Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Kobe was the public face of the spirit of LA; the Angeleno dreamer who manifested his vision by way of very hard work added to the talent. That’s the thing, he was living out our Angeleno dream in the public light and we got to experience its ups and downs with him. He truly was the beacon on the hill for all of us in LA. He pulled us all with him. In that light, it makes sense that it feels like losing a family member. He was way more than just an athlete.

Can't wait to get past the funeral and move on. Life continues. We have a championship to win this season.

Any idea of when the funeral will be held? This isn't getting any easier. Feels like a family member is gone.

Funeral will help people with closure. Will it be public?

I’d never have been confused with a Kobe stan or anything, but being half the reason I really got into basketball with Shaq, and leading my favorite team for a decade in what he helped make my obsessive following of the NBA, turned him into undoubtedly my favorite player. I believe Kilroy said something about how if somebody asked him before it happened if it would be upset for days about Kobe dying, he would have laughed. I had that same thought Sunday after it happened, and I wouldn’t have dreamed before that this would have hit me half as hard as it has.

I’ve never gotten the whole being enamored at the sight of celebrities and when explaining my hypothetical lack of over excitement at seeing one in person, I’d always use Kobe as the barometer in conversation like “even if it was Kobe over there...” as he would be the biggest test for containing my excitement. Sorry for the self relating crap but this is all just a trip

There has just been an outpouring of support, I’m playing nba2k now, and in the park, there is more than half the park are repping purple and gold. Many many Kobe jerseys.

In rocket league, I’ve had a purple and gold car for ever, with a Kobe clan tag. And almost every game people are saying RIP, goat, mamba, Kobe, 24, 8, 81.

Never has anyone said anything negative. Which is crazy in an online game, which is usually full of the most toxic people imaginable.

I just realized this isn’t going to go away anytime soon

Every laker away game, the team is going to have something planned. The mourning will continue until next season at least. Several teams are already done with the Lakers for this season.

It’s going to be a full year of mourning Kobe at least.

I can’t fathom the emotional toll that this is going to take on the Lakers players. Every game they are going to have to relive his death, this season and the next.

I have no idea when things will return to something we can recognize as normal.

I'm not sure if it was posted before (sorry if it was), but I hadn't seen it, and I'm sure many of us were anxious to see a statement from Phil.

I think they'll do something similar to what they did with Dr. Buss. Funeral will be private with family and close friends and then a public eulogy will be held somewhere in LA where all the basketball people will speak.

I was just saying, reminds me of Tupac and that still gets me sad thinking about decades later. I think basketball will always remind us. Don't be surprised if you feel sad about this 5 years from now.

TNT special was tough. A single tear rolling down Shaq's cheek as he shared his emotions ... man. Didn't think Jerry was going to be able to keep it together.

I wonder if West feels any guilt about going to the Clippers and not being around the Lakers organisation during this time period, seems like a strange time to bring it up that Kobe was going to go there too.
