TBH I am surprised we didn't have more upsets. With no time to prepare for this tournament, I was expecting a lot of randomness, even worse than what we had in 2002.

Yeah sure, dude played in the Copa America Final, he scored an won.

Played in the Champions League final, he scored and won.

11 goals in 14 ElClasico played.

Win or go home matches against Korea and England (scored twice playing rushing back from knee injury playing at 50%) in the WC, scored and won. Hes a winner. 13 WC matches, 9 wins. WC is by far the most important competition and were you cement your legacy.

Prime Suarez from '13-'17 was by far better than prime Lewandowski. Solo goals, halfline goals, freekicks, 3rd player in history with most assists, only player to win Golden Boot (twice) in CR7 and Messi primes. Top PL scorer and top assister at the same time playing in a mediocre Liverpool team.

He was subpar in the last years in Barcelona, specially in Champions League away games. He was past his prime because of injuries and Barcelona was already a very disfunctional team. They havent been any better after he left.

How do you explain Suarez’s poor Champions League record? You think Peak Suarez is 13-14 Liverpool I assume. 31 goals. 22 against the bottom half. 9 against the top half. 0 against the top four, disappeared in all six games against the rest of the top four. Peak Suarez was great but to suggest that he’s a level above Lewandowski or that it doesn’t even merit a conversation is wrong.

In '15 at his peak he scored against Man City, PSG in the knockout stages and Juve in the Final and won the Champions League. It was his first fair chance to win the CL.

He also scored against Atl Madrid in '16, but they lost. He scored against Liverpool in'18, Roma '19 and Bayern '20, but they lost. Guess what? Messi also didn't score in most of those away games, but nobody says hes not the GOAT or at least top 5 all time. That was already a very disfunctional Barca team.

Also scored in the historic comeback against PSG in '17 and was fouled for a penalty.

He scored 11 ElClasico goals, including a hatrick without Messi and Neymar.

He has 7 WC goals.

He has several goals against all the PL top 4. And he didn't play much at his prime there and his team was not top 4 material.

It's blasphemy to say he didn't bring it against top clubs or in big moments.

And all this without saying he's top 3 in assits in football history, unlike Lewa, his game is not just about scoring goals, Suarez was the definition of a complete striker.

Suarez vs Lewa is a pretty good debate. Nothing wrong with picking Suarez who was definitely better all-around but it's not clear-cut. Lewa did score 69 goals in a calendar year and set a whole bunch of Bundesliga records. He's also a better CL performer IMO.

Speaking of great scorers, is Haaland ever going to play the WC during his career or does Norway not have anyone else to field a strong team?

Looks like Norway wasn't in the last Euros either.

He will definitely play in a World Cup during his career imo.

Japan has a fairly decent squad. That's not a cakewalk.

And German defense besides Rüdiger is a joke.

Raum, Süle, Kehrer...these guys are basically slalom poles.
And Schlotterbeck is always giving away penalties for free.

This Croatia vs Morocco game hasn't been that great to be fair, I thought it would be slightly more entertaining.

Slept through the 0-0 this morning. Glad I didn’t appear to miss much.

Looking forward to seeing if Japan can hold their own vs Germany

So far your assessment of Germany's defenders is true lol, other than Rudiger they look pretty shaky.

Japan had been defending admirably up until that blatant penalty foul. Deserved lead though

If Japan can compose themselves in the German final third they would've scored by now. They've had the ball in promising positions when they've got forward.

Side note - I've never been impressed by Kubo every time I've seen him play, he looks like he lacks any sort of physicality and gets knocked off the ball pretty easily.
