Like I said Lakers are going to get Irving for nothing.

This is why the NBA sucks sometimes. I honestly can't wait for LeBron to retire

It does suck but I really don't believe if this happens that the lakers become the favorite to win. Lebron is older and both AD and Kyrie are still made of glass.

Definitely fair points especially with AD and Irving. It's just the whole principle of it where there's just certain teams that seemingly get guys for free all the time.

This will be pretty devastating to Brooklyn if this happens but I guess this is what happens when franchises get in bed with Irving.

In this situation they can still flip Westbrook for assets. I don't think they are the favorites. Its more like a high risk high reward thing.

Lakers have nothing of value to offer the Nets.

I have a feeling the discussions went like...

Nets may have offered the S/T to teams of Kyrie's preference, but not necessarily a guarantee based on the trade.

Kyrie may have countered with an ultimatum - my deadline to opt-out is Wed. Find a solution or I'm opting-out and signing MLE and go to the team of my choice.
Cheers

I'm sure the Lakers were trying to trade Westbrook for assets since January. If there were a trade to be made, it would already be done by now.

This would be pretty funny. Kyrie screws himself out of $30 million, then the Lakers have to give the 31 year old Kyrie a 5 year max contract next year? They'd be replacing the Westbrook contract with a brand new one.

If he opts out he better be prepared to play for the taxpayer mle. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Probably needs to be working with the Nets to find a solution that works for both parties but the options seem real limited here.

The Nets did a great job rising from the dire bare cupboard circumstances that the previous FO led them to, swung for the fences with a top tier acquisition in KD even if it cost them taking Irving along, hoping that perhaps being at home with his beffie would settle him. Nope.

Perhaps the FO over-catered? Well they have KD signed for another four years and that's a huge asset whether for them on the court or for trading if he chooses to want out. But I disagree that the Nets FO didn't bother to get to know Irving or however that was phrased. That may also be just public front to keep it smooth with Irving during this process; if not, then KD is being used by both a friend and a mindset of a group that is self-serving in teaching its adherents to praise themselves to unrealistic levels.

Anyway, if the Nets FO is really firm in its stance with Irving then good for them. They've rebuilt once, they can do it again, and this time have far better assets with which to do so.

I dont think the Lakers are anything to be threatened by with LeBron / AD / Kyrie and still think LeBron will bounce in FA.

If he wants to threaten to opt out and take MLE….. let him Brooklyn. It’s better than taking on Russ.

On paper they would be, but what are the chances that all three of those guys are healthy come the end of the season?

Luxury tax aside, the Nets are better off taking any unprotected future firsts they can get from the Lakers. it's going to be a long hard rebuild with the Rockets controlling their picks for the next 5 years.

I don’t even know when they can trade a first? 2027?

If Nets feel they need to take a horrible deal for a 2027 ish draft pick, something is wrong.

All this talk and somehow he’s still going to end up with the Lakers.

Something is definitely wrong if Kyrie leaves.

Kinda, the Rockets are rebuilding also, they just got what the 3 pick in the draft? Its fair to say both teams if they rebuild would be in the lottery.
