franchise that really opened hearts and gave us hope. Its not only raw talent, but character and this little overlooked gym rat was a kind of golden child.

I do believe he will have an excellent career elsewhere and it is not pure sentiment speaking, but I do feel whatever faith I had that this team would be wise enough to understand the importance of embracing good fortune is gone.

Trampling on blessings produces bad karma. I do know something about this that goes beyond mere superstition. Whatever was lingering past bad karma for this organization just got refueled big time. This is a curse. I don't feel good about this. Any egos within the franchise, be it management or players, will find themselves dealing with this by some point and it will land on them.

I don't know if any players truly did not want Lin back, but if that were so I believe the karmic effect will literally shine a light on them before long and we will know the truth in one fashion or another. You do not turn away your best PG and chance to win for the sake of vanity and someone's vanity was involved here. Dolan we already know about. He is cursed with his own cloud of shame and bad conscience and it will bring him down in some manner in his life.

This was a truly bad day in sports history. A complete polar opposite of how much pure joy Lin gave us. Apparently the Knicks don't deserve this. They have proven it once again.

all i know is that Melo, Fatten, JR and Potatohead better came out and start winning and pass the *** second round! if not, and by god's name, if in Feb, Houston and Knicks both have the same record, then i hope MSG booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo them off the court EVERY **** game!

After Lin's 14 1/2 ps and 6.2 asssits in 35 games as a 23 year old PG, it's obvious he can ONLY go on to be a superstar in this league. Heck - at the end of his contract, as a 26 year old, he could be a Nash-like 17 pts 9 assists!

Of course, if that performance as a 23 year old DOES indictate future greatness, It stands to reason that if you could get yourself a PG who as a 23 year old put up 14 1/2 pts and 7.4 assists in 79 games, and then DID put up 17/9 as a 26 year old in 54 games for the Knicks - and is still only 27 years old. with7 BETTER assist seasons ALREADY in the NBA than Lin had this season, how do you NOT project greatness for HIM? Just asking.

This is not only an angry post. I'm quite serious. This puts a hex on the franchise. Dolan is a curse and this is his legacy statement. It will never be forgotten.

I understand but I'm not that disappointed. I've been against the direction of the team for the past 18 months and evern since Donnie Walsh was forced out I knew Dolan was slowly derailing the team. I've known for a long time Dolan was the worst owner in the NBA but 18 months ago I finally came to terms with the fact the Knicks would probably not win a championship on Dolan's watch.

For me it's just another blunder. I wanted us to match Lin's offer sheet but the problem goes way beyond Lin. I could understand no matching Lin if the team still had flexibility to acquire a better player down the line via free agency or trade or nba draft. It's just history repeating itself : no draft picks, youth for veterans, expiring contracts for longer contracts, capped out, no flexibility and no plan. The Knicks never learn from their past mistakes. It's insane to have such a high payroll and so little flexibility for a team that only won one playoff game the past two seasons and little room for improvement with only veterans. At best only Melo can become a better player and MVP candidate, Amare, Tyson, Kidd, Camby and the rest can only decline. For me the strategy was flawed from the start and I knew the team would run out of gas (ammos to reach the next level).

As always I will root for the team to win but I don't expect much. It's been like that for a long time (with the exception of the 2008-2011 era where I had hope we would finally build the team the right way with competence and patience (instead of trying to make the playoffs at all costs).

I am not even surprised by what transpired today but it doesnt really have anything to do with Lin as you stated above. I will root for the team as always but I am not expecting much. Will have to see where the direction goes once the contracts expire but Dolan is too much like the spoiled son in the movie the Toy with Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason.
