I think that would be a mistake. I think Deng needs to be let go as well as the rest of this core outside of Derrick, Jimmy and Mirotic. This draft is wing heavy. You keep Deng and Butler, you don't have room to play the rookie or allow him to make mistakes. Thibs would pull him faster than ever.

I don't even understand the idea of trading Deng for a Salary "dump". He is an expiring deal, so we can just dump his salary by letting him walk. Trading him for a "dump" and a low to mid 20s pick does not help us either. Yes we could get another Taj, Butler etc, or we could get another Teague. If we had no picks this draft would be 1 thing, but we have Mirotic, our pick and Cats pick. 3 first year players are enough.

So we trade Deng because he is "too good" and will keep us out of the lottery and cause us to win to many games. But we cant keep him because he is not good enough and will not help us win many games.

I like the idea of tweaking the team, adding the 3 young guys and trying to get Deng on a reasonable deal. If we can trade for a good young player instead of a pick, i would prefer that. Waiters, for example.

Strange days indeed.

It's a strange stance for them to hold. They're basically saying they're content losing Deng for nothing in free agency just to have the chance to re-sign him.

They were confident they would retain Asik in free agency too. All it takes is one team to make a ridiculous offer.

I believe this. Bulls know how much Deng will cost them. Unless they are getting an asset they won't trade him. His value won't be to high due to his FA status.

I think someone will pony up an asset. I don't know if Bulls will do anything. I would think they would try to get out of the tax but apparently they won't trade Deng to do that.

I was going to post something similar. Trading Deng sounds good in theory, but it's not a must move. Trading someone having Bird rights is a very risky decision. You would have to know for sure in two years when we have capspace that you can get someone better in free agency. Trading Deng now doesn't give you flexibility to do anything extraordinary.

And what's the big deal of having Parker, wiggins, or Exum playing SG? Lebron was a SG when he was first In the league. Rose, Parker, Deng, Mirotic, Noah.......c'mon.

Very strange stance indeed. Poor leadership. Reminds me of Gordon. They know Deng will get paid and they won't be paying him. They gave the same line with BG "we want to retain him"

LeBron is also a top 2 player ever who is 6'8, 270 pounds and runs like a deer. LeBron can play spots 1-5 defensively, but offensively as well, which is what people don't understand. Exum is a scoring PG. Wiggins can possibly play SG. Parker doesn't have the lateral quickness or flat out speed to be a SG.

That's probably a question for May 2014.

But I would safely assume that if Wiggins or Parker were available to the Bulls, Deng will not be returning to the team.

Trading Deng for Okafor doesn't save money, but if a first round pick is attached to it, that's a player that will be here in years Deng won't be.

A deal like Deng/Teague for Okafor/Washington or Minnesota 1st works for me.

We need shooters and people that can create their own shoots. No more post players - unless you parlay Noah/Parker. This isnt a big man league anymore - only the Pacers, but they have solid perimeter players.

Deng will be re-signed and the Bulls will be stuck in NBA hell for years to come while half the roster continues to decline and succumb to injuries. They won't have any flexibility whatsoever once these new deals for Jimmy and Luol kick in.

I disagree with the 2nd half of your statement. I agree, this team definitely needs more shooters and shot creaters and ball handlers. I disagree with no more post players. Post players allow you to abuse teams on the inside when they start running you off the three point line or start playing your shooters tight. That's why I want multiple picks in this draft.

Imagine Embiid, with Lavine. My god I would wet my pants.

That's the thing, a 4th rookie player on our team next year most likely will not be here for the years Deng will be gone. I am not sure that i would give up Dengs bird rights for the shot of a late lotto 4th rookie. Would anyone trade Deng for Okafor and Archie Goodwin, because that is way more likely to be the result of the pick we would get.
