Welp. That makes sense. Both the release by the Spurs and also his comments trying to get out in front of it by playing the victim.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Lowry’s cooked and they’re a tiny team. Like they’re starting 6’5” Caleb Martin at PF lol.

If it was some mental health affliction like self-harm/drug abuse I really don't think the Spurs would waive him so coldly.
If he was just being a dick to his teammates or to coaches they'd trade him, not forfeit his rights altogether.
It's something that exists in a weird gray area between these three things and it's hard not to be curious as to what it is. I have one theory that would square everything above away but I don't want to go that far with baseless speculation.
Hit the nail on the head!

Watch Pat Riley somehow flip Lowry and Robinson to the Lakers for Westbrook and the two unprotected firsts in '27 and '29 because God hates us.

But at the time a vast majority of Bucks fans were happy with the trade, regardless of what is said now. ETA Ray was 27.5, not 26 as has been stated in this thread. Not a big difference, but for accuracy.
There were a lot of people upset at the time, but there also was a huge contingent who were frustrated that the Big 3 (and TT) missed the playoffs the year prior. Everybody had their dude they wanted dealt. And post trade, the Sonics only had that one really good season with 52 wins, but then regressed to 31 and 35 wins, and Ray got shipped out from them at age 32.
Where the trade sign took off was the fact he then got dealt to the Celtics and Heat, where he was able to be the #3 or #4 option, and flourish hitting open threes while five HOF teammates drew the defenses and created the openings.
Ray was traded because the team was sold and then brought in Presti to fire up the tank. Allen and Durant would’ve won some games. - Not what they were looking to do while they were waiting to skip town.

In the NFL that means you get traded for a massive haul. On a Pop-coached team, you file for unemployment.

Makes sense with a name like Josh Primo to pull a Ric Flair "Plane Ride From Hell."
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS
