I have said for a couple years now that Kevin Love is not on the same athletic level of the other superstars in the league. He struggles mightily to compete with more athletic players. It is also not a good sign that he has not been able to play well with Lebron. If he gets destroyed by the better Western Conference teams, why would the Suns want him. Just because the Suns suck? I would rather get more draft picks than trade for Kevin Love.

If push came to shove I'd be okay dumping him, but I'd really prefer getting a pick of some kind back. I think Boston, with their 30,000 picks in the next few years, would take Lee plus at least a 2nd rounder for Chandler.

Why do you think Boston would like Chandler at that contract, particularly if they had to give up a pick for him. They are pretty much in a rebuild too. Closer to competing of course, but I'm not sure that makes a lot of sense for them unless I am missing something.

Because all it takes is one injury to that "superstar" for it to turn from an unbeatable team to the new 76ers.

I know but it's not something we should rely on.
If we were the Thunder or Clippers, then I agree. But we're at the bottom and nowhere close to competing. It makes no sense to continue to tweak until we find the right player.

Really? Gortat? Scola?Dudley? We weren't there, we don't know if any trades were available to make.

I doubt if much arm twisting was going on when we gifted theGORTAT to Wash.

This path to this current Sh*tSh*w has been a muddy one.

And now, by default as much as anything, the Tankers have their way.

Horrible take. But I guess we should've gotten 3 firsts for Dragic, and 2 firsts for IT, a guy who nobody was willing to pay even $7.5 million a year only a few months earlier, and who didn't perform any better in Phoenix than he had in Sac.

What were you expecting last year? That if we had traded Dragic and Thomas earlier, we would've made the playoffs? Hate to break it to you, but once we decided to trade them, we were not making the playoffs, whether that trade happened in week 1 of the season or at the deadline. That was a total rebuilding move. Those were the types of moves you've advocated for (trade the vets, blow it up), but you hate McDonough too much to see that.

Of course it is a horrible take. It disagrees with your viewpoint so I must be a complete idiot.

And of course you know FOR A FACT that if the Suns had traded Thomas immediately once he was eligible to be traded and things would have gone back to only Dragic and Bledsoe, that the Suns still would have sucked. Give me a break. ESPN writers said the Suns knew in training camp that they felt they made a big mistake bringing in Thomas so why did McDonough not trade him sooner and reset the balance of the roster?

Now I do not like Dragic, Bledsoe, Knight, or Thomas. But the best incarnation of that group was Dragic and Bledsoe by far. The other combinations are just terrible. Does not matter though. It is in the past. McDonough has held onto Markieff for so long it is insane. Let's say he gets ten first round picks for him. So what. He lost this season. Don't you get that? The season is over. Another wasted year. If Markieff was traded before training camp, I bet this year is a whole lot different. But I guess I am just a moron since I have a different opinion than you.

I am agreeing with most of your post, but it won't start out sounding that way, so keep reading.

I don't know that McD waits too long in the sense that normally it kills people's trade value (I think we got more for Dragic when teams knew they would re-sign with them and offered more) and I don't know that we would have gotten more for IT earlier. Kieff, maybe we would have gotten more earlier, but I do think we will probably get more at the deadline or even next summer than we would have gotten earlier in the season. He still had the jail thing and the "cancer' reputation in the beginning of the season and summer...teams typically pony up more at the deadline and when they strike out on free agents in the summer.

BUT, I ABSOLUTELY agree that it may not matter all that much to hold out for better assets if it is going to ruin seasons. Perhaps we are not going to get past the first round anyway, so to many championship or bust type fans, who cares....but if you can give the fans who watch for fun a year of entertainment instead of a crappy no fun to watch team for two years, by getting rid of chemistry killers and disgruntled players earlier, I think it's worth it.

This is the part McD doesn't seem to grasp. He is looking more championship or bust, whereas Sarver wants to give the fans a good product and getting to the playoffs....and many fans just want a competitive entertaining team. EVERYONE would love a championship but that is so rare in professional sports that if your mentality is strictly if you can't get a championship you might as well tank, then you are going to be depressed 99% of the time.

To me, we need to enjoy the season, have hopes for the playoffs, get a little better each year, and build slowly to championship caliber. There are rarely quick fixes like when LA got Gasol or Boston got KG and Ray Allen and Miami got LeBron and Bosh. Yes, those all happened in a short span, but that is pretty rare overall.

