Honestly, I have my reservations as to how successful his coaching style will be in the NBA.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if there is basically a verbal deal in place. Whether or not you personally think he's the right coach for the job, it still makes absolute perfect sense why a deal is highly likely to happen. The Magic want to make a big splash and there isn't anybody bigger out there right now that would do that. Donovan wants to join the NBA and the Magic make the most sense for him. He'd get to stay in state, and I'm sure because of that he's pretty familiar with the team already. He would be developing young talent, something that he's very used too. Also, thanks to how terrible these past few years have been, he'd be set up for instant success. I mean add another good young draft pick this year, hopefully a better bench, and a competent coach, and this team shouldn't have a problem competing for a playoff spot next year, or at the very least, make a big improvement over these garbage seasons.
So I just think Orlando would be a very attractive option for him, and I could see why the Magic would want him as well. I would hope we would wait until we see what happens to Thibs, but I honestly would be shocked if anybody else but Donovan is the coach for this team next year. However, I will say that Smart being hired by Texas makes me wonder if Donovan really does leave. I thought for sure he would be the next Gators coach, and you would think he would have waited to see what Donovan does before going anywhere else, but I'm probably just reading too much into it.

Donovan.....NO. We need Scott Skiles, a mean, scream into your face, bulldog coach. Someone who gets pissed off all the time and will plant a bomb under these guys.

I remember he dodged the question about the possibility of leaving FL in the future when he was interviewed by Rachel Nichols on CNN last year. He didn't want to project where he was going to be and for how many years since he might change his mind.

Speaking as someone who has followed Florida hoops closely for awhile, I think everyone around Gainesville knew he's wanted a shot to coach in the NBA since last off-season when the Knicks job opened. When Michael Frazier, junior G, declared for the draft, that was a huge indication to me Frazier had an idea that Donovan wasn't firmly committed to Florida going forward. Also, it's unlike Donovan, or any coach seeking to keep his recruits, to not come out and immediately deny the rumors. I don't know if Donovan will be our next coach, but I think he'll pursue the best job that opens up. That may or may not be ours.

Donovan played Otis like a quarter arcade that summer, which I feel clouded his judgement when negotiating with Rashard Lewis' agent....ahhh memories

Yes
Not sure why you guys hate about borrego so much, but hes going to be a very good coach in this league one day, and ill bet that if we dont sign him to be the full time head coach, someone else will
He has all the tools (like having a high bball IQ and is a real leader, something no coach here has ever had) to be a good coach and just needs the experience, which he is getting right now. Sure the team is something 8-15 with him as coach, but he took over a very bad situation with one of the youngest teams in the league, he needs time, and if im in the FO, im giving him that chance assuming we dont get Thibs (i dont see ollie leaving)
As for donovan, fool me once........

I really doubt he will be hired soon if we cut him loose. Maybe a team wanting to start a complete rebuild and looking for a tank commander. High bball IQ? And what exactly classifies him as a "real" leader? Sorry, but you're going to have to provide examples because I'm not seeing it. I'm not concerned with the record as much as I am with how the team is playing, rotations, schemes, etc. We still look just as sloppy and unorganized as a team since the day he took over. We've got some nice pieces that can pull out wins from time to time due to talent, but I don't look at the team and get the sense they're being well coached and improving as a team. You look at equally young and inexperienced teams like philly, boston, and milwaukee and you can see how the coaching is paying off in their play as they look more like cohesive units.
Borrego may become a decent coach one day, maybe, but that day seems very far down the line - as in 5-10 years - and we can't wait for that. Donovan will also need to learn on the job, but perhaps his two decades of being an actual head coach will help speed that along. Bitterness over what happened last time should not be a reason to leave him off the list. Not saying we should go after donovan, but borrego needs to go ASAP.

Ew no we don't want one of the best college coaches over.
Borrego is what a REAL high bball IQ leader looks like! Donovan doesn't know what he is doing!!

That's certainly the first thing I thought of as well. He's coached Elf and Gordon in the past. Which makes this situation much more plausible to me.
I still doubt it happens, but it's definitely not impossible.

Donovan also coached Myles Turner, Justice Winslow, and Stanley Johnson last summer in the U18's.

something you need in the NBA which he is showing zero skills is developing young players. he needs much more experience before being a head coach again

People are so weird about these things. I don't care if he punched Rich DeVos in the face. If he's the best coach available, you go after him.

Donovan a year ago:
"The intriguing part of the NBA to me is just the fact that it's basketball 24 hours a day. That's all you're dealing with is basketball. There's a lot more that goes into a college coaching job other than the coaching part of it. There are a lot of other things you have to do."
