Does Marquette benefit more next year by a NCAA Round of 64/68 exit or a deep NIT run? Hypothetically speaking.

I think a majority would take a tournament bid if given that option. I think people hang their hat on tournament entries over NIT titles unless it is a serious springboard to future success.

I guess if you could guarantee a NIT championship, you'd just take that. But since you can't you might as well take your NCAA bid, the round of 68 is obviously very winnable and you shouldn't be too much of a huge dog in a 12/5 type match-up. Certainly have a shot there. Then who knows, pull off one larger upset and you're in the Sweet 16.

Plus, I would rather have the you players experience the NCAAs where the pressure/spotlight is larger than in the NITs

Don’t know if winning a nail biter against DePaul actually helped them last night. Win tonight and they’re in, lose and sweat it out on Sunday.

I agree, I think they need to win tonight. Lunardi still has them in the first 4 out as of today.

Now that the NCAA is measuring wins by this tier system, tonight is a must win.....got to figure MU is up against schools like ND, OK, OK-State...etc.

100% NCAA. Rowsey leading them to meaningless wins does nothing. The young guys realizing how much harder the NCAA is will be more important.

There is never an instance when you would not want to make the NCAA. Your players get more experience and the thrill of being in the tournament, your program gets more exposure, and your conference and thus your school gets more money from the tournament pool.

Being a MU thread I will point out never is not an appropriate word since one coach did say FU to the NCAA

Rowsey both lead Marquette to that win and would have been partially responsible had they lost. He's such an exasperating player to watch.

He can get on fire and make shots from anywhere on the court. He also can take bad shots, make awful turnovers, and kill ball movement as he completely dominates the ball hunting for shots.

There have been to many games like yesterday where Rowsey thrills you as he rains threes and then the offense stagnates because he either is forcing up shots or makes brutal turnovers, while the rest of the team stands around watching him dominate the ball.

I don't get how Oklahoma still seems safely in. 4-11 in their last 15 games. Do they all want Trae Young in the tournament so badly?

I think they kinda did away with the "last 10 games" criteria 5 or so years ago. But their resume is no longer very good and all of the recent losses should be visible regardless to the committee. I think they'd be out.

Palm has them as his very last team in. Bama just beat A&M on a buzzer beater though, and are in the FF Out.

Can't imagine a nail biter to beat dePaul and a (potential) double digit loss tonight is enhancing their chance.

MU is going to be so much better next year, especially if they can convince Howard to become an all around guard

I think the “Marquette can beat anyone” axiom needs to have an “at home” addendum. On road/neutral floors against current top 10s Nova, X, and Wichita, they went 0-4 losing by an average margin of 16. They gave up 80 in all four games, and 90 in three.

Losing Rowsey will be like addition by subtraction. Playing two chucking small guards simultaneously hurt them more than helped them. Howard is the better prospect anyway....he even passes off from time to time.

Yeah I never completely really endeared myself to Rowsey either.

Exactly they both are great offensive players but together they hardly play good at the same times and are terrible on defense...Rowsey is so fun to watch but I'm not shedding any tears watching him go
