It's a big factor, yes. But some of the younger talent that we might get could be interesting. I have recently been introduced to Dylan Harper, and he looks like a compelling thought for us as well, even though we have some guard talent already.

Flagg would be great, but I think we need to prepare ourselves for that not being a thing. We have like a 9% shot at the top slot, after all, and we aren't terribly lucky in the draft as a franchise. But if we don't get TOTALLY screwed, adding Bailey or Harper or whomever could be pretty interesting, and we will find a way to integrate that talent in one way or another. Even if we select a guard, and render some of our extant assets redundant, that makes them moveable pieces, and then we can start trying to move them for other talent which we actually need as we start trying to build into a competitive squad.

agree, just take the BPA
Definitely for sure you have to take Dylan Harper...but i think some of the speedy guards maybe better

if you get flagg, then may actually have to consider trading Barnes
if you get Bailey, then it maybe a trade down

How well the Cavs do this postseason should shed some light on what you can do without a true top 10 player on your roster.

BPA for sure. And yeah, I mentioned Harper just because he's up there on the mocks. I'm not fully versed in the various guys floating around inside our projected range.

if you get flagg, then may actually have to consider trading Barnes

If we can get interesting value for Barnes, sure. But I'd still be cautious tossing him away when he's a value-add guy as a defender and playmaker. And he's like a 40-45 million a year player starting next year, so while moving his salary would be nice, he's still pretty talented and we'd need to be cautious about what we got back. As vocal as I am about disliking him in a volume scoring role, we probably won't need to use him that way with guys like Flagg or Bailey or Harper AND RJ AND BI and so forth, which opens other doors of value for him with us.

And I don't know about trading Bailey, I'd rather just cultivate the talent and see where it takes us. We need offense, and he looks like a compelling player. Maybe he could even learn a bunch from BI.

If we get Flagg, I think one of the best byproducts will be forcing the FO to move Jak. One of the bigger disappointments of the deadline was realizing that Jak is likely here long term, and that means the impossibility of an effective, efficient and modern offense for the duration of his tenure.

Going from a non-spacing, zero gravity C, to a dynamic 5/4 Barnes/Flagg crunch time tandem gives us maybe the only chance to avoid the fate of a mediocre offense (and terrible one in the playoffs).

A huge team building mistake that they could rectify with some lottery luck here.

So are we going to keep RJ? Seems like he'd be the most likely to be traded.

I've been saying since last season that he's likely Derozan 2.0, to be sacrificed.

RJ as he's playing right now is very different in utility to DeRozan, though. He's high-percentage rim pressure with reasonable efficiency alongside Scottie, with better D than we got from DD. And yeah, tons of rim pressure, which we did not get much of at all from DD. I'd be cautious throwing him away now that we finally have arranged things so he's in his ideal setup again.

I don't know how people expected us to tank next year, even without BI. When healthy, the core without BI is still decent enough with the development of rookies to be a play-in team or barely miss the play-in next year. Let's just hope we get lucky in the draft and everyone including BI stays healthy next year. Otherwise it is gonna be some depressing couple of treadmill years.

I don't think most expect that.

I mean, depending on what we hit in the draft, maybe. Maybe not. But at some point, we need to try to be a decent team; we can't tank forever. Do we wanna be the Knicks at the start of the century? They were completely garbage from 02-20 most of the time (17 years under 40 wins). No hope, no fun watching the team, just absolute trash. And they walked away from that with like 2 decent seasons. That's... not the way to go. We have made our play this year, barring lots of winning in the last third of the season. And that's likely to be it, we're probably back on the horse starting next year.

I would gamble on Embiid. Maybe the 76ers build around Maxey?

The FO doesn't expect us to be better than Indiana next season

I've been saying since last season that he's likely Derozan 2.0, to be sacrificed.

The thing is that to me, Derozan was here to establish a certain level of team before we moved on from him. I think the next move is to upgrade on IQ assuming that there evaluation on him is that he tops out as good to slightly better than good starter. While I have major concerns about RJ on a winning team at the salary and role he likely wants, I think his rim pressure serves a structural purpose for now. Minnesota and Charlotte are of interest to me as trade partners for IQ. I could easily see a trade where Raptors get Ball, Minny get IQ and Charlotte gets Dillingham, Randle's opted in expiring, and future draft assets from us. IQ on a flat contract really help the Wolves salary structure and gives them a floor spacing point guard, Randle is expiring and the Hornets get to really get the rebuild started from the ground floor, and Ball would launch us into a top tier offensive team. Though there are serious concerns defensively, the size of a lineup of Ball, RJ, Ingram, Scottie, Yak so be able to defend at a mid tier level.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I would prefer tre young over ball. I feel tre is more than likely available due to there situation and recent cav trade

I think Ball is more available than people think. The Hornets seem pretty committed to the tank longterm. Also Trae is on a supermax and does not have the natural tools to improve on defense even if the situation and attitude improves. LaMelo is at a more workable number, and in theory, if he matures has a real chance to become at least a slightly below average defender. I would offer significantly more to turn IQ into LaMelo. Trae, I would basically want for "free" with IQ

I know everyone is speculating on the actual cost of moving Embiid, but Darryl isn't going to give him up cheap. Most of our guys are too young, including Barnes on the dev curve, to make this play.

Although a S&T BI for George included makes for an interesting look. (Assumed Jak/RJ out for salary)

Embiid
Barnes
George
Ochai/Walter
IQ

Although IQ fits great in this in an off-ball role, you'd like to upgrade the position. Who knows what you'd have left though.

Interior defense is incredible. So is the passing. George doesn't have a lot of juice left on ball, but still a sniper. Dependent on the motion offense, which is fine for most of it as we have the horses for it. Perimeter D is questionable and an old George isn't going to lock down the wings. Crunch time varied, but inconsistent options.

Would be fun watching them compete but lose in the end. Maybe a 2 year run if you're lucky.

There’s nothing to be scared of he id what he is. Just expect him to miss 20 games next year but make sure he’s healthy for the playoffs

I have zero confidence the Raptors FO will be able to negotiate a value deal with Ingram - I expect a significant overpay as has been the hallmark of this FO.

This is called...having a franchise in Canada. There absolutely is a Canada tax on any of these contracts we hand out. Like BI? Want him to stay? It's gonna cost you. This is not the front office wanting to hand out a larger than a RealGM fan expects...it's called doing business where you are the only team not located in the US.

Toronto is NOT a free agent destination. We do not get the warm weather preferential treatment that Miami, LA, Phoenix, etc. get.

We will find out very fast on who will need to be sacrificed based on who we draft with our pick. Most likely it's going to be RJ and/or IQ.

Only the drafting of Cooper/Harper would require the raptors to make a move this offseason to free up a starting spot. Everyone else including Ace will be coming off our bench next year.
