Nelson Cruz deal means we can't deal Matt to Seattle.

damn.
idc.

either way, I wish Friedman would deal for Howie Kendrick…he's perfectly obtainable.
we need some power/ more extra base hits in our lineup now that Hanley is gone.

You should keep Gordon at 2nd.

Why? Kendrick is better…and I'd give Kendrick a 3 year extension too.
I have no problems with him playing age 32, 33, 34, 35 here….maybe even 36.

Dee's stolen bags/ young, fast legs are enough to convince somebody that he is better than he actually is.
deal him, fan base gets whiney about it but get better in the process.

Okay, that's different if you want to move him. I just know he can not handle SS.

Most likely, which is where he should be. His defense in the outfield isn't very good, and we didn't get much production out of our DH spots last season.

I think its a great acquisition. We didn't have to give up any of our really good young talent, which would have happened if we traded for Justin Upton. Front Office was willing to spend and Cruz will give us some much needed power from the right-side.

does anybody know how the compensatory picks work?

LA and SF get which one of Boston's picks?
or do they both just go to a compensatory round to draft? and then Boston loses two picks?

They'll get a sandwich round pick.

As for who would get a higher pick, SF or LA, I would also like an answer.

and what does Boston lose?

a 1st and a 2nd?
a 1st from this year and a 1st from next year?

It was platooned pretty evenly, I believe.

I believe Boston will lose 2 picks this upcoming draft.

Dodgers and Giants will both get Supplemental draft picks after the 1st round as well as Boston's next 2 highest picks since their Top 10 pick is protected. The two picks that Boston loses will go to the former teams determined by winning % so I think Giants will the 2nd round pick.

Platoon earlier in the year, but it was mainly Morales down the stretch after we signed him.

Pretty sure the batting average over the whole season from the DH spot was under .200. Awful.

I assume LA since they signed Hanley first.

I think Red Sox first rounder will go to LA, and then their next highest pick goes to SF. Not really sure.

They won't be first rounders, they'll be in the sandwich round. Which is appropriate considering who the Sox signed from the Giants.

the first top 10 picks are protected under the new CBA so Boston being one of the worst 10 teams their first rounder is protected. we probably get a compensatory pick after the first round. still not bad.
ehhhhh f it.

If the Giants get Lester, I hope we respond with Scherzer.

or maybe we don't need to respond at all. It's an odd year.

Bum/Lester/Cain vs. Kershaw/Greinke/Ryu would be fun for a few years.

If the Dodgers went after Scherzer in response, why not just absorb the DBacks or Padres and make the payroll $500 mil? Seems like the logical next step.

hoping we can dump some of our big contracts to take on Scherzer.
I'm willing to give up the lineup we had in order to go all in on pitching and defense.
