It's funny how Giant fans come out of the woodwork to trash the Jets. As a Jets fan, i don't think about the Giants unless we play them, or someone reminds me of how they hard they collapsed last season.

This is huge for the Jets. Everyone knew that Revis would be playing this season for the Jets, some just thought that it would take longer for the Jets to up the ante. Didn't Tannenbaum say he wasn't going to raise the offer? (I could have just made that up...but I remember seeing something like that recently).

The Jets did not up the ante 45 million for 4 years with 32 million guaranteed according to Manish. I see us keeping Harris plus Edwards/Cro. Holmes I think is the odd man out or his price going to be low because of the 4 games missed. Cro is gonna be making less money also because of the off the field issues combined with lack of tackling. Edwards needs hold onto the ball more to make the large money and Harris is the only one I see that will make the big bucks next year with out a stretch

I_Love_NYK wrote:This Jets D with Revis is still not what the 2000 Ravens defense was. The Jets going to the superbowl will still be in the hands of Mark Sanchez. They also had to make a lot of key cuts to key players to keep Revis happy. Tony Richardson is probably the best blocking fullback in the league. That new guy just hits hard but does not have the football IQ that Tony Richardson has.

Nope I think they have the potential to be better because of the pass defense. The have one hell of a pass defense. The corners 1 thru 4 have a chance to the best group ever, You tell me when have you had two corners of Cro and Revise and then a number 3 backup with the potential (remember because of the hold he he was running with the first string defense and holding his own quite nicely). And the 4 string corner could start on some teams and at least be a slot/nickle back on most of the others (the position he is best for). If you are going to pass on the Jets it won't be on the outside but on the safety or lbs.
The number 1 defense last year has gotten better. If you want to pick an area of weakness go with either de (depth) or LB Pace's injury.
As far as Sanchez he just needs to play like he did during the playoff run and they will be fine. Is he dilfer nope he got a better arm but this is just his 2nd full yr starting.
Gmen fans seem to recall people calling for heads until a certain playoff run.
This is not a place for you to question the qb but rather talk about revis.

Yeah they do.

Harris, Edwards, Holmes and Cro will all be FA's after this season. Giving Revis 15 mil is going to derail a few pieces coming back.

I think Harris and Holmes comeback.....Kyle Wilson should be ready by next year to be the No. 2 CB(One of the toughest jobs in the NFL considering who No.1 is). We could draft a WR next year in like round 4 to try and replace Edwards as the No.3 on the team unless Patrick Turner finds the light as a member of Gang Green.

Turner's 6'5... Will never become a slot guy, and if we let go of Cro, we're going to have to replace our #3 corner, and we also need to get an OLB and some DL help.

People are saying goodbye David Harris...ARE NUTS!!! You dont think we know how important that guy is to our team, Imo And i dont care if i get killed for this cause i watch him play, he is by far the most under rated player in the NFL and is the 2nd best ILB to Patrick Willis...David Harris in this system is perfect and there is no way we let him go he will 100% be a Jet moving forward.

We Will find a way to atleast keep one of those Wideouts IMO Holmes and I also believe we will keep cro, maybe not cause we have wilson but well see..I think Bart Scott will be released next year to free up money, I think moves will be made so we can resign those other players.

No way Bart Scott gets let go. No way. He's Rex's baby, and Rex has shown in the past to show favoritism, (Woodhead/Conner)

But, the deal is a lot better than I'd thought it be, so I'm happy it got done, and now I think we can keep Holmes/Harris.

Darrelle Revis, Jets Agree To Extension, Apologizes.

Post#55 » by zilby » Mon Sep 6, 2010 5:02 pm

it not has only been hard on u guys but it has for me too. I just want to tell yall that I'm sorry for this process and I can't wait to get back on the field.

To my family, neil, & john I love u guys I'm comin home baby!!! Revis Island LET'S GO.

Ocnn reports that @revis24 will be in jersey early this afternoon.

NEW YORK -- After a seven-month stalemate often marked by acrimony, the New York Jets and holdout cornerback Darrelle Revis agreed in principle Sunday night on a new contract, the team announced early Monday morning.

