The Superman Dunk was not a dunk.

And how am I embarassing myself? By stating my opinion on this "dunk"? I don't see myself as pwned for it was not a dunk. I would be so pissed of if I was in a dunk contest and got beat by a throw-in ( Even though Dwight would've won without the superman "dunk" because he is that good)

(for my recent involvement)
A) You tried to use a dictionary quote to show it was a layup and a dunk, for which I've found 2 entries which amplified the meaning to show the difference between a dunk and layup. You've ignored that.
The Reader's Digest recap: A layup is from underneath the rim. A dunk is from above.
B) Next you claimed that the ball was at the level of the rim, and therefore was a layup. To which I provided visual evidence to disprove it. You've provided zero counterarguments for this.
**
If you want to classify it a throw, Dwight most certainly did a throw-down and not a throw-in. For a vast majority, a throw-down is a equivalent to a dunk.

Quite the understatement after 28 pages
I can be the same way at times, just ask dingbys (I think that was his username) about our thread re Francis several years ago.

What are you talking about? You know full well that we would never go on for pages arguing?
Go ahead mention Otis as a good Gm. I dare you. I double dare you.

Obviously NOT a dunk technically. But an amazing shot and it would have been stupid to discount it.
According to some arguing here if you stood at the three point line on top of a 10 foot platform and threw the ball down at the basket it would be a dunk. If you were 12 feet tall would every shot you take be a dunk?
A dunk is when you force the ball through the hoop from above. Literally force it through....Not force it towards the basket and let gravity take over. Thats what Dwight did.
The thrust argument was the best...think about it, when you are thrusting your girl do you get 2 feet away and throw your dick into her? Hell no, you use your body to thrust that bad boy all the way in there.
I also would like to mention that random websites and wikipedia are not legitimate sources for anything and looking up the word dunk in a dictionary is weird in general.

Well its fitting that as we rap up this thread we have a winner for the stupidest post. In essence we shouldn't use dictionaries if we want to know what a word means
Um nope, well pass on your lunacy. The dictionaries have spoken. if you throw it down through tha basket the dictionaries collectively say its a dunk so its a dunk and of course you example is nonsense because you are not allowed to dunk from a ladder no matter where it is and completely invalidates the comparison to Dwight's dunk.
To all future posters to this thread - Spare yourself further embarassment. No one will make any headway in fighting the dictionary meaning of dunk until they prove they have more authority than the dictionaries and none of you can do that.
Incidentally why is it you can always tell when a guy doesn't get action very often by the way he talks about getting action. Its always a dead give away its not a normal event for him.

Then unfortunately, your dictionary calls sky-hooks "dunks."
I doubt you'd find as many people in other forums that would classify throwing the ball through the hoop a dunk. Still, fun to watch, but this is called the SLAMDUNK contest. There was no dunk and certainly no SLAM on a throw in.

sky hooks (and other types of hook shots) go up before they come down, you know, kinda like the shape of I dunno...a hook.

How many sky hooks are thrown down in such manner?
How many sky hooks are done by running towards the rim?
How many sky hooks are done with caps and with Superman logo on his chest?
Actually my dictionary (answers) says : "gently throws the ball with a sweeping motion of his arm in an upward arc with a follow-through which ends over his head" for hook. This hardly matches what Dwight did.
The same page says this for dunk:
A slam dunk (or simply a dunk) is a type of basketball shot that is performed when a player jumps in the air and manually powers the ball through the basket with one or both of his hands, then often grabs the rim shortly after the ball passes through the hoop
Often != always.
