Let's say you are independent and have a third party candidate in mind and Martin o malley as your second choice. O malley dropped out long after that deadline, so what happens? You're forced to vote for someone else? Heck, you can have o malley in mind period and he drops out by the time we get here. What if kasich is your second choice? You're screwed out of voting kasich. There's no reason why it needs to be like this

Exactly, we all should be able to vote for who we want to vote for in a primary. It is up to the Parties to provide us candidates which are "tamper" proof and then there is no need for this phony fear of infiltration from other parties. Lesser of the two evils is still evil when all is said and done.

It wasn't an issue this year (guys dropping out last minute). Only problem was people not knowing the rules. Change it IF / when that happens in NY. I'm done responding.

You can vote for anybody who runs in your party's primary. The problem is not being fooled into voting for a candidate from the other party - the concern is that the other part could run a candidate and then the other party votes in your primary for the candidate they want, and that guy wins. That's why the rule. Also, if a person doesn't like one party enough to register for them, then maybe they don't deserve a vote in that party and should start their own, if necessary.
