4 games. This is #2

I think he can play in four games. I don't think many teams exploit it because apparently the badgers are the only team that bench the better qb because they want to develop the young guys and not try to win now.

You say that likes it’s a QB only rule.

Graham Mertz is better than Jack Coan. You cannot convince me otherwise.

This is as true of a statement as ever made...

Coan will struggle vs OSU, Mertz will come in and do better, hope it won’t be too late..

Well, that's one way to get to the truth. W/ that mindset, I guess that's how you affirm the belief after a game where Coan had a 199 rating (while being the better runner) against 1st stringers while Mertz had a 164 in a 5-throw sample against 2nd-stringers.

Maybe they should just not play Mertz period for development purposes if this is inevitably going to be a reaction from a sizable segment of the fan base afterward when he does anything positive. Or they can just ignore it, which they probably will, keep playing him in limited and select situations, while getting the benefit from that and none of the drawbacks of his inexperience.

Coan will be fine when he can just hand off and make the easy read. He can’t win you a game if the opposing team can stop the run. Mertz is obviously inexperienced but has the ability at least to win you a game. I understand it’s easy to look at numbers against cupcakes but watching them is a different story. Graham looks like a quarterback. Jack looks like a Wisconsin quarterback.

I'd have to think it will be primetime. That would be perfect with a 4:00 opener. A 2:30 start would suck.

It won't be primetime. ESPN/ABC has first pick for a Big Ten game that week and already selected ND/Michigan. FOX will take Wisconsin/Ohio State next and they've been placing their best games at 11am this season. They also have the World Series that night so primetime is not an option with FOX. There's a chance they put the game in their late afternoon slot as a WS lead in, but I'd bet on 11am just going off what they've done so far this season.

Good info. 11 would be perfect.

If the Badgers run the table, including the conference championship (which likely means beating OSU twice), the only team with a better resume would be an undefeated SEC champion.

Things may change over the next few weeks, but in basically every advanced stat/predictive model, both UW and OSU are playing top 4 right now. OSU and Alabama per Sagarin are historically good and a touchdown better than the entire country. Grain of salt as obviously OSU's number may come crashing down when they play a few more real opponents.

It would kinda suck if likely the best Badger team ever truly did run into one of the better college football teams in recent memory twice in conference. But a lot still to sort out.

Early release line (jives with the predictive models) on the game is OSU -10.5 for their home game against UW.

Man, some of the Mertz over Coan arguments are hilarious.

"True freshman I've never seen play outside of his high school highlight reel is better than the guy starting."
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”
