Why was he only picked at 41st? and we picked Joe Harris lol.
The most impressive thing about his stats is that they really did not drop much after he was placed in the starting lineup.
He was picked in 2014 off the same team that had Nurkic on it. Reportedly he had spent much of the year before he was picked on a junior team in the Adriatic league. NOt a huge hotbead of NBA talent ready to go to the NBA in a year. Last year I believe he was MVP of the adriatic league and had taken a huge step up. Listening to the Euro league experts prior to the draft last summer many of them said that he would have been a late lotto pick with some even going so far as top 10 if he was in the draft. He basically came out a year early and the Nugget have invested enough in Euro League scouts that they were one of the few teams that really had him on their radar early.
The thing that people do not realize is that the Nuggets assistant GM is a legend in Europe, they have hired some very big name scouts over there, and Connelly's brother has worked with and for several national teams over there, as well as Connelly himself having worked for the Russian national team at one point. That is how they seem to be finding these gems like Nurkic, Jokic, and Lauvergne 2 of which they did not even have highlights for when they were drafted.
That's great for youy guys, I wish Cleveland had a competent FO.. they have no idea what to do when the draft comes.

Jokic might have the most potential of anyone in Denver's young core. He certainly has the lowest floor IMO, and there's a lot of talent in that group. He does so many little things that you just don't see out of rookie big men. I'd say the only thing holding him back is his lack of athleticism, but that's probably a big reason why he's so skilled.

Nurkic projects to be the better player IMO

I think you are being sarcastic but in case you are not, I have to point out that Jokic is infinitely more skilled and talented than Gadzuric was.

Yep, he should get on a diet quickly, he has to move around way too much weight at the moment. Not a good omen when you already had a knee injury.

Nikola was name of last king of Montenegro, kinda popular name around here. Its pure coincidence so many Nikola's made it to the NBA.3 of them(Vucevic,Pekovic,Mirotic) are native of Montenegro.Jokic is Serbian though name is kinda popular on whole ex-Yugoslavian region.Funny thing is that they are all bigs

ah, thanks. That makes a lot more sense than everyone naming their sons after Santa Claus

Name Nikola is taken from greek name Nikolas (means people win or something like that) and it's a very popular name in EX-YU. Why ? Many reasons. In the past many liders (King's, emperor's, religion guys, war hero's.... and so on ) had that name so it is very popular. In Serbia, that name, is for sure in top 3 almost every year. There are at least 10 similar name's that are created from this name (both male and female).
And it's just a weird coincedence that there is so many in the NBA from this region. Pekovic, Vucevic, Mirotic, Jokic, Milutinov, Radicevic.
It's just some high profile name. Like Marc, John, Bill, James, Thomas, Andrew or Jeff in Canada, Usa etc. Or Lui or Piere in France. Or Adolf in Germany. Or Sergey in Russia. Or Diego and Hulio in Hispanic country's. Or Muhamed in Islamic country's....
Back on the topic.
Jokic has a lot of potencial. After this last game, he has higher PER that Towns (21.6 vs 21.1 that Towns has). Almost same number of win shares as Porzingis (2.8 vs 2.7) while playing far less time. And curently he is number 3 in total win shares. Towns is 1st with 3.7, Porz 2nd with 2.8 and Jokic is 3rd with 2.7 . His win shares/48 is higher than Towns with 0.169 vs 0.144 (Porz has .115).
Obviosly they are far better prospects but Jokic is very efficient and so underrated. I started watching his highlights and boxscore numbers a month ago and now I just hope Nugets start tanking and give Jokic 30 minutes/game.

Nikola is Nicholas in English, it is very popular name among Serbians, Croats and Montenegrians. Itresting it's almost wining name for basketball players. There are some euro legends like Plecas, Vujcic, Prkacin etc with name Nikola. I guess if you want your kid in NBA name him Nikola
and also there is great Nikola Tesla, greatest scientist in known history

I am about 95% sure the Nuggets are not going to tank. I think most Nuggets fans will tell you Jokic playing 30 minutes per game would actually be the opposite of tanking, even as a 20 year old rookie he is a huge positive, and some are even questioning Malone since he will not play Jokic or Nurkic more minutes.

Yea I agree with you. I'm not watching the games so I'm realy don't know that much. But watching stat's and reading some article's and comment's about him I have that feeling that he helps the team win a lot. Also his +/- numbers are great. And if Mudiay can play 30mpg (37 minutes last night with 2/8 from FT, 7to, 5pf, 4-10 FG , 3 stl, 4reb, 6as) and close games... with his FG% and TO's Jokic should too.
I just meant he should play at least 30 minutes per game now when Nurkic is out since he proved he can play and he has potencial. But I would be disappointed if Denver is officialy out of the PO and Jokic is still playing 10-25mpg and producing like a beast per minute.
How is his defence ? Bad, ok, good ? I see that he had multiple 2/3/4 stl games. Blocks are pretty meh for a big guy. Can he stay in front of his guy ?
What is his ceiling ? And what is his value in term of picks ?
Wow u guys have him locked for 4 years and with less then 1.5m $ in the 4th. That GM should get a reward just for that move alone.

His defense is more smart and positional than overpowering. He's still not that strong and doesn't have much vertical so he'll never be a Whiteside kind of player, and he's not strong enough yet to push people around ala Nurkic. But he understands where to be and how schemes work so in the long run he'll be fine on that end. A net positive regardless.

i don't know how much influence this has, but since Karnisovas was hired as an assistant GM in 2013, who is a former Lithuanian basketball player with silver and bronze Olympic medals, who was a international scout for the Rockets for 5 years, we've drafted Gobert, Jokic, traded for Nurkic at draft day, Radicevic, traded for Lauvergne at draft day, and Mudiay.

That was a different time, the Nuggets were extremely high on Mozgov and were wanting to bring him back, they were also still very high McGee, and were actually in the process of trading Koufos for Arthur (to defend the pick and roll) and the pick to get Joffrey. They were also just coming off a 57 win team, had just lost a the GM, their assistant GM, their head scout, their director of player personnel, and had fired Karl. Delusional or not the Nuggets still thought they were going to take the next step and were bringing in Shaw to fix their playoff problems. A project big that wanted to come over and was not a need was not a priority. They wanted the cash (it is the Kroenkes), they used the 2nd to pick up Green (who they wanted in Europe for a year or two) and the roster spot to make that run they were hoping for.
Reality is the front office and coaching staff were still being put in place that draft was about taking draft and stash 2nd round picks and saving money.

We didn't draft Gobert. It was part of a deal that had already been agreed to in which we were going to draft whoever Utah wanted and trade that player to them. Let's keep the story straight- credit goes to Utah.
