Hopefully Thomas Hatch and Mitch White are the next ones to be DFA.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread pt. 2
Cabrera throws 96 from the left side with a slider that generates whiffs on 46% of swings. The issue is that on the 54% of sliders that aren't whiffs, too many are either meatballs or well out of the zone, and his fastball is pretty wild.
There's a very good reliever in there potentially, and if we keep him in the minors for a couple weeks (imagine we will), then I believe you'd still have three years of team control remaining. Worth the price we gave up, which is very little.

So we made a decent trade, nice.

We've made a lot of decent trades honestly. The Matt Chapman trade in particular looks great in retrospect (Smith/Logue/Snead haven't done anything, and Gunnar Hoglund is having major health/performance issues unfortunately).
This one might amount to nothing, because many players with Cabrera's profile never figure it out. The ones that do are pretty electric though, and there's a reason that the Rays hoard such guys and consistently have an elite 'pen...clean up his mechanics just a tad or change the shape of his FB a little and you might have a high-end reliever from the left side.

Guess we are a week out until the trade deadline. Going to see more deals soon.

It's amazing how a few low games can really warp ones impression.
Did not expect we were the best in the AL over the past third of the season.

It's really the self inflicted wasting of multiple opportunities to win even more games that gets so frustrating. Basically we are being asked to trust the results but not the process lol. But I still believe a better process would deliver better results.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread pt. 2
That's just baseball, though. For years, the complaint was that we were an offense-heavy team that lacked pitching and defense and didn't win close games, and wouldn't survive in the playoffs. Now, the complaint is that we have pitching and defense and win close games, but we should be more offense-heavy. It'd be nice to simply dominate teams in all aspects for months on end but also pretty unrealistic, particularly in the East.
It would be great if the offense was firing on all cylinders, but I feel like it's worth noting that people are penciling us in to get destroyed by teams that, with the sole exception of the Orioles (who are fast approaching Showalterian levels of winneryness), have all been way more flawed. The Yankees are hitting .227/.293/.397 over the past two months, and it's not all the lack of Judge. The Rays have been in freefall since early May. The Red Sox...basically don't have a starting rotation. 14 guys have started for them and only 2 of their top 7 in starts on the year are currently on the active roster. Their rotation has an ERA of 4.79 on the year, which is atrocious.
Our issue is that we hit the ball hard at people too much, which is frustrating but also in large part simply bad luck. We're sixth in expected wOBA and there isn't a lot of historic grounding for teams that consistently underperform their contact rates, so the odds are that'll tick up at some point. Maybe the pitching with tick down at the same time, and then we can all get back to complaining that we're too focused on hitting and not enough on pitching and defense.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread pt. 2
Put another way: would our fans be losing their **** more or less if we replaced all of our results this season with the other AL East teams?
Orioles -- I think less, just based on recent results, but I'm not really sure. Their rotation isn't very good, their offense is solid but a bit inconsistent, and their defense is pretty bad. I'd imagine that there'd be a lot of calling us fake contenders given how much they're outperforming their expected record.
Rays -- team that was god tier in April and then played nearly three months of sub-.500 ball thereafter? Every day would be rending of garments over that massive choke job, particularly now that the Orioles have overtaken them.
Yankees -- they have been one of the worst offenses in baseball for a couple months now, and their rotation beyond Cole is massively underperforming. Wouldn't be a happy place.
Red Sox -- worst defense in baseball by a mile and one of the worst rotations (probably related really). Also a historically bad baserunning team...they just into a triple play on a routine fly ball tonight. Cannibalism is an absolute baseline.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread pt. 2
Could a 6-man rotation kill our bullpen even more???
We retain both Manoah and Kikuchi who will be prone to short outings,,, and we add Ryu who is not reliable for long appearances at this stage.... So, even though you are resting your starters with an extra day rest,,, your bullpen is answering the bell early at a greater frequency??

I don't see the need for a six-man rotation, but...our bullpen has faced fewer batters than all but four other teams.

Yankees have 11 players out that have missed 793 games including their MVP and 3 starting pitchers, Rays have 8 players out that have missed 556 games, including 4 starting pitchers.
I am pretty happy with our pitching and defence and hope that makes the difference in the playoffs, but our offence has really dropped off from previous years and really isn't good enough. If we want to contend we should be looking for one significant bat.
