Biggest NBA team fanbase, and why?

1. New York - default biggest city, fans all over the US. Lots of cheers during road games
2. LA - 2nd biggest city, fanbase is dead when they suck though. Huge global following
3. Chicago - 3rd biggest city, big sports city and fans all over the US and globally. Lots of cheers during road games
4. Boston - not the biggest market but probably the biggest ratio of sports fans
5. Golden state or Dallas

Raptors wouldn't even be top 10.

Dunno why people keep mentioning that the Raptors have a country behind them. First off, that's not really true, it isn't a given that a Canadian basketball fan is a Raptor fan nearly as much as someone from SoCal is a LA fan etc. It's like when people assume that people in Pittsburgh are Sixer fans by default because there are no other basketball teams in Pennsylvania.
Second, country doesn't equate to high population. Canada has a population of about 30 million people and the nation is sparsely populated (one of the least dense in the world, granted ranking wise the US is up there also for obvious reasons). Canada only has a population of 30 million people, with most of them being Hockey fans. So unless like every Canadian was not only a basketball fan but a Raptor fan, it's hard to see them being a top 3 or 4 most popular NBA team I would think.

Hardly anyone in Europe, Africa or Asia have heard of the Spurs, Raptors, Heat or Cavaliers. Some have heard of the Celtics and the Knicks. It's the Bulls or the Lakers by a very wide margin.

No they don't, such a misconception, before the Raptors were created Canadian fans had allegiances with various teams, I was born in NB Canada, and geographically the Celtics were way closer than the Raps, obviously my family has ties to the Pistons so I leaned towards them.
Bugs me abit when people think all Canadians love the Raptors, they are Toronto's team not Canada's.

Im canadian, and i dont rep the raptors.. im a Lakers fan. Alot of my friends also pursue interest in other nba teams rather than the raptors too. You can't just make assumptions like that, Kobblehead. Maybe individuals in Ontario are hardcore raptors fans but Canada has other provinces too. SMH, Raptor fans dont want you anyway. Ive always looked at people like this as traitors, or they think theyre too cool to rep their hometown. A Lakers Fan? Really? more like a bandwagoner lol. Have you even been to LA, any person can post their name beside something great and think theyre a part of it, but it takes real guts to be true to your roots. If the world went to war youd be on Canadas team, not LAs...well after letting them know youre a Laker fan you probably wouldnt be on anyones team lol

the funniest thing about this is Canadians hate Torontonians lol, so this is not surprising. We are widely considered ****. We have a superiority complex while the rest of Canada has an inferiority complex, a match made in heaven really

I've been saying this for a while and by no means am i disregarding the support of Canada as a whole when it comes to the Raptors but that crowd you see outside of playoff games and majority of the posters on our forum is from Ontario specifically the Toronto/GTA. Toronto has always been a huge sports city, just give us the right product to cheer for.

but i'd say lakers, knicks, and some combination of toronto/boston/chicago, then dallas, san antonio

Knicks, Lakers, Celtics and Bulls fans are heard loudly and seen in arenas and cities everywhere in the US and have a large global presence, Hands down the top 4....Raptors maybe but I dont know how much of the whole Canada are basketball fans

Its the Lakers on one tier, then there is a floating superstar tier for where some like Lebron plays, then Bulls/Celtics
I've never met a Knicks fan that wasn't from New York
most NBA fans are bandwagoners, its more than just market

I'm a Knicks fan and I say Lakers are the clear cut number 1, due to location and history.
If the Knicks were as successful as the Lakers, I seriously think they'd be the most successful franchise in America.

Have you seen the Knicks board and how they still sell tix during the regular season? The Knicks have been horrible for most of the last 15 years.