I don't think you need to tank and get a top 5 pick because half of those are busts anyway, and many of the best players in the league were drafted later (Kawhi, Green, George, Butler, etc)...if you have savvy scouts, drafting, make the right little moves, sign undervalued players, don't sell or trade draft picks, etc, you are ok.

Love/Varejao/Mo Williams
for
Knight/Kieff/Tucker/Chandler/Mirza

Works in the trade checker if you use CLE's TPE. Cleveland loads up(Kieff/Chandler are gonna look a hell of a lot better with Kyrie and LeBron, Tucker is the perfect 3/D guy for them, Mirza is having the best year of his career as a stretch 4, and Knight is a young microwave scorer off the bench), we get our All-Star and move forward with a Bledsoe/Booker/Warren/Love/Len core.

Except the Cleveland pick being protected 11-30 which is wrong. It's top 10 protected, meaning we get it if it's between 11-30 which it will be

Can you use TPE combined with players in a trade?

Because with the amount of picks they have they couldn't possibly use them all. A 2nd rounder in exchange for getting their guys playoff experience is probably worth it. A first would be a different story.

It's just a big contract, so that might be the only hold up, but I guess the next two years that is unlikely to be a problem. I imagine if have a contract they'd like to get rid of (maybe a lesser one) that goes for 2-3 more years) they'd rather not take up that much cap space in case they were able to sign a free agent.

You can't, but I think a Kieff for TPE straight up as one deal and then the rest works.

Why do we want Kevin Love? He is unathletic, a terrible defender, an over rated shooter and has proven in the past you can't build a team around him. He is not a winner and he is most certainly not a superstar. He will be 28 next season and he's only going to lead us to further mediocrity.

Is this is what it has come to? Trading for Kevin Love and making him our center piece? The Cavs regret trading for him, if we now give up a bunch of assets to trade for him ourselves then we too will regret it. People saying we can flick him later on are kidding themselves....his value is dropping by the way, he is not seen as anywhere near as valuable as when Cleveland dealt for him and he's just been a downward spiral this season.

He's a 27 year old offensive(only) PF who is shooting 41% from the floor - that's worse than Knight and as bad as Tucker lol. Yeah, yeah he's a 3rd option but he's getting a lot of open looks on the perimeter and bricking a high amount of those. A big a NO THANKS.

Sources close to the Suns say that they are not going to make a bad deal just to force Morris off the roster, but as the deadline gets closer there is an increasing sense around the league that Phoenix might blink on a deal just to remove the problem from their equation.

Morris has returned to the starting lineup, which could help the Suns’ case. However, Morris has been wildly inconsistent in his production, which could hurt the process too.

Sorry McDonough, you're cray.

"Every morning when we wake up and check the standings, you expect to be eliminated already, and somehow you are only 5 1/2 games back, which seems impossible to me. But that’s the reality of the situation. Theoretically, could we string together a winning streak and climb back into it? Yes, that would be our preference."

Theoretically Kevin Durant could shock everyone and sign with the Suns in the offseason too, right McDonough?

I understand your apprehension about Love. He is a flawed star player but if theres a chance where we could acquire one without breaking the bank, then i believe we should go for it. Now is the time to buy low on him, same with Paul George last year. If teams pounced on PG while he was injured, the return wouldve been tenfold. Frankly in this day and age, its very very difficult to acquire the ideal player without gutting our team and draft picks.

That is pretty unbelievable....I was making am mockery earlier about him saying "We are still only 7 games back and BK scored 18..." but wow.

I just read the link...and this kind of goes along with my response to letgso about trading guys....I think people put more stuff on the table at the deadline or in July...

Q: He has a moveable contract. To me, that would seem an inviting target for other teams if you were looking to build moving forward.
McDonough: “It could be. If you look at the NBA in general, the trades usually come in waves or in stages. There are a lot of moves early in the summer, July. Usually it dies down, and usually, there aren’t a lot of moves between July and the trade deadline. Closer to the deadline, talks heat up again, and there is a flurry of activity. I think that’s what we’re expecting. Obviously we are not being passive. We’re looking at all our options and prioritize what we want to do but it obviously takes two teams to make a deal, and usually those deals get completed in the days or even hours leading up to the trade deadline.”