Revis, whose holdout lasted 35 days, is expected to fly to New Jersey Monday to sign the contract. Barring any holdups, the All-Pro will be on the field in time to have a full week of preparation for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, a week from Monday.

"I'm coming home baby!!! Revis Island. Let's Go," Revis tweeted shortly after midnight.

Revis will sign a four-year contract, GM Mike Tannenbaum announced. He declined to discuss the amount, but a source said it's a $46 million deal, including $32 million in various guarantees.

Under his old contract, Revis was due to make $21 million over the next three years, all of which was guaranteed until he didn't show up for training camp, voiding the guarantee. After a long holdout that resulted in $578,305 in fines, Revis secured $11 million in additional guarantees while committing an extra year to the team.

Tannenbaum wouldn't say if Revis will be responsible for paying the fines. He called it an internal issue, adding Revis and Ryan would discuss how to handle it.

"This is an intermediate step to what we hope will be an entire career of Darrelle as a Jet, for him to retire as a Jet and for him to hopefully go to the Hall of fame as a Jet," Tannenbaum said in an early-morning conference call with reporters.

Tannenbaum admitted that he explored possible trades for a cornerback over the weekend. While he did that, coach Rex Ryan and owner Woody Johnson took a spur-of-the-moment trip to South Florida on Saturday afternoon to meet with Revis, his mother and his uncle, former NFL defensive lineman Sean Gilbert. Gilbert once sat out an entire season in a contract dispute with the Washington Redskins.

The meeting was first reported by the New York Daily News.

Ryan met most of Sunday with Gilbert and Revis. By the time the meeting ended, both sides felt that progress had been made and their differences could be bridged.

At that point, negotiations heated up between the Jets and Revis' New-York based agents.

"Those guys going down there was a huge step," Tannenbaum said.

Revis has a home in South Florida, which he went to last week after spending more than a week with family in his hometown, Aliquippa, Pa. Ryan and Revis have a good relationship, and the Jets were counting on Ryan's persuasiveness to change Revis' stance.

"I really wasn't optimistic, I really wasn't," Tannenbaum said. "It was a hard set of dynamics. I'm optimistic by nature, but gosh, this was really hard. There was a lot of heavy lifting. This honestly and truly was really, really hard."

Despite the upbeat meeting in Florida, the two sides didn't have "a significant breakthrough" until around 10 p.m., according to Tannenbaum. That's when they agreed to the length of the contract and the total amount.

With Revis still in Florida, Tannenbaum negotiated by phone with the cornerbacks' agents, with Johnson available on speaker phone. Asked to describe Ryan's reaction when the deal was finalized, Tannenbaum said, "I think I had to medicate the head coach."

Revis made $15 million in his first three seasons. He wanted to become the highest-paid cornerback in the league, seeking about $16 million per season. According to family members, he was angry at the organization because he believed it reneged on a promise to make him the highest-paid corner.

Initially, the Jets offered Revis a 10-year, $120 million contract and a four-year, $40 million deal, but there was only a small amount of guaranteed money in each proposal. Revis' agents countered by asking for $162 million over 10 years, with more than $40 million guaranteed.

On Friday, several players told ESPNNewYork.com they were resigned to starting the season without Revis. One player said it was "a tragedy" that the stalemate got this far.

Rich Cimini covers the Jets for ESPNNewYork.com. Follow him on Twitter. Information from The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Well, MLB isn't THAT important of a position. Not like a LT/QB/NG, but I'd agree just because Harris is probably the 2nd best LB in the NFL, and he's home grown.

Yeah, but Scott's real value also comes out with intangibles, and he's the leader of our defense. Rex would never let him go.

We got rid of most of our bad contracts, so we're set now.

Yall are sleeping on Kyle Wilson. Number 1 press corner who came out of the draft this year. He will be starting over Cromartie mid-season. Cromartie was brought in for the push to the super-bowl this year. He is a hired mercenary on a one year deal just like Taylor. I'm pretty sure Harris will be back, Holmes will be back or franchised (assuming there is football next year), and everyone else is replaceable. Edwards sucks, and Cromartie will get a ridiculous deal on the open market (probably something like Nate Clements money).
RIP Jared Jeffries. Gone but never forgotten...2006-2012
