Way to not contextualize it at all. He did that right after the NBA star investigating a situation where he brought actual loaded guns into the locker room. If he hadn't done that I could have easily seen him getting off with a lighter yet still sever punishment I.E. 20 game suspension. But that picture put all the pressure on Stern he had to come down hard on Gil. This was a very serious issue that Gil was making a joke of, his immaturity ruined his career plus the injury the very next season. Also, Crittenton was wanted by the FBI for murder so I don't think you can put the blame on Stern for that either..
