Happy for Derozan, he deserves the recognition.

For what its worth, he was fine in his one playoff appearance with San Antonio.
I always thought Dwayne Casey struggled a bit adjusting his offenses in the playoffs, but Demar seems to get the brunt of the blame and resentment from Raps fans for those playoff disappointments.

On the Raps, Demar's role was to be the 1st option on a team trying to contend without any real 2nd option....i.e. a role only the James Hardens of the world can adequately fill. On top of that the roster was consistently littered with journeymen and/or young players that needed time to develop. People dont really take these things into consideration.

Those Raptors teams consistently overachieved given the overall talent and roster construction....this is often overlooked.

Somebody was saying he was too old like he was washed up or something, but he always looked like he was in great shape in San Antonio and just got better on offense every year. A real pro's pro.
He's kinda been one of the most underrated guys in the league his whole career it seems like. Just close enough to elite, but just far enough away, too, that the narrative was always centered around his limitations. Even Raps fans turned on him in the end.
But his footwork and money midrange shot just keep aging like fine wine. I hope he keeps killing it.

If Demar maintains this level or near this level of production, he should be an all star this season.

If the Bulls keep winning and his numbers stay up he almost has to right?

I’d be shocked if he wasn’t named to the All Star team with those conditions.

Prove me wrong.

You can say the same thing about Donovan Mitchell..prove me wrong lol.

Let’s not conflate team success with individuals. The raptors were never good enough to beat the cavs.

Nobody in the NBA thought that the Raptors had enough talent to win a title when DeRozan-Lowry were there.

It all changed when Siakim blew up. Leonard was then added. Then Toronto also got bailed out when teams started getting major injuries. It's all about luck and timing. The Raptors were fortunate to have that during their championship run.
Only one team they faced in their run had major injuries, and even then the Raptors had their lead guard playing with one foot, their FMVP was limping, and their 2nd best wing defender hadn't played a single game in the play-offs.

He is taking wide open, in rhythm 3's. Splashing them. He's a pro who is one of the best mid range shooters ever. I don't see why he can't sustain it.

He is also in an offense where Zach and Vuc can get him those looks consistently. So no he will never be Curry but he should get good clean looks often which will help that number stay higher than his average.

He's played on 50 win teams before with the likes of Lowry, so its not like this is the first time he's going to have a good team.

Those teams didn't have any guys outside of Lowry who could go get 30 points. Neither did his San Antonio teams. This Chicago team is the most firepower he's played with.

As scorers sure, but that Toronto team had a true all-star in Lowry, a very good center in Valanciunas, a very good power forward in Ibaka and plenty of depth with Vanvleet, Siakam, Powell, OG etc.

I'd love a fun alternate universe where Derozan wins playoffs MVP regardless of who wins the playoffs.

They had no starting pf or sf and I would argue jv then just made it worse onnnothends getting killed by cle in the one and clogging the paint for everyone vs everyone else.

They definitely overachieved. eveyrone that wants to say they choked just never really understood,

Players can be thread worthy even when they're not top 5 in the league. He's on a new team and performing better then expected from the get to. It's fun.

DeMar has been excellent but DeMar has a history of starting seasons well and then tapering off. One year I recall he looked like Kobe for the first couple months, thought he'd average 35ppg for the season.

Several people have said that so I went through his game log as a Bulls fan. In 2018, he had a real hot start and in 2016 too. That said, in most of his years his statistical output isn't actually peaking right off.

As a Bulls fan, I hope this isn't one of those years. I wouldn't be surprised though if his numbers come down over the next few weeks with Vucevic and Coby back.

I think he's played better than any other season so far. That jump up at his age seems unlikely. I'd expect him to drop a bit. However, he is a lot better than his Raptors days both defensively and scoring efficiency. Something he improved on the Spurs.

demar is a better player than he was back then. his 3 ball mechanics are better, he has other great shooters around him so he only has to be a good 3 point shooter in the corner. and nobody in the east has two lockdown defenders to guard both him and zach with, which is what you need to stop him. Demar is one of the very best people in the league are scoring efficently againsst people who arent excellent defenders, but when you put a lockdown guy like holiday, none of his tricks work. The difference the last 2 years is that hes added a lot of muscle so he has something other than skill to rely on, which was his problem before: he couldnt create space for good looks once players learn ALL his tendencies in the playoffs. now, if the bucks put pat connoughton or middleton on him, he can theoritically overpower them and it doesnt matter that they know what he wants to do. Now this means they gotta put holiday on him, and hopefully zach can create for demar to shoot those corner 3s hes hitting at 41% rn, which also make up half his 3 point shots.

if youre a bulls fan wondering kinds of defnse gave him problems this is a perfect encapsulation of the problem he faced.

if he can keep making this play when the big switch on him, he will be alright

Just as a general note, his stats might be the best on Chicago but defenses are treating him like a second option. When him and Zach are on the floor, Zach gets the better defender and sees more double teams. When its just Demar, the lineups are staggered so he is facing mostly bench players.

Some of his efficiency improvement is simply being on a team with a high efficiency/high volume scorer next to him.

He doesn't take dumb shots though. Back in his Toronto days, he was good for a handful of contested, high difficulty 20 footers. He really worked on his footwork and rarely takes a shot where he isn't balanced and in control.

See my post above. I was typing as you were posting. I think we agree.

On the 3's, virtually all of his attempts are controlled, wide open shots. He isn't taking pullups with a man in his face. I think that's helping his percentages.

It's not just Zach. He was a much more efficient scorer on the Spurs too. He learned to pick his shots more but mostly I believe he's a better shooter overall. His ft% spiked the last couple seasons. He was low 80s on Raps and is now high 80s.

In terms of picking spots I believe Spurs changed his game. He used to go for a lot of long 2s and Spurs trimmed that down a lot and got him shooting more inside 16ft 2s.
