Trust me this is a burner account

Only way Messina, or any other Spurs coach, considers the Raptors is if Kawhi is actually not considering to remain with their franchise or his injury will cause him to drop in play.

Pop is nearly done with coaching.

Exposure? and maybe it’s something regarding Kawhi. A coach coming in under contract for 3-5 years with this core (which will remain here for another 2 years) is not a better situation as having Kawhi heading into 2020.

Dont worry, I will quote/refer back to this when he gets hired as the next Head Coach of the Toronto Raptors in 2-Max 4 business days.

I don’t like Mike Brown. He’s still better than Casey. Regardless, he has interviewed a few guys and he has not hired any one of them. This is not a free agent that we’re interested in. This is a much more simple process. Therefore, it tells me he has yet to actually interview who he’s interested in hiring. Coaches contracts are pretty much set with the standards.

i guarantee u mike brown will not be the coach of the raptors

hes a garbage coach

Mike Brown will not be the head coach of any team!

It will be Messina, or rather we will be offering him the position. I think that is a given seeing as we will always want to show we are attractive destination for coaching or playing especially somebody with an international resume. The international card is our MO and truth be told we are an international team anomaly in the NBA. We are not nearly as integrated into the league culture as say Canadian hockey teams are in the NHL. It is not that we do not have a history in the Huskies it is that our sports TV culture is divorced from stateside considering stateside TV culture supports and underwrites the league. We also have a hockey first culture which is the opposite of south of the border. So Raptors compete and mostly come up short against a gravitonal star market TV business reality and they also compete against hockey. Expect Messina as the next Raps coach as he fits the Raps culture and identity.

I was a huge Messina supported back when this was the Euro-Raptors, but he is a little outdated for the modern NBA.

He was running post offense through LMA when he got to coach in the playoffs, and I think it is an outdated approach. If he doesn't realize this is a guard/wing league, I think he may not be a great fit with Toronto.

It is not like we want JV and Ibaka handling the ball more than they have to. It is not like we have Nikola Jokic waiting in the wings.

Maybe he will adjust his philosophy with the Toronto personnel, but he is an old coach coming from a highly structured system-team.

He was running the offense through LMA in the playoffs because they had literally no one else on that team that could break down the defense consistently. With LMA posting up against the Warriors small front court, at least they could hope to score in iso or draw a double team to get the ball to an open shooter or cutter. It nearly worked in Game 5 but LMA's teammates were flaming trash so the Spurs lost the series anyway instead of stealing that game.

Fair comment on the lack of options, but Messina does have a history of focusing on post-offense.

He also states that his teams needed a minimum of 20 FGAs per game from the post. He talks about how the team should constantly look for opportunities to get the ball to the Center, where the defense is most forced to react. Messina is known for his development of post players and it seems clear from that article that he values low post players quite a bit. That isn’t to say that he only focuses on scoring from the post. His diagrams are full of all types of plays and the emphasis on getting the ball into the post seems more like "step 1" rather than the end goal. In a separate interview while with the Lakers, he talked about the importance of floor balance and ball movement.

This is pure speculation. You’re worse than Grange. Any authority to back that up?
