Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
Seen this play out before. Thibs gets the most out his scoring PGs and team defense. Pacers were just a better roster 1-12. They steamrolled the Bucks and Cavs. Might've had some benefit with opponent's injuries, but so did NYK with the Celtics.
The only silver lining is there are some good coaches available, but I don't think their personalities will be way different than Thibs'.

I hope it’s Malone and people can get their depth in Russell Westbrook.

I won't pretend that I think he's the best coach they can get, but you'd hope they already have a clear candidate(s) that are better. Firing a coach after their season without someone better to replace him would be incompetence at it's highest.

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
Didn't NY have that stupid stat this post season where their starting lineup played 15 more games worth of minutes than any other starting unit these playoffs? That's just ridiculous. They were ran into the ground and banged up last year when they went down in a hard fought 7. They can't keep going like this.
If I'm NY, I'm going straight to Malone.

I'm not the biggest Thibs fan out there, but did he deserve this? I assume the Knicks have someone in mind already

Its the circle of Thibodeau. He gets a mediocre team to overachieve. Fanbase and front office are convinced their mediocre players are really stars if they just had a more player friendly coach. Thibs gets fired. Team slides back to mediocrity or worse.
Fred Hoiberg is available. I wonder if the Knicks go that route.

Look out for John Calipari.
You’re joking right?
Dolan makes the final decisions in NY and he's always wanted to hire Calipari.

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
There’s a man who knows how to win with Karl-Anthony Towns. This man also won an NBA Coach of the Year award and also happens to know what it’s like to hold an NBA coaching job in the Tri-State area. Step right up, John Calipari!
It’s also true that over the years no coach has been closer to Rose and his No. 2 in the Knicks front office, William Wesley, than the Arkansas coach who coached Towns with both the University of Kentucky and the Dominican Republic national team. Calipari was the head coach for the New Jersey Nets for two and a half seasons, earning one playoff appearance in 1997-98 (he was swept). When Rose got the job to run the Knicks, Calipari spoke glowingly about Rose and his future in New York. (He was right that Rose would turn it around.)
Calipari reportedly has four years remaining on his five-year pact with the Razorbacks, who gave him an annual pay cut from his gig at Kentucky. If the Knicks came calling and offered him a job with a competitive salary, I’m sure he’d pick up the phone. As for college coaches in the NBA, the track record hasn’t been overwhelmingly strong. Of the 13 coaches that made the jump, none has made it to the NBA Finals — something that eluded both Billy Donovan and Brad Stevens despite their successes.
Just dropped.. but yeah I'm the funny guy

This feels 10 years too late for Coach Cal. I seriously couldn't imagine turning this Knicks team into a clown show operation under Cal.
Praying for Burrow

How wild is it that Thibs did not go 10 deep until the final 2 or 3 games of the season? It's like too late buddy, you had these guys collective anus glued to the bench.
i mean lets be real the drop off in talent from their top 7 players is insane, that's on leon rose.
they wouldn't have beaten detroit or boston playing 10 players regularly. i feel like there were thib's teams in the past where he shoudl have trusted the young talent more but this aint it. cam payne, landry shamet, delon wright, these guys should be garbage minute players at this point, not rotational.
i think thibs has his flaws but i don't think the pacers loss is on him and the knicks roster is what it is.
wings like hart, bridges, anunoby are young enough and athletic enough to play heavy minutes.
If Wright, Shamet, and Precious are such butt cheeks then why for the final 2 or 3 games of Thibs Knicks coaching tenure is he giving them rotation minutes?
To me, he looked worse playing 10 guys at the end. If he didn't trust those dudes or care to develop their roles, why play them now? It was honestly a worse look than just sticking with his top 7.
Rest on your laurels, Thibs.
shamet averaged 15.7 mpg during hte regular season
precious averaged 20.7 mpg during the regular season (he only played a couple mpg in the playoffs)
payne averaged 15 mpg during the regular seasion... how many more minutes was he supposed to play them in hte regular season?
unless you have an insane bench everyones bench shortens in the playoffs because those looks that were open in the regular season are closed out on and they aren't open anymore and flawed players are exposed.
i just find it highly unlikely the knicks will improve and i don't think this was a case of him having better options but dolan is a trash owner and i know the knicks probably feel like their window is short and didn't have confidence but i woudl be shocked to see them make the finals before they break this team up. they clearly were a team that played together well and played like a team.

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
So many similarities between how Raptors fired Dwayne Casey.
1. Defensive team
2. Bad offensive system
3. Underperform again in the playoffs.
4. Heavy minutes on starters.
I think if the Knicks replace him with a good coach, they're about 1 solid trade away from the finals.
I think they need to start KAT at the power forward spot, Robsinon at the center. They need to trade two of Bridges / Hart / OG and get a solid star.

At least let him underachieve for 1 season before canning him. You could argue he overachieved every season with that roster and yet he still got the boot...

Well that's impatient and just dumb. What would Thibs have had to do to call the season a success? And would anyone call that realistic? All that team did was improve every year with Thibs and Rose and its close but not ready. They beat the Celtics. That's a huge win. Nobody was going after Rose's job for not winning it all. It just doesn't make sense.

NYK have never underperformed in the playoffs under thibs and they only improved. Get him a bench he can play.

First time in the ECF's in 25 years. First time winning back to back 50 wins season, in like forever. A few bounces here or there and they could have won. They were 2 wins from the finals.
It might work out if the replacement is really great. It might just fail spectacularly. We'll see.
It will Fail . Knicks gonna Knick
They’ll hire Steve Nash probably

Agree offensive system should be better, though KAT is the best offensive #2 he has ever had and he got 1 season to figure it out.
Where was the underperformance? Definitely looked to me like Indy was the more talented team.
Who is trading a star for those guys with no pick assets attached since the NY FO used them all on Bridges? Then how will that help heavy minutes on the starters?
