He isn't the most athletic player, he can get up and down the court okay, he's a half court type of player. Still believe he has value at PF with his size despite his frame.
I though he was perfectly fine in that video considering the setting. He didn't make any mistakes and made jump shots. His strength/bulk is an issue, but he's dedicating the summer to that.
Speaking of players working out for the Wiz, James Southerland would make a lot of sense as the Wiz 2nd 2nd rounder as a 3 and D 3. He measured surprisingly well at the combine 6'7 without shoes - so make that a bit over 6'8. 221 lbs - though I would have guessed 210. 7'1 wingspan. Had a very good score on the agility drill. The problem is - he's 23, and his stats were only ok before this season. But he shot close to 40% on High Volume of 3's, so he should have more potential than a Cartier Martin. Here, he got a taste of the Monumental media

Muscala didn't do anything in the video that'll leave anyone in awe but the again the video's only a minute and a half long. I think his very average athleticism showed in the video but if you watched him in college you already knew that. What can't be seen in the video is Muscala's ability to find the open man much like Nene can.
If Southerland can't create his own shot, I don't know if he's much of an upgrade over Ariza or Webster. I think the Wizards need to add someone with diversity at SF, if not, I'd prefer for them to just focus on targeting a PF that can take some of the burden off of Nene --- I think Carmichael could be the answer . I'd also prefer for them to start looking for a guy to who could fill Okafor's shoes, someone like Trevor Mbakwe. I think guys like that are way more solid additions than a guy who's a spot-up shooter and not much more---assuming Southerland falls into that category.
True what you said about Muscala. I just thought he would look a little different, even in a short clip. But you make a good point about what the clip doesn't show.
As for Carmichael, I agree he has a lot of what needs to get added.
Honestly, I'm almost more excited about what they can do right with a pick like Carmichael then I am about who the get in the first.
While evaluating the players in round one of this class, I found the ones I liked best in the group and they moved to the top of the draft now. But that doesn't mean I think any of them are great fits for what we need using a top 3 pick. There is no Beal type player and fit this year.
I'd almost rather picking later in this draft. Something like idea that involves picking up a player with experience in a area of need while trading back the top pick would be fine by me. If that involves moving Singleton, all the better.
If they can land Carmichael, even better. I would love to see Kevin S with some real competition.
Hell, I would be happy if they added any of Mason Plumlee , Gorgui Dieng , Jeff Withey or Colton Iverson as well.
This is just not the draft to good fishing for core pieces, so why force it and get stuck holding the bag. They already have Vesely from a draft like that. Just like that draft, they better move would have been trading back for Nikola.
If they use the top pick, Len is the one that makes the most sense but I would be alright if they didn't want to roll the dice this year and traded down instead.
