Crazy to me how a couple years ago this video was used to show how an absolute useless NBA scrub (Vanvleet) can easily destroy other hoopers 1on1 (a young Jordan Poole and Marcus Posley who was an OK G-league player).
Fast forward 4 years and he is in all star discussions.

So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Yea, he should

DeRozan, LaVine, Harden, Young and two wc for FVV and Garland

Forwards: KD, Embiid, Tatum, Giannis, Butler and Middleton? Adebayo?Allen?

Replacement player Holiday

Derozan is playing point forward this year, why is he listed as a guard when he's more of a 4 than a 3, let alone 2?

Because a point forward is technically not a position?!

Yeah but according to bbref he hasn’t played a minute at any guard position in 3 seasons, so the question stands. He deserves to be in as a forward.

FVV definitely deserves to be an All Star, but there is a lot of anchoring bias among voters (including media and players). Because they used to think of FVV as a bench guy, a back up, etc. they still think he’s that despite the fact it hasn’t been true for years and he’s putting up major impact numbers.

Edit: the reverse happens too, because guys like Tatum and Beal have reputations as “all stars” people still vote for them despite them no longer playing at that level.

LaVine, Harden, Beal, Young, Ball,

Herro, Garland & VanVleet are the bubble. We’ll see who skips for injury/rest and the replacements.

Define "star power". Sounds like you're just making things up along the way with vague statements.

That is why Fans voting has ruined the All Star game ... Guys who deserve to be All Star are snubbed because they are not flashy. FVV is having amazing season not just at the offensive, but defensively he is an elite and gives 100% at that end .. but never gets the recognition he deserves.

The All Star game is about dunks and logo 3s not defense and setting screens.

A lot of awful takes in this thread from people who don't know anything about Fred's game, or his impact to the Raptors.

No surprise, we saw the same thing with DeRozan and Lowry a few years ago

All I will say is thank god, the coaches have a say for who is an all-star, rather than it just being the fans (with 95% of them being low IQ). Zaza almost got voted in as a starter for gods sake.

Yes against Utah's GLeague team, but still a crazy run and fun to watch live.

Not having DeRozan as a front court player might rob someone like VanVleet or Garland from getting in, unfortunately. But make no mistake about it, Fred has very much been an All star this year.

Because they're trying to speak it into existence. And it's going to work

Fred was never a useless nba scrub. As a rookie, he barely played because Toronto had Lowry, Joseph, Derozan, Powell, Ross and Wright at the 2 guard spots. That's a lot of depth on a 51 win team. Whoeever... when he got a chance to play as a rookie he had a couple of double digit scoring games and everybody knew he had something

By his second year he was playing 20 mpg off the bench and had massive impact on winning.

He was never a useless scrub.

all star you also need to be popular and fvv is probably the least likeable.

Okay, I get calling Fred short, or implying that his hot streak isn't enough to get him to the ASG (I disagree), or criticising his offense (how, though?).

But 'unlikable'? Dude is a blue collar workhorse, who gives it his all, upps his teammates (and other players) and just seems like an all around nice guy.

How is he unlikable, other than not being on a team you like?

I desperately wanted the Knicks to sign him when he was a FA, love his game, he's basically Lowry the sequel.

Yep, just taking the Lowry reigns and doing a little bit of everything out there.

We love him!

I think it depends on where we end up in the standings by all-star game. I've never been a fan of non-playoff teams getting all-star selections.

32/4/4/2 in another win tonight and hit 3 straight deep 3s late in the 4th including this beauty to tie the game:

If the Raptors are in a top 6 position when they select the players it will be very hard to deny FVV a spot.
