Fred Katz breaking down the Precious situation and why we might wait until the deadline. It's nothing new but I didn't know we could combine salaries up to 12 mil for a trade

Pair Achiuwa with whomever they sign for the midlevel exception, and the Knicks could execute a deadline deal that would trade away zero players from their top eight and bring back someone who makes up to $12 million-ish. Because they don’t have the salaries for it at the moment, the Knicks couldn’t build a trade like that today.
Throw in another minimum-salaried player, and they could make offers in January or February for Richaun Holmes ($12.6 million), Robert Williams III ($12.4 million), Wendell Carter Jr. ($12 million) or Ivica Zubac ($11.7 million). They could flip Achiuwa and draft compensation for Nick Richards ($5 million) or Day’Ron Sharpe ($4 million).

Um, how do you know what they're doing?
Were they not taking the forward and wing positions seriously when they surprised you and the rest of us by dealing for OG and then later for Bridges?
Go ahead and tell us you knew those deals were about to drop
Since you can't, don't pretend you know nothing is going on behind the scenes and they're not taking their jobs seriously. Of course they're exploring their options for adding center depth. The only certainty is you have no idea what they're up to just like every one of us

It wasn't too long ago that NYs FO seemed to always be in the rear of league wide trends. Cap/player/orgazational creativity & ingenuity came from other front offices.
Under Rose NY has become one of the forward thinking FO's that others around the league emulate.
Thanks Leon & Wes.
I must admit when the Rose & Wes pairing was floated it's not that I didn't think they' could do it. Its more I never imagined they'd do it this way. I figured a former CAA head and street influencer pair and it'd be like the Jay-Z Brooklyn blueprint. Instead they went the Harvard route with Brock Aller & leaning heavily into analytics.
The shock was the analytics route was less "sexy" and required something the Knicks hadn''t shown for 20yrs. Organizational discipline. The Knicks that I had come to know talked the long game but always made the short play "win now" .

Riley would rather shoot himself than make a trade with us, but Bam would be the most perfect piece possible to this team.

The crazy thing is this group signaled the "we're gonna use our connections to get big stars" meathead approach really hard but then were like "psyche! We're the biggest group of nerds in the league. We're identifying breakout candidates and good fits and we're winning now so we'll just keep doing it thanks." It's the most unexpected left turn for this franchise and I'm 100% here for it.

No. The Knicks can't take back more in salary than they send out.
(The Heat are in the same situation, which is why Handle and Mitch straight up for Bam doesn't work.)

Re: Trades and Transactions Thread Cont'd - Where the Center At?
LOL.... Randle for Lauri Markannen and Kessler still in play. Randle might be flipped for picks, so need third and maybe 4th team because Ainge is looking for picks. Just have to wait until August 3rd I believe because signed draft picks can only be traded then.
Hint: when has Leon rose ever selected an 18 yr old in the first round or second round of the nba draft since they've been in management? That most likely means that pacome dadiet is probably going to get traded.

This could work if we resign Precious to be Randle's backup, sparing him from playing 45 minutes a game.

Maybe Houston? Houston is starving to put themselves on the map. We also know Utah brought in Dadiet for a workout....

The human brain is a helluva drug.
I kind of actually miss clicking this board to read posts like that. Two+ decades of fan imagination running wild on how to make the bad Knicks good.
Personally, I’ve come around on Randle and think he’s a great fit. No need to invent creative scenarios to satisfy my bias against him or boredom/dread of being a diehard fan of a permanently bad team.
