Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread - Part Deux
Here's a follow up to the Teague trade:
NYK: Kendrick Perkins, Marvin Williams
OKC: $8.7m Traded Players Excpetion
UTA: Andrea Bargnani, OKC 2014 1st round pick.
Utah takes on an extra year with Bargs contract in exchange for a first round pick. NY is needed to create a traded players exception by taking Marvin Williams and Perkins. Williams is a better fit with the Knicks than Bargs as Williams, while he never lived up to the expectations, can be a nice 3 and D wing player who can also guard 4's. Williams would be a very nice fit with Melo. Perkins adds depth and vet leadership. It also opens up the opportunity to move Chandler for multiple future assets if the opportunity presented itself.
Chandler/Perkins/Tyler
Anthony/Martin/Stoudemire
Williams/Smith
Prigioni/Hardaway
Teague/Murry
The roster obviously lacks depth at small forward and shooting guard, but in the offseason you have the mid level to address that. Maybe roll the dice on Boobie Gibson or Rip Hamilton this year. Is this a championship team, probably not. But i think it puts us in the playoffs this year (although the 6 seed and a winnable series might be out of reach) and a realistic chance to win 55 games and the division next year without trading another future draft pick or risking the max slot in 2015.
I'd also consider this trade without the Teague trade. Williams is a better fit than Bargs with this team and Perkins leadership and toughness would be welcomed. There's really no room for both Bargs and Amare.

Perkins is the Ray Felton of centers. In fact, I'd actually be insulting Felton. Bargnani is a better C than Perkins is. Perkin's also owed nearly $18 million through the 2014-2015 season. Perkins is also reportedly not liked by his teammates and has had off court problems (how's punching a woman in the face and being charged with assault do for you?)...so not sure what leadership that's going to offer. No one in their right mind would trade for him unless the Thunder gives up some real serious incentives to do so...and a bottom of the barrel 1st rounder isn't exactly great incentive...especially if it allows the Thunder to go scott free and not have to even pay Perkins this year. This is a killing here for OKC. Not only would they get rid of Perkins' financial burden completely for just a bottom of the round 1st but they also get a trade exception that allows them to add a salary right now that can help them for this season without worrying about a tax hit.

Crazy 3-way
New York:
In - Gerald Wallace, Lowry and filler(from Toronto)
Out - Stat
Boston:
In - Stat
Out - Wallace and Rondo
Toronto:
In - Rondo
Out - Lowry and filler
We basically get the rental of Lowry by taking back the contract of Wallace and filler (Fields 2.0). Toronto would need to add a pick and maybe a young talent to make it happen. Is this completely off base? Would you take back Wallace for a potential rental of Lowry?

if we take wallace than get jeff green too.
but this plan just doesnt sound right.
wallace has worser contract than STAT's contract.
if we get him via trade we should be making a trade which make us contender.
lowry or rondo? i'll go for rondo. jeff green could be good with melo to.

Melo leaves $20m on the table but still makes $10m more than any other team could pay him. But assuming what he said at the all star game is true, this contract helps the Knicks while keeping him among the highest paid players in the game. Anyway:
Anthony: $20,000,000
Teague $8,000,000
Smith $6,400,000
Prigioni $1,740,000
Hardaway $1,305,000
2015 Draft pick $1,250,000 (assuming we have the 20th pick, or lower, with Teague, Melo, Smith and Chandler)
Total Committed Salary: $38,695,000
Minimum cap holds (6): $3,000,000
Effective Payroll Number: 41,695,000
Cap Space assuming $60,000,000 cap: $18,305,000.
Stretching JR Smith reduces his cap number from $6.4 to less than $2.2 million.
Point is the Teague for Shumpert/Felton deal makes us better today without hurting our future position. The only risk is that Shumpert may end up being a better player than Teague. However, Shump needs a change of scenery and Teague has proven he can be a starting PG on a team that wins consistently. Sure, they never won a championship but they didn't' have a championship roster. If they can get this trade done they need to do it.
Solid post but I think a few changes need to be made (feel free to correct me if I said anything inaccurate)
1. If Melo starts at $20 mil a year this summer, wouldnt it be a slightly more by the summer after next?
2. Prigioni is unguaranteed contract and I could see him retiring or going back home either way. We can probably not pick up his last year if the numbers get too tight (he will be old anyways).
3. Cap space will be minimum 62 million that summer from what I read.
Overall, if we factor in these three things, we'll probably have around ~20mil capspace (even more if we stretch JRs contract. not sure the exact details on how that works)
PG: Teague
SG: Hardaway JR.
SF: Melo (not sure if he can play this position anymore though lmao)
PF: Love
C: 2015 pick
6th Man: Someone with remaining Cap Space (around $4.5mil)
7th Man: JR Smith
8th Man: mini-MLE

I'd trade Garbagenani for Perkins in a nanosecond, he's infinitelly better than him and allows the lowest FG% at the rim. And he's a leader.

Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread - Part Deux
just do these trade dolan and save knicks !
hou receives: okafor+udrih+1 first round from phx+2 second round from phx and new york
phx receives: t.chandler
nyk receives: lin+asik
houston would have 15m expiring and first round picks. with 15m expirin this year they could add another star to go along with harden-parsons-t.jones-howard core.
nyk desperatly needs asik as a defensive anchor. second year contract sucks but knicks can afford it.
phx needs some interior strength and they're in win now mode. chandler has some injuries but pxh staff are best in the league. i remember their healing to shaq. they can use chandler and they need him for playoff race and playoff.
nyk recieve rondo+green+g.wallace
bos receive felton+shumpert+STAT+2018 1st round
bos: cap relief, get rid of g.wallace. get 1st round and shumpert. there isnt to much team to rondo want to go.
nyk: we need rondo like star to keep melo in ny.
rondo/lin/prig
jr/thjr/lin
green/melo/wallace
melo/wallace/tyler/bargs
asik/tyler/bargs
this team would be contender. it surronds melo very well.
top 3 point guard for offense. good perimeter defender.
top 5 rim protector like asik
athletic wing players like green+wallace is good for defense as well.
thats a dream team for melo. only missin piece is coach. get jvg-hollins-pjack-thibs-svg and we would make finals at least.

this needs at least 3 ball for offense.
and at defense it would be like allstar game...
melo isnt bad when he plays 4. but when he plays small forward he's not that aggressive defender.
k.love just sucks on defense.
hardaway... teague isnt that good without horford likes on inside.
2015 pick for center. i'm watching this league more than 10 years and i dont remember too much centers come from draft and make big impact on their first years. it takes time to develop.
i dont like this team defense. get rid of 15 pick trade with asik.

I know you have strong hate for Bargnani but "infinitely worse" than Perkins? Perkins is the worst starting center in the league. A good coach might actually be able to put Bargnani in situations that favor him. I'd run Bargnani at center before Perkins any time.

1) The contract could be structured with raise after years 2, 3 and 4 only. Year 1: $20m, Year 2: $20m, Year 3: $21.5m, Year 4: 23.1m, Year 5, which would be a player option: $24.8m. 5 years, $109 million.
2) If Pablo's deal isn't guaranteed, all the better. Replace his $1.7m sal with a 500k min hold
3) They have been predicting $60m for a while but the cap is still around $58.5m So i'm using 60 as a round number. Regardless, the point is the Knicks could absorb Jeff Teague's $8m salary and still have a max slot available.
Lastly, Melo and Kevin Love is an absolutely horrible fit. Melo is a tweener, he's undersized for the 4 and slow for the 3. He is best when, like Lebron and Durant, the team has the option to play him at the 3 or the 4. The problem with Kevin Love is he can't player center like Bosh or Ibaka can.

I know you have strong hate for Bargnani but "infinitely worse" than Perkins? Perkins is the worst starting center in the league. A good coach might actually be able to put Bargnani in situations that favor him. I'd run Bargnani at center before Perkins any time.
Perkins has more value to a team than Bargnani. He has two things he's elite at, defense and setting screens. Bargnani is not good at anything.

My proposal was swapping Barganani for Marvin Williams which I think is a great move for the Knicks. Williams is exactly the kind of guy you want next to Melo - he can guard 3's and 4's and shoots 40% from 3. Taking on Perkins contract is the cost of moving Bargnani. There are no minutes for Bargnani on the roster when Amare's healthy. They both do the same thing.

He's good at jumping from the foul line and falling on his face and breaking his elbow. he's done it twice in 2 years.

Can people stop with the f-in Lin stuff already?!!?!?
Carmelo does not like Lin and Carmelo is calling the shots here.
Lowry or Teague are both much better then Lin also.
