Look at the Hong Kong situation. These guys are nothing but talk.

HK/China always gets brought up but it isn't really fair to NBA players. I wish they would speak out against all injustice but it isn't their responsibility. It is understandable why some young black men in America want to speak out against injustice towards.... young black men in America, but choose not to dabble in foreign affairs which some of them probably have no connection to or understanding of. Especially when some of them have directly experienced that injustice themselves.

Sure, some of it may be money/greed. But they also just relate to some issues more.

Yeah they cared right up until someone ran the numbers for LeBron last night

I get it. Don't let the door hit me...., but there seems to be a narrative that only MAGAers who don't care about basketball anyway are annoyed about how political everything has become. I don't like Trump or politics in general and am a true NBA fan that has no interest in returning.

Wouldn't be surprised if the NFL is next, but they have a much better product so it won't hurt them as much. NBA is on its way to becoming the NHL.
So, basically, you want them to "shut up and dribble"? Gotcha. It goes without saying, that that's a messed up position. These players have a voice, they should use it.

You’re not the only one, the NBA’s ratings have dropped significantly. First the China virus hurt them but now with all this kneeling during the anthem and disrespecting the country they dug themselves a bigger hole. On top of that they go and boycott for no reason at all.

Many Americans are turned off by this and will not be watching anymore. The NBA is going to take a huge hit over all this. Owners are already losing money from no fans in arenas, now they’re losing fans interest. This will cause players to also lose money. NBA needs to change their ways and don’t involve politics at all. Who are they to tell us who to vote for??Basketball and sports in general has always united people, all this is doing is dividing. On this bulls thread we should be discussing how much the bulls suck right now not this stuff.

Kneeling during the anthem IS NOT DISRESPECTING THE COUNTRY. That rhetoric has to go. Kap was told by a veteran that kneeling would be the most respectful way to handle his PEACEFUL protest. It quite literally isn't disrespectful in any way, shape or form to our country or to our flag. PERIOD.

Do you think we will ever get the real scoop on LeBron’s 180?

He led the vote to cancel the season and led the walkout at the players meeting yesterday. Then he wakes up today and votes they should play and stays silent in the meeting?

I think they pretty intentionally don't tell anyone who to vote for. Just to go out and vote. But it is inferred, sure.

Meh, that’s true for issue but not the NBa. To me, and I’m guessing others, it’s like “oh they just moved the game to Friday. I’ll watch it then.”

Boycotting the season by a team, significant players or the league is he only thing that would get real notice. If the Bucks just refused to play going forward, or Harden specifically left the bubble, then the message would have more value

At a time when more people are at home during the day than recently ever, viewership ratings for sports should arguably be at an all-time high, but they're not. Even the boring but apolitical PGA is outperforming these BLM-supporting sports.

These NBA team boycotts are making headlines, but most people don't care in they way that would compel them to watch in the first place.

In fairness to that point golf is having a huge resurgence on all levels since Covid. Huge increase in women and children players and a lot more business outings because other forms of entertainment are gone. With higher interest in playing more people are watching too. I am sure that BLM on the NBA broadcast is alienating a group of people but I don’t think that is the majority reason.

Man, I'm with you. We can avoid reality as long as we have people in our lives who agree with us.

These upstart athletes, they've gotta do what they're told and stand up for the flag at all times!

Stand up for illegal, never-ending wars!
Stand up for a corporate class stripping the wealth from the working class!
Stand up for mass shootings every week!
Stand up for never-ending police brutality!
Stand up for systematic racism!

Yay! God Bless America! Show your respect and be a mindless slave to patriotism like the rest of us!

I really hate politics in sport.

I mean, who the hell do these guys think they are? The social contract is that they make a good living after generating wealth for their employers, so they can forego their right to being human beings with opinions! It's not rocket science - no one wants to hear you talk unless you're answering a question about your next contract.

Us reasonable people just want to watch sport and forget about politics while millions die without healthcare, while police use people of colour as target practice!

If I want to think about other people's problems while I'm watching sport, I'd talk to my wife.

People that step outside of the box I've placed them in and ask me to think about something outside of what I'm having for dinner or which car I'm going to buy next are the absolute worst.

Many Americans feel the same way.

If you're calling it the "China Virus" then I'm quite sure you wouldn't understand the player's reasoning for the temporary boycott....

That last sentence I definitely feel you there. Like I just read an article a few hours ago about how Deni said his favorite NBA team was always The Chicago Bulls and he would love to play here. Hes basically giving us the Michael Porter jr treatment of telling our FO, "PLEASE DRAFT ME". All the pro-Deni guys on the this board should be going bonkers in the draft thread by now

Every major news outlet in America was calling it the "China virus" (or some variation of that) for months until the WHO, at the behest of China, said it was xenophobic to do so.

Even newscasters in Wuhan call it the "Wuhan flu."
Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

I have no idea what you are talking about. I never heard the term "China Virus" until Trump himself and his Fox News circus started pushing it. I certainly read plenty about a scary emerging virus in the Wuhan province, but it was always labelled CoVID-19 or sars-cov-2.

NYT, WaPo, and many other outlets were calling it the "Wuhan virus" or "Wuhan coronavirus" at least until March.
