Maxey likewise does not strike me as being blazing fast, but am I wrong in attributing to him that talent to find the open spot and the timing to cut to the basket? I think he’s got the knack to develop into an efficient scoring machine.HotelVitale wrote: he was kind of herky jerky.
I don't know, I think of Maxey's skill as more his ability to race into gaps and get a shot off within them. That in and of itself could describe a junk player though--someone who ballstops and jacks up tough shots or plays too fast, etc. Since Maxey's not very big or athletic--even compared to someone like Fultz--I think his key is sort of mastering space and small gaps; i.e. in the NBA he's not going to get to ideal spots all the time (big man will cut him off outside the lane, the pn'r will be well defended, etc), so how is he able to still make use of the smaller gaps the defense gives him in those situations? Can he become awesome at quick pull-ups/floaters, or develop great timing and vision on passes (like CP3), or manipulate the defense while hunting driving gaps (like Mitchell or SGA), or even just hit enough shots and bait fouls like Lou Will? He has potential to develop some of those skills, but he's not starting off being particularly good (or at least NBA good) at any of them, and he's not starting off with any physical/athletic advantages, so his game will all a big question mark to me. He's shown enough ability and instinct for that to know it's possible but not enough to know he's going to be able to bank on any of it. My guess is he'll be able to do some but probably not all of those things, no idea if he'll be good enough at them to be a decent or good player but it'll be fun to watch.
