Could my mega trade (above) happen?

Well, yeah, mostly it still could, but not completely... Portland already shipped out Wade Baldwin the third, er, make that the fourth, in exchange for Hood.

But the trade for Hood might actually make the mega-trade somewhat more conceivable, since Evan Turner is that much more expendable than he was before.

As someone asserted earlier, and I agree, the big question is just how badly Memphis would want to cleanse themselves of their Parsons dead weight. It's already been reported that those talks have occurred, and even that they included Plumlee as part of that conversation. So, in effect, they exchange that $25m dead weight for the rest of 2018-19 and 2019-20 and an end-of-the-bench young player for a viable though expensive wing they actually would put on the floor (Turner) and a 3rd C, and the flexibility of having those two more movable assets than the one chunk one.

Honestly, with Schlenk's history, I'm not sure I want him participating in a trade of that magnitude. I don't want the Hawks getting doubly screwed.

I started to say I didn't want to get screwed by two guys but @spud2 is having one o' those days and he would've run with that.

Hmmm... I fail to see any downside for us as it's shown here... but the key is what protections would be placed on the MEM and SAC 1sts that we pocket.

Call it being wary based on Schlenk's trade history. Not necessarily an indictment of your suggested deal.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings (this time), sturtivant. This time.

Just remember that it takes two to tango in these trade talks. I'm sure Schlenk is on the phone, relentlessly looking to deal Lin, Dedmon and Bazemore but if Thursday Night comes and those guys are still on the team, it'll be because we didn't get a worthwhile offer. Same thing happened last year with Dedmon, Ilyasova and Bellineli.

Guaranteed one Hawks trade will go down this trade deadline.

I hope that TS hasn't backed himself in a corner with the no more 19 FRP statement. I don't even get it, any FRP is super easy to trade. You can difer the pick or combine it with other picks to move up.

I want more picks and less vets after Thursday

Man I'd send the Dallas pick to ORL for Bamba in a heartbeat. Outside of the duke 3 and Culver, there's not a lot of guys that I like in the upcoming draft. Bamba can develop into a great fit next to Collins and will look better on offense with a dynamic playmaking guard like Trae.

I don't think that's necessarily true. POR had 4 1sts a year ago and desperately wanted to move one or more. Couldn't make it happen. It's never easy to move an asset that everybody knows you need to move.

And what do you mean you can defer the pick? And you can only combine the picks if someone wants to move down. It's not that easy.

The only trepidation I have on Bamba is there are questions about his motor and work ethic. He's been suspended already due to tardiness. How often do you have to be tardy as an NBA player to get suspended?

ETA: There's also questions about his physical fitness (conditioning, not strength) which is really strange.

No Bamba for us. Woj just reported he has a severe stress fracture.

Don't know about that.

Actually might bring the price of poker down so much that it's a serious consideration that it wouldn't have otherwise been.

When you're not intending to compete for anything important until 2021 at best, you can make these kinds of situations work for you.

Yeah, the great basketball philosopher Iverson once had something to say about that.

And hey, maybe he wasn't doing the conditioning thing just as a matter of pain avoidance... it can't be pleasant dealing with a severe stress fracture, right?

I don't see any problem. For instance, if we are talking with Portland about Lin, I don't think it's that rattling to the framework of a trade to acquire their 2020 instead of their 2019, as long as the 2020 is somewhat protected.

I wouldn’t mind continuing to have bargaining chips moving forward. 2020 is fine with me specially if it decreases the protection on the 1st rounder.

But then again, Schlenk didn't trade everyone we thought he'd trade last deadline. So, hard to say anything with any certainty.

Most on here would be right about Lin, Baze, Ded....nothing earth shattering.
It wasn't like he didn't want to trade Beli and Illy.
Schlenk didn't trade them because he was getting a 2nd and $9 million back. That wasn't a good deal.

I have been thinking recently that was a throw away statement. When the season started he was all gungho on his 3 lottery picks, then the Cavs pick up and vanished like a fart in the win.

It could be that teams are wanting him to take back too much salary for the 2019 1st along with giving up our Vets.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
