Well he’s an attacking and scoring PG. That’s what he’s great at. If you have Allen Iverson on your team you don’t tell him to go out there and pretend like he’s a pass first PG you tell him to go score points and pass when it’s available

This fanbase is infatuated with a player like Kolek who will get 8 assists and 0 points because I guess that’s more savvy or whatever than Brunson scoring 34 points. And I say this as someone whose favorite players were Jason Kidd and Rondo. But when you have a great player who can score like Brunson the strategy is to take advantage of that and lean in your strengths, not try to fit a square peg in a round hole and tell him to stop shooting and try to be something he’s not
That is who Brunson is and people celebrate that then people complain that Thibs is not forcing him to not be him and move the ball and run plays for KAT, Mikal and OG.

Bur never mind Buzz. He's deep in a tired ol schtick.

This is the system. Period, ITS NOT who Brunson is. It's free for all most of the time with some actions sprinkled in but, no real offense. Just do what the game tells you. Brunson isn't out there costing us games being selfish. This entire discussion is ridiculous. Dude dropped 17 dimes in a game he scored 39 in IIRC.

BEST PG SINCE CLYDE!!

Imagine being prophet and calling Brunson selfish all the time when he’s a scoring point and implementing Thibs system

Brunson has weaknesses but your consistent insinuation that he's a selfish player isn't fair. He's not an elite passer. He's elite in iso situations and at drawing the defense, protecting the ball, and making the right reads/plays but I'd have Kolek and Hart as better pure passers on the team. Towns at some facets. He's not great at feeding the post, throwing the lob, and his passing creativity isn't that high. He mostly makes basic reads and is decent in the PnR. So he shouldn't usually be playing the Rajon Rondo or John Stockton role unless easy passes are available to him.

the only nuance i'd point out is that he, like any ball dominant offensive star, needs to stay disciplined about his shot selection. running hail mary jumpers at the top of the shotclock aren't part of the high IQ brunson bag that we've come to love. it's not that he shouldn't be aggressive and treating himself as the primary option. it's just that if the shot isn't there, moving the ball is better than throwing away the possession

Totally fair.

But people are expecting him to be CP3 when he's Charlie Ward with Kobe's bag.

Would love to see him go 4-6 from downtown in game 2. We really can’t afford to have him be a non factor in that second unit offensively.

I think we can survive this series with deuce being a nonfactor on offense as long as his defense holds up. Brunson will go nuclear a few games and kat and og will remain consistent. We just need one of mikal, jHart, shamet, cam to show out and we should be fine. But moving forward we need him to get his sht together.

Love the take that Brunson is a visionary point guard who refuses to pass because he chooses to hoist shots because he’s selfish OR that Thibs forces him to. He’s a score first point guard with ok vision who is a willing passer for that type of player. But alas, it’s year three so some posters have to create a narrative around him. Probably disgruntled Randlestans upset that the same was done to Randle.
Horrible people pretending to occupy the moral high ground.

I remember being in my 20s and making fun of Jennifer connelly's eyebrows and one of my older friends disgustedly called me a fcking idiot for talking sht about a baddie over something stupid like eyebrows. Point is, thats what this brunson slander reminds me of. Its ridiculous nitpicking of a baddie.

That's fair and fine. He is selfish. He looks for himself first. Luka is selfish. MJ was selfish. Kobe. AI.

It is a strength and a weakness. He is not immune from criticism. People complaining about the lack of pick and rolls, the slowness of the offence, the lack of KAT touches, etc are blaming JB without wanting to.

It was DET throwing haymakers at him and getting away with a lot of physicality. Then Jalen figured out how to beat them at it and he went nuclear in the second half. Him and Cam dropped 25 in the 4th quarter together. His ankle clearly isn't 100% but, that was only part of it.

Selfish bum.

A summary of some of the top plays from KAT

0:11 - KAT gets doubled in the post, has all 5 Pistons looking at him and coming closer, and then he passes out to OG for the three

0:23 - KAT slips and his guy almost gets past him, but KAT catches up and blocks his shot from behind

0:41 - KAT helps OG on Cade and causes a turnover, leading to OG taking it to the hoop

0:52 - Josh passes to KAT at the 3pt line, KAT has someone right up on him. KAT patiently makes a read and makes a quick pass to Shamet who is cutting to the hoop.

1:14 - KAT gets the ball at the 3pt line and KAT bullies his way into the paint for the hoop

1:32 - KAT gets the ball at the wing and knocks down a quick middy with the defender right on him

1:44 - KAT successfully challenges Cade's jumper without fouling him

1:55 - KAT gets the ball close to the corner three. KAT has Cade coming at him from one side with Duren waiting for him at the hoop. KAT takes it to the hoop, they couldn't stop him.

2:26 - Brunson sets KAT up with the ball in the mid range where KAT has Tobias guarding him. KAT bullies Tobias one on one, gets to the paint and gets to the hoop.

2:41 - KAT helps OG again with Cade, leading to another turnover on Cade

2:50 - Tobias is caught guarding KAT again one on one (though Tim Hardaway Jr is looking and waiting to help from the side). KAT abuses hiTobias again, this time with a turnaround jumper

3:00 - KAT helps Josh defending under the hoop, KAT blocks the shot and gets possession of the ball, passes it to Brunson, and then Brunson passes it to Josh who goes to the hoop and scores

3:26 - Josh goes to the hoop but passes it back to a trailing KAT for the hoop

3:34 - KAT gets the ball at the top of the key. KAT makes a read, then decides to drive on Isaiah Stewart who can't guard him either.

3:44 - Cade is guarding KAT with Duren about to help. KAT hits a jumper fading away towards out of bounds.

3:53 - KAT gets space to hit a three with the help from a screen Deuce attempts to set

4:25 - KAT once again helps Josh inside, KAT forces the miss and gets the rebound

4:30 - KAT is guarding his guy who is trying to get open to receive the inbound pass, KAT steals the ball on the inbound. KAT passes to Josh who is on the break, Josh passes it back to Brunson for the hoop.

4:42 - KAT picks up Cade, blocks his pass and steals the ball from him. KAT once again passes it to Josh on the break who then passes to Brunson for the hoop

4:55 - KAT successfully boxes out for the rebound off a missed three

5:02 - KAT recognizes Josh calling for the ball at the top of the key, KAT passes it to Josh and Josh drives to the hoop

5:10 - KAT successfully challenges a drive to the hoop and he gets the rebound

5:20 - Brunson passes to KAT, KAT fakes it like he is going to shoot, but KAT instead passes to Josh who is under the hoop

5:28 - Payne gets the ball to KAT behind the 3pt line at the wing. KAT goes right, and it doesn't matter that Cade helps, KAT can't be stopped.

5:49 - KAT once again finds Josh for an easy hoop
I'd love to see more KAT entries at the high post like Joalim Noah. Have him be the hub and the other Knicks cut off him. He has the passing chops and shooting touch for it.

In fact Nova's 4 out offence would be perfect for this team.

That’s what we on tonight?

If they lost you’d blame him for not going to the obvious answer Cam Payne?

Or do you appreciate the adjustment?

You kinda need your players to score, thats how it works. Nobody says DeAndre Hunter scored 14 and saved Atkinson lol

What I’m trying to say is, had we played Mitch more and Hart less, we wouldn’t have Been in that situation, but you’re both right, a w is a w so I’ll take it

Nobody is expecting him to be CP3. Nobody has ever said that. That is a ridiculous strawman argument. And CP3 chokes the life out of the ball , too. He just gives you the grenade pass instead of shooting. I just want him to get off the ball more and play faster so we can incorporate everybody.
