If there's a team that might want to make a trade, it will be Atlanta. So far their offense is one of the worst in the league despite their great defense, and they are now <.500. Not really sure exactly what kind of trade the Clippers can make with them, the guys of interest would be guys like Thabo, Prince, Bembry, and even Korver despite his age, but I don't know if there's really anything that makes sense for both sides.

If it continues to not work out so well for them, a team like the Raptors should look to try and grab a guy like Millsap, then maybe the Clippers could pop their heads in on a multi-team trade.

getting thabo or korver would be incredible. just don't see how that'd ever happen.

maybe if they thought jamal crawford was the answer to shot creation? who knows. offense on second unit would definitely lack for creation if there were, say, a thabo for crawford trade. but the defense would ratchet up and some staggering of blake with the second unit would more than make up for that.

the dream...

An option to look at is young players who are struggling at the moment. The Magic for example are looking for scoring. Jamal could be a great asset for them as a bench scorer. That might be a team to consider making a trade with with the target of Mario Hezonja and whatever package can be built around that. Of course 21 year old second year player, for a 36 year old guy making a decent amount, so I don't know what peripherals you would need to make this work.

Brice Johnson though just new might be a trade piece to use if targeting any young players on another team. Looking to Atlanta again, try and get Splitter and Prince and send out like Crawford, Johnson and 2nd.

Jamal was a much better contract to trade when he was a non-guaranteed $5 million or expiring $5 million or so. Now with his $13 million contract with 3 seasons and being 36 years old, it's less about whether the teams can use him and more about him making so much at an older age.

Not sure anyone really wants Austin, so that's not really a better option.

yeah was reading the thread on t/t and wondering if crawford fits the bill for the perimeter scorer they need. i don't see them trading hezonja but i do wonder what else they might be willing to give up?

hell i'd be fine trading austin rivers to them too just to get some actual second unit balance going.

Well they would certainly be cool with trading Jeff Green, lol. I don't mind Jodie Meeks and CJ Watson either since they do expire much sooner. Those would be the guys.

If the clippers made Griffin available they might be able to get butler. I wouldn't make that trade though. I'd much rather have George if he ever became available. I think I'd trade Griffin for George

I think he has one more year on his contract after this one. I don't think they would make a trade for Griffin though because Griffin would probably just leave in free agency in the off season

yeah there's no way they'd do a griffin for pg straight up if pg has more time left on his contract. only way to make something like that happen would be if we coughed up an extra asset, but it's not like we have a whole lot available.

In the trade forum, I suggested Griffin + Redick + Felton for Butler + Gibson or Mirotic. With the value of Butler's contract vs production with 3 more years left, it's a hard trade for the Bulls with no guarantee that Griffin stays, hence adding Redick. Felton is added because they need a PG, though it hurts the Clippers at backup PG, but Jarret Jack is healthy and could be an option.

Are the Clippers better? Maybe, I mean it could work out better for the Clippers defensively to have a starting lineup of:

Paul / Butler / Mbah / Gibson / Jordan. The shooting is certainly not as strong though

Wish it was that simple, but he would be a difficult player for the Clippers to trade for without giving up one of their best players. If the team gives up one of their best players, it would likely be Griffin, and like mentioned, the contract situation is more favorable for Chicago with Butler

I think the best option would be jj. a lot of teams are looking for shooting. it appears Austin is going well and will replace jj at some point. the contracts of jamal and Austin will make it very difficult to move them plus it looks like jamal is loosing him mojo. on a personal note I would not have to stay up all night to watch jj play since I am old and live in fl. send him back to Orlando please.

the better austin plays the better his contract looks. 3 year deal on a reasonable rate for a 24 yo who is really showing some signs of life. moving him right now should be extremely easy.

really, good luck. do you really think doc would trade Austin at this point. I hope he can continue to play well and help the clips but he has still not convinced me he is smart enough to be a first rate sg in the nba. however there are a lot of others in the same boat. I am sure if you went to other gm's you would get a interesting report. on a positive note, hopefully the clips can all be healthy at the right time and make a run then we will all be happy.

i don't think he would trade austin but we are talking about something else. you just said that the contract of austin rivers makes him difficult to trade, and you have been saying all along that he is a bad contract. and that's fine if you believe that, and i'm contesting that point.

but it's also a different thing from whether doc will trade him because he's his son, which is what you're now saying.

i should add it would be more accurate for me to say that moving him based on contract would be extremely easy if his last name weren't rivers.

Based on the teams upcoming three free agents and the difficulties that might pose, yes, trading JJ is a possible option with Austin's improvement, but there's a problem. It will be good teams that will desire JJ, not the bad teams. Good teams aren't likely to have any similar contracts which are longer that they want to trade for JJ who they will have to pay at least $16-17 million/year this upcoming off-season.

The other thing is that the target audience is teams needing shooting who are in the playoffs or trying to get there, so we're looking at:
Chicago
OKC
Memphis
Detroit

The other options are teams with a contract that they want to move and JJ''s expiring is a good trade for them. Not sure who that would be outside of Phoenix with Brandon Knight who we definitely do not want. I don't know if there are good trades out there for Redick unless the Clippers go the draft pick route.

at this point I think Austin is way over paid and would be difficult to move however if he can continue like the last 2 games then you have a good point. lets hope he continues. I believe the teams that og15 mentioned would be good for jj especially the ones with good pgs. cp3 has been a big reason for jj's success and needs someone willing to pass him the ball. he basically had a tough time in Orlando because howard refused to pass the ball to anyone and especially jj.
