Greetings,

FYI: Streetcar = Tram.

It's basically a rail vehicle that carries multiple passengers on the street.

When riddle says "they", it probably means other passengers on the streetcar.

Ta-da!

I see two actors: A streetcar driver and the original man.

Who else is kicking him off?

My fault, I forgot to quote in my previous post.

There is no answer to this riddle. Tell him that's the answer. Every time this riddle is told you do tell the answer...in a roudabout literal way...since the answer is never in the riddle...or no answer.

Jesus. I said almost exactly this 3 years ago

Capn'O wrote:I think you're on to something here.

He gives the driver a dime and THEY kick him out after 10 blocks. There is only one driver mentioned. That has to be at least one of the pieces.

I was seeing if there was a marching band tune called "the riddle" that could potentially offend but no dice.

Is this an example of great minds think alike or is that something else?

Did I get it? Did I? It's been awful quiet since I posted that last answer. I feel like somebody is going to jump out to take me away any time now...

yea i went that route back on page 8 lol

We should have a Riddle of the Day Thread. People can signup and every day, whomever is up, will post a Riddle (previous riddle is considered closed, answered or not, and that riddle master can provide the answer if no one guessed it).

I have one right now that I just solved that takes a good deal of thinking.

There has got to be an unknown character such as a friend of the man that had a dollar or the streetcar driver. Although it doesn't say where it do says "THEY kicked him out" suggest help.

Now either its the streetcar driver getting robbed for his streetcar or the man got robbed by the streetcar driver for his drum and drumsticks.

Since the answer is every time the riddle is said... after saying it fast I kinda heard THE REAL DEAL!

A man had a dollar. He spent 80 cents for a drum and 10 cents for 2 drumsticks. He gave a streetcar driver a dime to drive him 13 blocks. On the tenth block they kicked him out. Why?

"The tenth block" is name of the stop/ street.

He paid 10 cents to driver to drive him 13 blocks to "the ninth block" which was the destination... and after driving 13 blocks and arriving at "the ninth block", he forgot to get off probably was playing with his drum. The streetcar driver was paying attention to the road and when he realized the guy did not get off, the driver said "WTF you're still here?? You're supposed to get off at "the ninth block", I only drive you 13 blocks for 10 cents, that's it!!! No more!!! FOH!!!" and he kicked him out at the next stop: "the tenth block" which is 1 block more than agreed by both. In other words, the driver ended up driving him 14 blocks (instead of only 13 blocks as agreed) to "the tenth block".

Only one living person at a time in his family knows it, and when they are dying, they only tell it to one other member to carry it on. He does not know the answer, and he bet me that I can't figure it out before he does. He said I can ask anyone in the world that I want for help, so I figured I will take to the bright minds on this board.

The riddle is:

A man had a dollar. He spent 80 cents for a drum and 10 cents for 2 drumsticks. He gave a streetcar driver a dime to drive him 13 blocks. On the tenth block they kicked him out. Why?

Hint: I tell you the answer every time I say the riddle.

Good luck guys. I look forward to your answers.

A dime in that sentence doesn't refer to the coin. It's a woman (dimepiece). They kicked him out (meaning the woman and the streetcar driver) because the man was getting in the way..

I think I actually solved it...
On the tenth block, they kicked him out. (I feel like this was also proposed at one point)
A man had a dollar. He spent 80 cents on a drum and 10 cents for 2 drumsticks. The people on the tenth block kicked him out. He gave a street car a dime(his last dime) to drive him 13 blocks.

Hint: I tell you the answer every time I say the riddle.

The answer is ”A man had a dollar” The hint is I tell you the answer every time I say "the riddle" and the next words after that are "A man had a dollar". So they kicked him off because “A man had a dollar” the streetcar reached capacity and he had only paid a dime for him and his drums. That also explains why it said “They kicked him out” They being the man with the dollar and the streetcar driver...

Defeats the purpose of the riddle. You are bringing in outside conjecture that a dime only gets him 10 blocks. That to me is a part of the riddle meant to confuse. If you wanted to play off "A man had a dollar" and he payed a street car driver, you could also say something like "the streetcar drivers shift ended" but then you are still making a conjecture. Lots of people suggested that playing the drums was bothering streetcar passangers and he was kicked off as a result or that the drum was of alch and he was pissing people off. Those all require assumptions rather than being TOLD the answer as the hint suggests.

I'm a bit bothered no one has really commented on my attempt, because I can't see how it doesnt make sense. They kicked him off the tenth block.
That answers WHY he paid 10 cents to the street car driver. He had to leave the 10th block.

He can't. He said himself that the only time the answer is given is on death of the previous holder of the answer. So unless we losing GONYK there is no answer. That's why I said there is no answer.

Another reason why I said there's no answer is because there can be an infinite number of answers for this riddle.

---

Now if you guys want a riddle where there is an definite answer...here's one...

1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
2. In each house lives a person of different nationality
3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigarrette and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION/RIDDLE: WHO OWNS THE FISH?

6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
