Re: 2020 Presidential Election (All Serious POVs Welcome)
curious why this hasn't gotten more attention
I have been away so catching up a bit but sounds like this interview was nearly a week ago and Trump did try to connect with Jacob Blake's family. Not the response Lemon was looking for there.

My guess is because the media is focused on Biden's speech unequivocally condemning rioting and looting in all forms, and Trump refusing to condemn Kyle Rittenhouse and right wing militias.mpharris36 wrote:curious why this hasn't gotten more attention

The Republican convention was 5 days ago, and this isn't really that newsworthy.mpharris36 wrote:GONYK wrote:My guess is because the media is focused on Biden's speech unequivocally condemning rioting and looting in all forms, and Trump refusing to condemn Kyle Rittenhouse and right wing militias.mpharris36 wrote:curious why this hasn't gotten more attention

The narritive was that Trump didn't care or wasn't concerned enough to reach out. He did a while ago but now it isn't newsworthy?

Not really. An attempt to call was made, but Blake''s mother was not available to take it. Then the Blake family said they would consult their lawyer before talking to any government official because they are obviously going to be dealing with a massive lawsuit against the police so Trump tucked tail and said no thanks. Biden did speak to them though.
And it is going to a real stretch for Trump to paint himself as compassionate and consoling when members of the family have this to say:
Justin Blake, James Blake’s uncle, told CNN that Jacob Blake’s father “has no interest in speaking with President Trump.” His only interest at the moment, Justin Blake said, is his son’s well-being and getting justice.
“President Trump is a racist who stokes racial tensions. He has been stirring racial tensions since he got in the White House. Why, as Jacob’s uncle, would I want to talk to him? Our focus is on Jacob and healing the community,” Justin Blake said, adding that he hasn’t spoken with Jacob Blake’s mother about speaking with Trump.

Not trying to paint him as a compassionate and consoling person but I just wanted to be fair that he did reach out, and she even went out of her way to apologize because there was a lot of backlash about it. He couldn't do anything at this point to make you think of him any differently.

why do you even feel the need to put that last sentence in there?
To portray me as intolerant and not willing to take in new information?
Why the heck would anything Trump does now change my opinion of him? Really? Especially since everything Trump does is for Trump's personal benefit in case you didn't pick up on that the last four years.
I stated the facts and the quotes. Nothing more. And Trump would be a fascist white supremacist whether he spoke to them or not so what's your point?

The media narrative is definitely busy with Trump and the right sympathetic to the 17yr old militia kid versus Biden condemning violent protest. NYTIMES this weekend said Biden wants to celebrate peaceful protest and positive change, but the Trump campaign hammering on Biden and democratic cities enabling the "Radical Left," forced Biden to address the issue today. I haven't watched but sounds like he did a good job.
I think it could be good if Biden could hammer out a good clear slogan like Trump: "Law and Order" vs. Trump viciously divides America. fans the flames on violence, and hates half the country. How do you sum that up? Trump wants you to hate your neighbor.
Trump Divides. People Die. Trump Lies. People Die. Trump encourages non-peaceful protest.

He won't be doing any of that. This is all about beating Trump. Biden needs moderates swing voters (aka white middle class voters not in NY & California). You aren't going to get them doing M4A or weed legalization. He's playing it VERY safe and doesn't want to shun anybody (e.g. condemning Linda Sarsour but later apologizing to her in private).
His term will be mostly about reestablishing the relationship between the GOP and DNC and trying to weed-out the Trump loyalist.
It's sad, but that is the deal. Unfortunately, I will have to accept that because if Trump is elected, this is what I expect at a minimum:
- Declaring BLM a terrorist group
- Some form of martial law inhibiting our freedom of speech and right to protest
- More riots and looting
- Little to no process combating climate change
- More Laura Loomers
- More money printed for the market and not the working class
- A lot more
Sounds like Hillary all over again.
I don't think it will be that bad. There was clear toxicity between Hillary and Bernie. Bernie and Biden seem to be on good terms.

Yea, he has a history of doing it for sure. And let's not forget the years the Obama administration wasted when they had a blue senate and house so they can play nice with the GOP. That's not true at all
If they win and hold the majority in both houses they will ignore the objections of the GOP and pass legislation without concessions to the right. Where on earth did you get that idea?
Except it is true.

EDIT: Biden might be different. He might be too old that he doesn't give a fck any more and will pay them no mind. Or he might be too old and just be passive about all of it. I'm betting on the latter.

Biden is leading the charge to ward off a fascist takeover and you're portraying how he would handle victory as just business as usual. After stealing a SCOTUS seat, putting in Kavanaugh, stonewalling the Democrats, protecting a traitor from impeachment there is no going back to the old days. If you believe that, then you must think Biden is a complete fool, because that's what it would take to be conciliatory towards a losing GOP. This is more doom talk and it is not based in the present reality. The Democrats will hold no quarter when they win. If you think otherwise, you're just paranoid. You don't defeat the 4th Reich and then invite them over for tea and cookies.

I think we all should wait for the facts. I don't want to assume anything. It should be relatively easy to fact check James E. Ward Jr. accompanied Julia Jackson on CNN with Don Lemon. They said they have spoken to him several times. But like you said probably just best to wait before we make any assumptions.
