Maybe a rats arse can tell that NBA teams CAN`T prevent someone from playing at eurobasket.

Here is a memo:

"This is a reminder that, under the NBA's agreement with FIBA, NBA teams are required to permit their players to play in certain major national-team competitions, provided that adequate insurance is obtained. These include the Olympics, world championships, continental championships [such as the European Championships], and relevant qualifying tournaments. The NBA/FIBA agreement also provides that NBA teams may not take any steps that are intended to deter players from playing in such competitions.”

Maybe it will change when they start facing better quality competition, but Valanciunas is head and shoulders best player on the court every time. Sabonis looked better too, he can handle the ball, find teammates, if only their perimeter players hit their shots in Euros, I see them as legit medal contenders.

Got to say, I had misconception about who Brazdeikis is. As a person who knew little about him, I thought he was a shooter, and hes not. Hes a bricklayer and his form is ugly as hell. But on the other hand, he is far more physical than I thought and has great handle.

You might remember how Valanciunas looked in crucial match against Slovenia last year, where he should dominated against very average front court. ;)

Preparation games are meant for putting team together and not for focus on other team. It's much easier for stars to put big numbers in those games than in real ones.

Valanciunas' biggest problem is that he can't defend pick&roll and that will probably be in full display against Slovenia again.

Valanciunas was scoring every time against Slovenia in the crunch, but Doncic put him on the pick and roll and scored on him every time too. Coach at the end subbed out Valanciunas and put Sabonis, it was desperate move simply because Lithuania needed stops as they were trailing, but yeah, Jonas had no trouble scoring, but he was unable to guard Luka pick and rolls at all sadly.

Which was to be expected. It did look pretty much as a world-class team trashing a bunch of scrubs, because that is exactly what was happening. The more talented players (Lauri Markkanen, Sasu Salin, etc) of Team Finland didn't play in this. Add to that Lithuania is especially defensively very good.

Next week (18th of August) Finland will play against Ukraine a practice match, which should see the line-up Finland intends to use in Eurobasket. Hopefully that will be a bit more even match (Ukraine is positioned 32nd in the FIBA rankings, Finland is 35th (FWIW, Lithuania is ranked 8th, ahead of Greece, Italy, Germany, etc)).

I just bought tickets for Serbia vs Greece game set for August 25th in Belgrade. Can't wait to see Jokic and Giannis go h2h in an important game, as they have never played against each other outside regular NBA season.

Thanks for reminding me. And tickets are dirt cheap, courtside seats next to the baskets are only $20 lol

Yeah, probably. I guess the National Association wants a packed place, as this game is really important.

I bought two tickets for VIP seats at the lower level and those cost me less than 60 bucks in total.

The current FIBA power-rankings for Eurobasket, for those who are interested in such. At least it has a short description of each team :p

Yep, it's a qualifier for the WC. This could be the type of game to ignite a potential half-decade rivalry between the two for basketball supremacy. I'm pumped for this game. Especially if they potentially meet for a Championship game in Eurobasket the following month.

Wow nice game winner. Korkmaz was the games topscorer with 33 pts though.

Luka highlights

An exhibition isn't an important game. Giannis loves to compete and Jokic is a basketball genius, but the important games start September 2nd for these two teams.

This is a WC qualifications game and Serbia has to win to keep the chances for qualifying alive.

Great comeback from the refs, lol. The only reason why the game went to overtime, let's be real. But a great game nonetheless, felt like it was at the EuroBasket and not just a preparation game.
