Re: Maine Celtics, 2022-23
Tony Snell does not seem to be making headlines in Maine so far
anyone want to save me the effort of looking up his stats?
(jk, I'll do it)
These are some of the most boring statistics I've ever seen:
https://stats.gleague.nba.com/player/203503/
11/6/2 on 43/36/95
nothing impressive with advanced stats either
Guess I'm glad he's a useful role player for at least one of the Celtics teams?

Hmm, the big game by Fi. And now this from JD.
Maybe we'll just convert 1 of them for that last roster spot..same thing we did last season with Hauser.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

He was off to a great start when he first landed in Maine. He was over 40% from three for his first 9 games, but has fallen back to earth since the all-star break (23% in 4 games). Still seems like an adequate option as a towel waving emergency depth piece, but probably showing more of why he was a G-League pickup and not by a team in the big leagues.

The Celtics finish off the regular season against the Knicks on March 23, and the G League playoffs will get underway on March 28. If Maine were to host a playoff game at the Expo, fans should keep their eyes peeled for a first-round matchup to be held on the 28th or 29th, with each subsequent round being played on the following days.

Listened to an interview where they talked with the GM from Maine. Turns out Snell reached out to ask he if he could play for them and the Maine GM turned him down. Thought he’d want it to be too much about himself. Snell comes back and says sure I’ll take the 9th man spot in Maine no problem whatever you want.
Sounds like they are pretty on the ball in terms of bringing in guys that get with the program. Made Snell seem like a pretty good dude, wouldn’t mind if they brought him in as #15 if they don’t convert Cabin Jelly.

Interesting backstory, thanks for sharing! Here I was hoping the Cs were being proactive by getting a look at him in Maine and it turns out it’s the opposite.
Wouldn’t “converting” one of the rookies start their salary clock a year early, with only a handful of games to show for it? Or is there something more subtle to be done there.
Regardless I have moved out of the Happening Bunker and burned it to the ground. While reclaiming victory on my “Celtics will only carry 14” take from last summer

Can’t remember all the details on converting two way guys but that’s why I think it won’t be JD. Maybe Cabby if it helps then trade his salary next summer (a la Fitts Sauce etc last year).

Yeah. The Clock would start on their Rookie contracts (if they converted a Two-Way). Best to wait until the offseason.
I've been in the “Celtics will only carry 14” boat since we traded Vonleh. No sense in adding a non-player now.

Keep in mind, Kabengele is not a rookie. He's been in the league for a few years now..

I was going to post that it's telling he hasn't even gotten a chance when we lack our whole frontcourt, but then I realized it's the end of Gleague regular season, playoffs coming up, so I guess they're prioritizing whatever continuity/competitiveness they have going on in Maine over bringing a guy up for a Hail Mary attempt at making an impact with the 'big' club.

I just want to convert him if they can add a contract year next year, so they can trade him this summer. Like Sauce and Fitts etc last summer. Between PP and him that would be over $6m+ in salary going out, could take back almost $8M.

You look at these clips (as well as other footage we've seen from this season) and I just love the pace, the way he pushes the ball while not getting out of control - sees the floor, makes the right reads and is dropping dimes left and right. Spreading the ball around, hitting the open man.
Put up crazy assist numbers in summer league and putting up crazy assist numbers in g league.
Good size for a PG (6'3", built like a running back), can jump out of the gym.
Still only 20 yrs old. Was a 5 star recruit out of HS, and entering his freshman season of college was a projected lottery pick in the draft.
Really like his potential.
