And fwiw, it's Marc Stein who's pushing the rumor. Most times when I've heard him speak, I've wondered why ESPN employs him. He's seemed to be less knowledgable than the average RealGM poster.

I think the rumor is BS. Ernie knows he can't afford to repeat the Mike Miller disaster again. He may indeed trade the pick for a veteran, but it's going to be for a veteran who is already signed long term.

Michael Lee already said there's no interest on the Wizards end. David Aldridge re-tweeted KC Jones saying there's nothing to it w/o Deng agreeing to an extension. This is losing steam quickly.

This is what good GMs do...they float a BS rumor out there in order to raise a player's value. Everyone knows Deng isn't worth a top-5 pick, no matter how weak the draft is.

This is exactly like the Rudy Gay for Brad Beal rumors that were flying during the trade deadline.

TGW I love that sig everytime I look at it I lol hard!!!

I'll take it a step further, not only aren't the Wizards doing this deal, they aren't trading the pick at all.

“We’re going to get a solid player. We don’t know who is going to be available to us, obviously,” Grunfeld said. “But we’ve done our homework and most of our research and we feel good about the player we’re possibly going to get.”

That pick is being used.

More realistic

Deng(agreeing to an extension), #20, Gibson

for

#3, Okafor, Ariza

Hell no! No trade with Deng involving the third pick.

Sorry dobrojim, I can't give him the benefit of the doubt. He's given me no reason to do so.

This is the same guy that traded a #5 for two expiring contracts. Why wouldn't he do something as stupid as the rumor suggests?

The thing is at least 95% of rumors are not true. I don't think this will happen IMO especially since better deals like Illyasova one (although I wouldn't do that either) have been written off.

I can see you guys trading the #3 for a veteran SF or PF, but even as a Bulls fan I don't see us getting the #3 pick- even in a weak draft- for Deng.

Wall and Beal is probably the best young backcourt (potential-wise) in the league, so it makes sense to add a veteran defender who doesn't need the ball to be effective.

Now if the Bulls offered Deng, Gibson, the #20 pick, and the pick Charlotte owes us for #3, Okafor and Ariza- that might get close to getting done.

I'm sure your front office wants to make the playoffs this year, and Deng would help you more than whoever goes at #3 for this year. Of course for the future, the #3 has much more value than Deng, but not in the short-term.

No. You're trying to trade a bag of "magic" beans for the 3rd pick. Just because it's not as bad as the now old rumor, doesn't mean it makes sense.

Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. I'm just trying to look at things from the Wizards' point of view.

Trading Deng and replacing him with a rookie sets the Bulls back this season, which is why I don't even want to see Deng traded for the #1 pick (another stupid rumor that has no basis).

I swear I was about to slap a ho. I'm very anti-deng. The guy is overrated and declining. The fact he made "all star" appearances as of late is laughable to me.

there is clearly a history which could make a reasonable person believe
that we would consider a bad trade. I get that. But the Deng trade was
so bad, I don't see how a reasonable person could give it any credence at all.

The best part about this is:

What did Grunfeld do when he had the chance to draft deng?

Trade for over the hill veterans of course.

History cannot stop repeating itself for this franchise.

You know how in the NFL, every agent for free agents leaks some story about how the Redskins are interested in the player, in order to boost his perceived value? And people believe those reports because it's conceivable that the free-spending Redskins might be interested?

Well that appears to be happening with the Wizards. Teams can leak these reports to increase the perceived value of their own players, because it's believable that the Wizards/Grunfeld might be interested in one of these terrible deals, just because of deals he's made in the past.

That's messed up.
