you say a lot of things lol

I’m just speaking overall, he’s a better shooter that can score at the same (maybe slightly better) rate as Herro and does it as a starter. He’s worlds better defensively, like not even close. Herro is a better rebounder and passer and Trent is 1 year older so we’ll see how Trent’s current year compares to Herros next. Don’t sit here and try to shun it off like it’s not even close though lol, it can literally all be backed by the numbers

It's a close comparison.

Gary Trent Jr. is a starter but plays on a worse team (albeit still a playoff one) with arguably lesser talented players surrounding him, and so his 19th ppg as the 3rd option behind FVV and Siakam is highly impressive.

Tyler Herro on the other hand, averages more points, rebounds, and assists, but has worse efficiency and is also coming off of the bench. The defense also isn't the greatest either, as Herro is a slightly below average defender at this point of his career whereas Trent Jr. is arguably on the perennial elite side.

I would still take Herro over Gary Trent Jr mainly because he has more tools to work with offensively (Gary is a better shooter and that's about it). And as you mentioned - Herro is also a year younger - so he has time on the side. Lastly, Herro has had to play a lot of games essentially being the primary scorer for us, as all three of Jimmy, Bam and Lowry have each missed significant time. This has definitely impacted his efficiency to an extent.

It's subjective and definitely not a wash on either end.

Looking for a contender to sign with that will give him playing time. Not sure that’s here. Bucks just lost a guard so they will probably be tops on his list.

I know we have a bunch of talented backup guards but not many who can create. Herro plays way better off the ball and while i love the way Gabe plays, I think Goran would be an upgrade offensively.

I have no problem with that and agree with most of what you said. I just think a player like Trent would take this team to another level as he’s exactly what we need next to Duncan. Herros scoring package has been elite since his rookie year, just need that to be matched by his efficiency.

Trent seems to step up when his guys go down, as we saw with his 42 last night on very high efficiency.

But anyways like I said it will probably never happen, just can’t help but think of it when I see him play and see what he does on both sides of the ball

I’ve loved what Gabe has given as well but I think Dragic would be an upgrade. He’s well rested and has been working on his game. It wouldn’t hurt to try it and if it doesn’t work at least we have him there for the leadership and chemistry

With Oladipo right around the corner we are about to have a major log jam at the guard spot and that’s without Dragic. Buuuut i will welcome him back with open arms.

Yea get Caleb on the active roster, bring me the Dragon back and let’s rock. Gabe has played well, but we need a vet decision maker insurance incase an injury happens to Lowry too. I want all the reinforcements in terms of ball handlers and creators. I know some of harping over a backup 4, but there’s nothing really worthwhile available. Kieff will be back. And there’s certainly no option better than just playing Yurt more beyond that.

Good point, its easy to forget we still have Oladipo on the team. Its been a long time since he played. If he is even %80 of the player he used to be, we will be in good shape.

contract wrote:This fanbase is weird. We're all alone in 1st place in the East with 26 games to go, and some fans are unhappy because our coach won't alter our style of play to get our 3rd string Center more minutes?

That's **** weird!

We're sharing the ball. We're playing defense. And we're not even hitting on all cylinders yet. This is the best team we've had since LeBron left town! :onfire:

Do you also side with Spo that Bam should be nothing more than a guy who gets Duncan Robinson open for 3s?

If not, then welcome to the club - a club that includes Pat Riley.

Pat Riley also thinks we should use 2-big lineups a bit more often and we've been seeing that lately.

Just know that these aren't fringe ideas, we're not alone, and we've got good company.

One last thing, @contract: being #1 in the East isn't enough.

No one seriously believes we're a legit contender unless Bam emerges as a superstar.

Under Spo,that wasn't going to happen because he believes Duncan Robinson is the superstar.

Just think about how differently yesterday's game goes without Bam's 29pts while having to rely on Duncan's 4-12 (2-10), Strus' 2-6, Gabe's 1-6, or PJ Tucker's 1-5.

Oladipo is returning. We don't have room for goran.

I'll take Goran over Oladipo. But I think we can make it work with both. Gabe falls out of rotation and Cluncan mins get reduced when he's throwing out bricks. If he wants to come back, we owe him to get to the roster. He's sacrificed money and has always been willing to accommodate the FO to give them flexibility. Many players don't. Lowry didn't. Out of all the players we have, him & UD are the only true heat lifers. Winning with him after the years we struggled post Lebron and then post Bosh would be right. Bring the dragon back home.

Dragic and Dipo can work if we do this and that third lineup is as good as any 2nd lineup in the NBA so we can switch a lot of guys around .

Lowry/ Dragic / Gabe
Dipo/ Herro / Struss
Butler/ Robinson/ Martin
Tucker/ Morris / Haslem
Bam/ Dedmon / Yurt
