Yeah the roll out of this has been weird from a PR standpoint.

Maybe Lillard is trying to negotiate something with Blazers brass, either a move they could make for him to stay, or to get to a preferred destination without too much drama.

If he leaves he really should go to an immediate contender not someplace like NYK, otherwise what's the point. PHX could make sense to replace CP. Philly, GSW, Clips, Miami?, Dallas?, of course Lakers name will be involved. MKE of course should talk, best we can do though is Jrue, DDV, Nwora+ any picks we can trade

I'm gonna wait for some more concrete information to come out, but if it's true, dude has 4-years and $200 million left on his contract. Like, where does the NBA even go from here? The next CBA is gonna be a **** show.

Probably a pain to live in Portland right now.

I figure we can put together a package starting with DJ Wilson.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and wait til it's Haynes, Woj, or Shams reporting it, but if he does end up requesting a trade, it's gonna get nuts. With that many years left on his deal, teams that aren't necessarily on his desired list of destinations (I'm thinking Minnesota, New Orleans, Chicago, Toronto, etc.) will be pursuing him strongly IMO in addition to the obvious candidates (GSW, Knicks, Miami, LA, etc.)

What can the league really do to stop this kind of stuff? Not a retorical question, I'm curious is anyone has ideas because I can't really think of any.

Honestly this off-season has already been a complete PR disaster for Portland so they might as well just say no to Dame if they don't love any of deals put there. Sure some in the media will bash them but that's going to happen regardless.

I've long advocated for a franchise tag in the NBA, but for this specific situation? I'm not really sure what you can do. I think this might actually be a ploy by Lillard to pressure the Blazers into making a major shakeup move (trading McCollum and picks for an All-Star caliber guy) like we did with Jrue. At the end of the day it's on ownership to realize that they have the leverage here, but Houston also had all the leverage with Harden and look how that turned out. Don't think that Lillard is the kind of guy to completely sabotage the organization like Harden did, but you just never know with any of these superstars nowadays. If they have a specific destination in mind, odds are they'll maneuver themselves there eventually (Kawhi, PG, Lebron, AD).

I really hope he doesn’t request a trade; I work with a lot of people in Portland and sort of see the Blazers as my West team. It’s kind of a cluster **** over there right now. They are getting hammered for lying about how they handled the review into Billups’ background and I’m guessing the atmosphere is dark.

I feel bad for the Portland fans.

It is kind of funny that the national media seemed to fawn over Portlands off-season moves the past couple years and I never understood why. I feel like David Griffin gets that same treatment.

All this just makes me feel so damn lucky to have a guy like Giannis. He's basically the last bulwark against this entire era of superstar entitlement, errr, I mean "empowerment"...

Not sure how anyone can blame Damian if he wants out. He's 31 and on a team with no obvious path to contention. He's not good enough to make a team an auto-contender like a LeBron or Giannis. I wish the Bucks had the assets to get him.

Don't get me wrong, yea I agree.

Buuut, basically Dame has been the same thing so far in his career and clearly talked against superstar teams, etc. But here we are, guy is 31/32, clock is ticking. But let's say MKE loses this year, and don't get too close the next 2-4 years, Giannis will probably be doing the same thing and I won't blame him.

With all the trash Dame has talked against super teams and loyalty maybe his middle ground move will be to go to a Knicks type team. He gets a shake up to the Eastern Conf but also not going to join up with 2 other superstars. To me, if I'm gonna be a 'bad guy' and make this demand, might as well go all the way and make sure you do all you can to get those ringz. But to each their own. In the same vein though would be going to MKE (if we lose). Sure you're joining Giannis, but it's only one superstar and its a small market that hasn't won in 50 years, you're trying to get the little guy over the hump so to speak. Basketballwise, MKE really is probably his best fit. Kind of a middle ground to not go full heel.

It sucks for teams that you can sign a star like Lillard to such a massive contract, and he can still demand a trade. That’s in theory, how you make a guy happy (massive, multi year contract).

But I also get that your peak performance is relatively short, so I have no problem with Lillard wanting better teammates.

What makes no sense, is if its true that he wants to play for the Knicks. They will give all their future picks, be even worse than the Blazers, and Coach Thibbs will play him till his knees turn in to Kemba Walker.

Depends how forceful his request is. He resigned partly for loyalty to Portland and it would look bad if they traded him and he didn't want to be traded. If says trade me to only GSW/NYK or I'm sitting out, that would ruffle some feathers. This seems like a mutual breakup and hopefully Portland can rebuild and Dame gets on a playoff team

Gonna be really mad if he ends up in Philly for Simmons+. That could be a monster problem for us, especially if they get a different coach lol
